Potentially an ultimate, essential step in optimizing learni

Postby Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilico » Wed Nov 02, 2011 9:03 pm UTC

I had an intriguing idea.
Since we have an evolutionary propensity towards remembering
emotionally attached things better, and since sexual images have the
highest emotional magnitude of any other stimulus possible,
1) could one utilize sexual images as the optimal mnemonic system?
This would make associations far easier to remember.
2) Could one use sexual images as a training/learning tool?
Let's say:
"Learn 10 flashcards, get 100% on a test, and then display sexual
image or pornography clip." We would make sure that pornography is
completely inaccessible from any other medium. (So as to not
undermine the obtaining of the reward from somewhere else. If we did
not lock out any other possibility, the brain would simply learn to
find the sexual image elsewhere, without the effort of learning the 10
flashcards.)
Would the brain learn the 10 flashcards quicker/deeper?
From the literature I've read, the brain assimilates emotionally
charged information a few order of magnitudes more efficiently then
not emotionally charged.
Could this improve learning speed by order of magnitudes?!
---
Due to the sensitivity of the topic, I admit that the assimilation of
this idea will be susceptible to conservative ideologies. But please
keep in mind after 1 billion years of evolutionary life, sexual images
are that which contain the most evolutionary significance, and thus
are assimilated by the brain the best.
To achieve true optimization, this could be a legitimate necessity.
I assure you, I am being completely serious in this proposal. This
could potentially increase information storage more than anything
we've previously conceived. With the huge archive of pornographic
material and sexual images on the web, this could potentially be the
ideal and dare I say optimal(?!) methodology in learning.

There must be places on the globe that are still like that. I bet it would work.

Wouldn't the emotional magnitude of sexual images continue to be reduced by continued and repeated exposure to them? When sex is more rare, clearly the images have more impact. If its something you see every day it would likely get boring very quickly.

This is fairly easy to achieve using, say, K9 web filter, or OpenDNS.

No, how about you respond in this thread to arguments made in this thread.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.
