Fables
Well if there isn't already a Fables discussion here there damn well should be. Willingham is a tough, challenging writer and the book is just brilliant.
I'm drawing a whimsical comic book in the style of the great silent filmmaker Georges Melies. http://www.georgesmeliescomic.wordpress.com

Re: Fables
I've been slowly reading them out of order, basically whichever volumes I can get my hands on in the library every so often. I wish they would branch out from Western fairy tales and go into the rich mines of African and Asian tales, but otherwise I do enjoy the many levels of meta that go into each story. Have you been reading the spin-off about Jack? What's it like, is it any good?
One problem I have: is it ever explained why some fables age and others don't, and why a lot of fables aged normally in their stories and then conveniently stayed immortal at the age they were when their popular stories ended?

Re: Fables
There are some Asian Fables as well at some point. As for the aging thing, I think it mostly has to do with the belief people have. Most people believe in a 30ish year old Snow White so that's how old she is.

Which was explained (kind of) in the 2nd trade.Zohar wrote:There are some Asian Fables as well at some point. As for the aging thing, I think it mostly has to do with the belief people have. Most people believe in a 30ish year old Snow White so that's how old she is.
I'm reading it slowly as well. Picking up trade paperbacks as I find them and have money. I won't read out of order, and I don't mind if it takes me forever to read it all (it was how I read Y the last man).

Re: Fables
"It all" will take you awhile since Willingham said he'll keep writing it as long as it keeps making him money, which will probably be a long time since it's been fairly successful pulling a more mainstream audience. I'm not a fan of the series, myself, although I'll admit that I only read an early story arc (the second, I think?).
