Lynch Voting:
xkcd Village is a lawless place, and the only form of justice is the old-fashioned lynch mob. Every "day" (this will be explained shortly), the town chooses a member to hang with a simple majority vote. For the more peaceful towns :? , "no lynch" is also a valid vote. After the mob has strung up the citizen, his house will be investigated overnight (it would seem reasonable to do that before the hanging, no?) and it will be announced if the town hanged a member of the mafia or an innocent townie. There are no "takebacks", once a majority vote has been reached, even for one minute, the "day" is over and the night begins.

You must bold your vote and place it on a separate line for it to my fault if I miss it and therefore do not count it in the official tally.
Example: I think Vox Imperatoris is dirty mafia scum because he said he was the cop, then later said he was the doctor. NB: That would be really stupid, don't do something like that.

Night—when everything else happens:
People who are not just regular townies (that will be just over half of you), have special powers that are used at night. The most important of these is that of the mafia, but there are also other roles.

The mafia confer through PMs at night only (this part requires the honor code, so please don't ruin the game) about whom they plan to kill; when they reach a unanimous decision, they will PM it to me and I will record it secretly. If you receive the role of a mafia member, you must try especially hard to blend in with the others and subtly place the blame elsewhere. Too little, and the lynch mob will eventually find you; try to take control of it on the first day, and the mob will start to wonder why the mafia hasn't killed you.

Rules:
1. Do not talk about the game outside this thread.
2. DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE GAME OUTSIDE THIS THREAD.
3. Please stay on topic.
4. Don't lurk through the whole game; if you need to drop out, I'll keep a running tab of players who want to be replacements.
5. Conversely, don't spam the thread with low content posts; it's very annoying, especially for the lurkers, and it makes it hard to actually analyze you.
6. If you aren't part of the game, please post in a separate, forbidden to players, thread for outside analysis.
7. Once I say that it's nighttime, do not post in the thread AT ALL.
8. If you die, don't say anything for the rest of the game except a simple, "Bah, you got me," which reveals no information.
9. You may not post verbatim or quote from your role PM. Paraphrasing is fine.
10. You may not edit your posts. This is to preempt the possibility of cheating by sending messages to other people and then editing them out.

The roles will be assigned randomly. The game will also start in the day phase to give everyone at least a day of playtime. There are no time limits yet, but I may decide to implement them if the game starts dragging on forever.

Also: For the moment, no roleclaiming.

The Citizens of the xkcidy (or xkcdia, whatever floats your boat), tired of all the murders in their hometown take a group vacation for a little "fun in the sun!"
But all is not fun as it seems. In a freak storm, their plane crash-lands on a small island.
The survivors crawl out of the wreckage and do a breif headcount. They Pilot found the pilot ripped to shreds. But there was no time for mourning. The results were the same for each count.

There were more heads than there were on the plane.
And some of them wore hats.

With a chilling fear, the survivors realized that raptors had infiltrated their ranks, looking for tasty toys.

One of the surviors stammered, "R-r-raptors! I'm getting out of here!" And scrambled towards the jungle, but was quickly intercepted by a loud "Twang-g-g" Noise, a dart now sticking out of his neck. He was dead before he hit the ground.

The Natives of the island had infiltrated the survivors, too.

But not all was lost! One of the town's doctors had been on the plane, and had thankfully survived. Even more useful, a hatmaker, who could spot the devious hats and an armed paleontologist, who could make out a raptor from up close were also on the plane.

So, the survivors, determined to weed out their infestation, built a little piece of home in the shape of a makeshift gallows.


Roles:

Tribe (Sort of Like masons.):
1 Witch Doctor
1 Recruiter
1 Tribesman

Survivors (analogous to Townies):
1 Hatmaker
1 Doctor (just leave it at Doctor, I'd think.)
1 Paleontologist
5 Survivors

Raptors (analogous to Mafia):
1 Raptor Leader
4 Raptors


TRIBE: May communicate at night via PMs. Probably pro-town, I have to clear that up with Kells. Actually, yeah, I'm going to say they're pro-town. Consists of:

Witch Doctor (with thanks to nsmjohn, its a shame he isn't playing.):
During night can "redirect" one player. Witch Doctor selects two players, the targeter and the targetee, if the targeter used a night role, the action is redirected to the targetee. Witch Doctor can just choose to roleblock the targeter instead.

