I really, really need to learn to make short (but not fluffy) posts almost every time I check the thread, espescially as scum in a big game where noone seems to be near my timezone. The catch-up content gets to be so much that I don't know what to resond to so I don't post at all, until the only option is to post a huge wall of text and then I genuinely don't have time to compose it.

IRL this is also why I'm one of the world's worst correspondents.

Also, this extension just saved my (admittedly very short) recent post from being destroyed. I've had people here sad that their posts get lost somehow, and this extension works on web forms and stops data being lost when the browser refreshes:

So yeah, just wanting to get another recommendation out there. :)

I suggest to use Firefox, I get power outages on a regular basis in the middle of long posts. The other day my computer shut down after I spent 6 hours writing a post due to overheating, yet, after opening Firefox again, there it was, my full message in all its glory, so I just lost the time that took the computer to restart, and nothing else.

FF rocks.

So the other day I played a couple of games of Mafia in the real world with real people. My experience here made winning both games pretty much trivial accomplishments, both as town and as scum.

Kingdom Control
Spoiler:
Well, it kind of sucks that just_me and me managed to find each other as town and still are going to lose.

But, in a normal mafia game, with two town and two scum remaining, it's a scum win, so I don't see why here would have been different. I lost us the game when I attacked Diemo :(

I also wasn't certain that just_me was town. Otherwise I'd have sent him 150 Gold before the war took place.

Great acting by mpolo and NU making me believe they were town enough to not dare to do this, it was my fears that just_me was scum which decided the game in the end.

Yeah, basically the last two years are just acting as a convoluted tiebreaker.

Sorry that you didn't know you couldn't spend gold during war phase. Always a shame when something like that affects the outcome. :?

Kingdom Control:
Spoiler:
That was, entirely, my fault.

...

No, wait, I can blame just_me too, it surprised him that all my gold went to waste as much as it surprised me. This means that he could have alerted me that if I didn't buy resources in time my gold would go to waste, but didn't so it's his fault too.

However, that's irrelevant, because:

I didn't need that gold for town to win

Before the war started just_me and me had more resources combined than NU and mpolo. We were gambling the game correctly to the chances that each other were town. We were able to plan and coordinate without NU and mpolo knowing, and without them knowing that we knew each other were town.

Yet, NU and mpolo coordinated better to ensure our defeat.

I can be happy with the loss because, if the papers were reversed, with just_me and me being scum with NU and mpolo being the remaining town, with NU having my resources and mpolo just_me's resources and me NU's resources and just_me mpolo's resources (or whatever), they'd have coordinated better and defeated us anyway.

Ergo - NU and mpolo coordinated better than Town this last war and deserve the win.

Conclusion: {just_me and me}'s mistake was trying to take out NU and mpolo in the same War, instead we should have ensured that the one of them with most resources died, and that their stuff was absorbed by just_me. Or that I didn't die so I had more resources than the remaining scum survivor. NU and mpolo's strategy was better because it ensured my death while one of them would absorb my resources to defeat the remaining townie next war. The tactics didn't matter.

I've played exactly one game of RL mafia. It was 90% new players and I got lynched D1 for the audacity of saying we need to kill someone.

Seaside:
Spoiler:
So I have no idea who to roleblock tonight. Kaz could be SK since there was only one kill, but he's helping town win, so that's a waste.
Freezeblade is most likely to be scum, but if he's not scum then he's power, so my roleblock would backfire.
Maybe a bit of meta, but j_s responding during night phase indicates he had a power or scum chat. So he's in the same boat as fb.
Wam and boomfrog are the other two on my radar, but they both received heavy suspicion during the day, so they're prolly not going to carry out the NK. I would guess they are likelier to be vanilla if they are town though, so it's a "safer" bet.

I'd prolly withhold if I knew wam and dim were both town, since that means there's less scum, so my power will likely do more harm than good.
If I roleblock a power townie I'm so bloody lynched

It's tricky because I need to block someone who only I think is scum and nobody else, but nobody fits that criteria. (criterium?)

If Bignose is scum then I'm lynched anyway, so may as well block the wagon leader too, yeah? So which of BoomFrog or Lawrencelot think they are in the clear? Prolly Lawrencelot. Plus he defended boomfrog after implicating him. I'll go with him.

Edit: I'd like to know for future how my thinking is wrong. Should I withhold entirely? I have no idea what to do with this role.

Edit2: after the game of course

Lego Mafia
Spoiler:
So, my plan with this game was to not check my role at all, as, usually, knowing my role leads me to make really poor decisions on the day about it. But I checked it anyway and I'm glad because I get the Master Builder roles which allows me to send inventions by day and build them on the night.

Oh god, so many possibilities of things to build! Let's see what I send...

Hi Snark! I'm back too.

Seaside Mafia
Spoiler:
Lets see who we've got left:

1. Suzaku - slightly scummy, I'm unsure lurking or RL issues, but very passive posting and opinions.
4. wam - scummy, feels like he's given up after being called scum
5. SDK - Still probably town, but he really should be dead by now. Obviously a bold and confident player. Which means as scum bussing a scummate out of the blue is within his MO.
6. dimochka - townie, partially because I doubt he and wam are both scum, but it's moot.
7. moody7277 - townie unless J_s/lawrenceelot is scum, then neutral
8. Yoshimitsu - town-a-lown-a-ding-dong
9. Madge - slightly townie, but needs more data
10. Freezeblade - slightly scummy, not really scum hunting
14. Lawrencelot - scummy, went along with the Bignose lynch too happily
16. UniqueScreenname - town or survivor.

Lawrencelot represented us in a game of Mafia Champions where the best mafia players from all over the internet get together to play a game.

And the most memorable games that you missed were Scooby Doo Mafia and Twitch Plays PokéMafia.

Lego Mafia:
Spoiler:
I'm going to say it here: I don't like BigNose.

I mean, in general.

When he's scum I think he's town and when he's town I think he's scum and mislynch him.

Playing with him seems like a lose-lose situation.

Once we were scumbuddies I bused him D1 and it was useless and we lost twenty dollars and my self respect.

So it's:

1. Town!BigNose - Town!Me => we mislynch each other. BAD.
1. Scum!BigNose - Town!Me => I don't lynch him. BAD.
3. Scum!BigNose - Scum!Me => I point out his scumminess, getting him lynched, but people still think I'm scum. BAD.

I don't even know what to do about it, looks like ignoring everything he says and flipping a coin to decide whether to lynch him or not would give me a better outcome...

Definitively the hardest player to read I've played with.

Kingdom Control
Spoiler:
New User was right to buy peasants and metal instead of feeding his archers IFF he values footmen more than twice as much as archers. Which on the face of it makes sense I guess because he wins if he can defend successfully for 3 more years or so, and footmen are theoretically better at defending. Except... I don't think they are. All the defender has to do to survive an attack is kill the attackers. The defender is only eliminated if there are attacking units still surviving.

So in the 1 on 1 situation they are in, had New User defended with just 64 archers, he would have ensured that he could survive just_me's maximum attack (43 soldiers and 10 officers). That left him with 117 archers to attack with. That's not enough to ensure victory, but it would be enough to wipe out all of just_me's defenses.

I think the best move for New User would have been to discard 63 archers and buy 200 crops. Then you can attack with 64 archers, defend with 10 soldiers and 54 archers, and save the extra 68 crops to use to feed your troops next year. just_me would not have any gold because all his officers would die in the war, and presumably he'd be blocked every harvest so there's no way for him to gain defenses.
