Fartlek training got me under 5.00 for the 1 mile. Or you can become more organised and find what is limiting your running. In general, as far as casual running goes, you can probably always improve your lactate threshold. So research into lactate threshold training and applying some principles might go down well. To achieve goals like PB times, IMO, train with quality not quantity. Understand training methodology, buy a book on running.
