SAT Scores (because somebody had to do it)

Postby ChoclatyGoodnes » Fri Oct 23, 2009 1:57 am UTC

I saw the ACT thread and thought it only right to put up a matching SAT thread :P
Now all those of you on the coast who didn't take the ACT (or those who took both and just like their SAT scores better) can have your claim to fame.

I got:

2320 total

800 Reading
800 Writing
720 Math

Odd that I did so poorly in math. I consider it my strongest subject.

Wotthehell? It was only two components when I took it -- reading/writing and math/whatever. Max possible score was 1600 (which I didn't get).

Yeah it was recently changed. I can't think of a way to incorporate people who took it before it was out of 2400 as well as those who took it after the writing section was added. Coming up with a score that you think would have gotten for the writing section would obviously skew the statistics. So would averaging your reading and writing scores.

I believe there's already a thread about this: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=6933

That's true. However, it's an old topic (latest post was 3 months ago) and the poll on it has been closed.

1490 on the old one.

790 on math because I did something wrong with cosines, and 700 on the other part because my vocab isn't that great :(

Though I got full marks on SATII math and AP maths, so 790 was an abberation :P

I also found out in university that the more advanced maths you do then are totally different than the maths you do in first year university/high school, solving differential equations is like jumping from algebra to calculus (in terms of methods employed, not in terms of difficulty). Luckily I'm not in math.

2190 on the new scale, 1540 on the old. The Writing section hurt (7 on the essay, 69 (on a 20-80 scale) on the multiple choice).
800 Critical Reading
740 Math
650 Writing

I got about 1640. . .maybe 1840, it's been awhile. All my scores were pretty even. I think they were all in the mid-600s, might have been mid-500s.

But I took it in 7th grade, so I'm not a complete failure. 8)

Maybe just set up a proportion?

OldScore/1490=NewScore/2400

Just multiply your old score by 2400 and then divide that by 1490 (or whatever the max score was).
I assume this would work on the ACT.

The max on the old version was 1600.

However, that doesn't really work accurately, because the reason for the new scale is the introduction of an entirely new test section focusing on different skills. For instance, converting my old-scale score (1540) to the new scale yields 2310, instead of the 2190 that I actually received.

Math - 740
Critical Reading - 700
Writing - 650

I figure this was good enough. I could have done better on every section but I really didn't feel like taking it again.

Critical Reading: 800
Math: 800
Writing: 710

I curse the introduction of the writing section with my every waking breath.

I only took it for the NMSC, so I actually don't really care. But perfect scores are nice.

Interesting Side note:

SAT stands for nothing.

It used to stand for Scholastic Aptitude Test, but after it was totally proven to have ZERO ability to predicit scholastic aptitude they are not allowed to call it that any longer.

Critical Reading 800
Math 750
Writing 580

I think they just give me bad writing scores because my handwriting isn't perfect.

Only 30% of the Writing score comes from the essay. The rest comes from the multiple choice Writing section.

My verbal score got messed up the first time I took it because I spent too much time getting intrigued by the reading passage about artificial intelligence.
