Graduate English Programs in Germany?

Postby Androgen » Sun Sep 06, 2009 11:00 am UTC

I'm currently living in Prague as an English teacher, but my goal is to live in Germany. I can already speak German fairly fluently and have several friends who live there, but the tough thing is finding work as a non-EU citizen. I've been thinking that I should return to school and get an MA in English or a related field, but I have zero desire to move back to the US for any duration of time. So I've been considering looking for grad programs in Germany.

I've found a couple through the DAAD web site, but not many. Does anyone here know of any such programs in German universities? I'm also trying to learn more about the process of applying and being accepted to a German school. I'm fairly certain I'll need to prove my German language capabilities through a standardized test, but have no idea where to find information on this. While I presume that most classes will be held in English, there may well be classes held in German as well, and in any event I think most German schools require proof of language ability just for general survival at the school and in the country.

The DAAD website is really the only place I know of where you can find programs such as that. I believe they also sponsor the Erasmus scholarship, which would be wonderful if you could get it. Otherwise you might need to start finding some universities (Heidelberg is a big-name one, and Freiburg is very liberal-arts oriented) on your own.

Sorry I can't be of more help. :/
