Dr Ug suddenly had a déjà vu. He walked to the edge of the village as the villagers chased him to his death. To make matters more confusing, a stranger with the same name as him joined the village while Dr Ug fell down the cliff.

Dr Ug is now vanilla town.

So, turns out there was a problem with not lynching maident. She just recruited Frogman to the mason group :roll:

Well, ordinarily yes. When we've got a plan that involves you winning anyway? Not such a good idea to immediately go against said plan.

I buy the zombies being absent. I'm just annoyed at the inability to say "Bite me!" and not have it mean anything.

Anyway, apologies for a few days of absence, I've been stuck in a work-eat-sleep-repeat cycle for a bit. Can someone update me on The Plan, or has maident made it everyone for themselves again?

I think we can all win as cultists-with-five-penalty-points. For today, it's probably best that we lynch maident and you try to recruit frogman tonight.

Actually, change that to "we definitely need to lynch maident today". Otherwise she'll recruit Echo, remove her from the cult, and win the game tomorrow. :roll:

If one or two players want to be replaced, that's no problem, I will just look around. However, if everyone thinks like SirGabriel it might be better to cancel the game.

Or we can fast-forward the game like this: everyone sends me their action for the following 20 days and I simulate and see what happens. Sounds way less fun than playing the game, but might be better than cancelling.

How would we manage that? I mean, let's say I send "D7 Recruit frogman and vote maident, D8 recruit maident and vote Vytron, D9 recruit Vytron and vote whoever", that presupposes that Vytron gets lynched D8 and is therefore recruitable. And that I'm still head of the cult at that point. And if someone else does find a sneaky way to dodge a penalty point somehow, or indulges in treachery, it's 20 days in before I can respond. I mean, potentially there could be a "fast-forward until... someone finds something unexpected" version but it all sounds complex.

I am in favor of canceling the game at this point. The people with less PP really would have every reason to try and tip the scales in their favor which can only lengthen the game.

Alright, so the conclusion is that these three options did not work for this game:

-Play to your current win condition: will reward bad players
-Don't play to your current win condition: will make non-town players claim their role and turn into a townie
-Penalty points for changing alignment: will cause players with penalty points to try to lengthen the game ad infinitum

Since I can't think of any other option and I do not feel like doing a second restart anyway,

the game has been cancelled.

I thank you all for playing in this 'experimental' game and I apologise for not being able to let the game come to an end normally. I hope you all had a good time anyway.

It's a nice idea, but yeah, the penalty points system is difficult to balance when the only way for most people to win is to pull the whole team onto the same side. Once you've got a few penalty points stacked up and your night power removed, you're kind of stuck for any way to win. Unless you're the alien.

Thanks for the game Lawrencelot. I think what really broke the game was players being okay with a plan where all the players "won" (i.e. having one PP less), except some player, and that that plan was supposed to last for days.

In any case, I don't know how the zombies disappeared, since at some point there ought to be 3 recruiting zombies or more, and I also don't know how patzer figured it out. If we stop players from knowing the full status of the game Deathless Mafia should be workable somehow.

And I don't mind the game going on for a long time, this is like World Heroes 2 "Tug-O-War" lifebar, where each side when hurting the others increases its own health, so it sounds epic to have a battle where town, cult and zombies try to get rid of each other, for several Game Days, but some "unstoppable" plan does break things. Looks like the plan was stoppable after all, though :mrgreen:

I thought the game was really fun! There weren't any zombies anymore because I redirected patzer to herself and maident pretty much every night, and those seemed to be the major targets. I'd be interested in a full history from Lawrencelot if that is possible!

OK, so the first bite worked but infected status was cleared by the lynch, and the second bite went to patzer because you can't bite the player being lynched - and patzer self-cured (with a little help from frogman). That really slowed down the spread of infection compared to biting maident or SirG.

Well played frogman, you had half of the human players probed on D6; if the zombies had still been active, you'd have probably won. Had Vytron bitten someone else that would probably have been an excellent sneaky victory. The only person left with any power that you didn't control was me as the cult leader.
