Tension

Postby Nyarlathotep » Fri Aug 01, 2008 1:48 am UTC

So. I have a problem. I am an extremely tense person. I spend most of my day being paranoid. This is due to a combination of factors - namely that I have generalized anxiety disorder, but also that I just tend to forget things and that makes me anxious.

As a result I carry a lot of muscle tension. Usually it's enough that I can deal with it, however... lately, my trapezius (that is, the muscles connecting my shoulders to my neck. it's right between the shoulder and the neck) have been hurting like hell. This is probably becuase my job, databasing, involves being on a computer for long hours, but even so, this is outright ridiculous. My shoulders and upper back at this point consist of nothing but knots, and hurt all the time.

Does anyone know some simple exercises to help with this? Especially things I can do at work.

Try these. Specifically, the middle one.

Stretching and self massage are the best things for you I think.

Just like to toss out my thoughts on the self massage thing

Its a good idea, but I don't like the website posted. all this be gentle nonsense. if it doesn't hurt while you're being massaged, it isn't working. a true massage should hurt like a bitch while you're getting it because that means that all your muscles are being moved around like they're supposed to be, then about 5 minutes after its done it should feel amazing.

you need to be able to distinguish the good pain from the bad pain though.
