I regret joining this game. At least I now know that nope, playing mafia just isn't enjoyable for me any more. But I do feel that I haven't put in the minimum level of effort necessary and have thus let all of you down. I do think that MYLO is an inappropriate time to implement a 'lynch all lurkers' policy, and it feels really weird that *I'm* the lurker, otherwise I would support the policy. But reading through this thread has felt like an absolute chore and so I have just kept finding other things to do with free time.

Hopefully my lack of activity hasn't ruined the enjoyment for the rest of you.

For what it's worth, I sympathise with both of you on this one. I had trouble keeping up and actually saying something during most of the games and none of them were this long. Heck, even this one wasn't that long for me, although it might just be the longest...

So, what's next?? Did someone have something they wanted to do?

A couple of people wanted to try something with shorter deadlines - 2 or 3 days. Who would be up for that?

http://www.strawpoll.me/15062433

Look a poll!!! So sciencey.

Um, I'm not sure how many people lurk this place, so please only vote if you'd play in a game.

7 days is quite long, but I've never been able to keep up with games with fewer than 3 days. While posts tend to be shorter with shorter deadlines, they also tend to be greater in number.

My favorite is 4-5 days with 48 hour Nights.

Infinite deadline with majority lynch only is also neat. Without the deadline, people are more inclined to lynch when conversation naturally stifles, which can range anywhere between 1-5 days (avg. 3-4).

So tempted to run a ‘Lights Out’ style game right now.

From http://mafiawiki.notesmash.org/wiki/Lights_Out

Lights Out is a style of game where the Town can execute multiple times in a single game day. Typically what happens is the town must execute before the deadline, killing the player but withholding their cardflip. Each successful execution extends the deadline slightly, typically with each extension shorter than the last. When the town no-hangs by a deadline, the day ends, everyone executed is cardflipped, and night begins.
Lights Out can be a very dynamic game, but it can also give too much power to the town by allowing them to execute multiple scummy candidates all at once.

.... that sounds amazing

2-3 days feels like it would be too short unless the setup had some fairly severe anti-lurking mechanics also in place. I'd be willing to give it a try, I guess.

Check out Misnomer's Lights Out game from 2012; my first game on the fora (actually ever).
If we think there's interest, I'll put a game together and run it.

Consider this an RFI :P

Unfortunately, I've got a lot on my plate at the moment, and should probably concentrate on that. Anything with a minimum of 5-day days, I'll likely sign up as a replacement for. Anything shorter, I won't be signing up for today.

Can I assume this to mean you won't be upset if I schedule "Suzaku runs Lights Out" (provisional title, subject to change, offer not valid in the state of Wisconsin) for soon, with the likely effect of delaying WoT3?

Correct, I have no problem in other people starting things in place of any game I'll run - I don't realistically see myself having much time over the next few weeks to develop a game properly.

Far be it from me to tell you how to mod, but I would like to petition for 3 or 4 day Days, or at least some sort of thing where D1 is 5 days, D2 is 4 days, then remaining are 3 days? Is that something you'd consider?

Trying to decide whether to sign up as a player or replacement...

The speed listed in sign ups is not final. How I handle deadlines will depend exactly how I end up handling the Lights Out mechanic.
I can either have incrementally extending deadlines (per your quote above), in which case I’ll go with a shorter deadline, or a fixed (but somewhat longer) deadline with the opportunity for multiple lynches per day, but with no extensions (how Misnomer did it).
I haven’t yet decided which way I want to go.

I like the idea of it extending each time we hang someone, so if we only hang one person we get, say, a 3 day deadline, but after that we get an extra two days, then maybe one day each time someone is hanged after that?

I hope town takes advantage of the multiple hangs. I'm quite excited about it!

If, by the way, anyone would prefer to help out with modding rather than play, I'm happy to take on a comod (US or European timezone preferred).
Someone who could look over the balance and maybe help with flavour writing would be perfect.