Tribe Leader: Can recruit other people into the tribe. Same rules as a mason recruiter.

Tribesman: Analogous to standard mason.

SURVIVORS: Just like the town. No special rules.

Hatmaker: Just like the cop, same cop rules, just has a different name.

Doctor: The Standard Doctor. Can protect one person a night, blah blah blah. Same doctor rules.

1 shot Armed Paleontologist: When the raptors target the Paleontologist during the night, He will kill the raptor that targeted him. After using shot, becomes a normal survivor.

Survivors: Just your plain-'ol townies. Nothing special here.

RAPTORS: Have to pick a raptor that will be the killer each night.

A raptor: Just like a mafia goon. Nothing special here.

Raptor leader: Just like a godfather. Shows up innocent because he's just so darn clever.

If the doctor protects the paleontologist but the paleontologist is attacked, does a raptor still die?

If the 'tologist is attacked, he doesn't die the first time.

If the raptors target the paleontologist for the first time is a raptor guaranteed to die? Or if the doctor protects the raptor leader/some raptor might the raptor live? What happens to the paleontologist in that case?

What happens the second time the raptors target the paleontologist, does the raptor die, the paleontologist, or both?

What gives a paleontologist the ability to kill raptors? Wikipedia says they basically just identify bones and fossils and crap. Does this mean he has an ass cannon?

Can the Witch Doctor reroute Raptor kills? Does he do this by targeting the raptor leader (what if the leader is dead)? Do the raptors pick a killer each night that the Witch Doctor can than target?

If yes to the first question, can the Witch Doctor make a raptor kill a fellow raptor? The raptor leader?

If yes, is this the song sung by aqua?

Is it a remixxed version?

Wouldn't their efforts be better spent trying to fix the plane rather than kill raptors? They are very deadly afterall...

If the random raptor is protected, he will not die.
The Paleontologist's gun is one shot. If he is targeted a second time, he is dead to the max.

Yes, yes, The raptor leadership is passed down between the dinos, whoever the killer is is random, although having them pick might be a better solution. We'll asked Kells when she comes back.

Oh, by the way, that was a confirm.

Perhaps for the purposes of Armed Paleontologist-ing, the raptors can choose who makes the kill? Like in other games with roleblockers and stuff?

That is, when they choose who to kill, they tell the mod which raptor makes the kill.

Sorry just a little unclear on this. Who does the Witch Doctor have to target to reroute the kill? The Raptor leader or the random killer?

Also I do agree that in game with night choice redirection and roleblocking, it opens up more strategy if the raptors must pick a killer instead of having it be random.

I've ran recruiting masons in one round (round 4), and we did the leader can be replaced. Either can be balanced, it depends on the overall town vs mafia balance. I would say in general 5 mafia/raptors in 16 players is a tough ratio for the town so the town may need that extra help.

Unless the already existent mafia upon entering the magical feild of this island within the bermuda triangle the mafia transformed into deadly velociraptors. They probably have a french accent too.

After much consideration, I'm going to say either one of them, because realistically, it makes sense. If anyone doesn't like that rule, they can PM me or something.

No, the problem with that one is all the english power-roles are dead!! But yes, it clearly has its problems.

I guess mafia doesn't make much sense in its most basic sense. A doctor that waits outside peoples houses in case they get attacked? It is a little more plausible though.

I was responding to Silknor, actually. Overbored ninja'd me.

I think what is happening is this:
The raptors have infiltrated, and worn human clothing and the like. Their long, swishing tails have been tied up, and their claws retracted. These raptors are smart. We weren't really familiar with the town beforehand, all being paranoid, lynching psychopaths. So now there are new people, and seeing as how we landed in the bright sun, everyone is scaly. Not to mention the scratches and grazes. Not to mention the natives look a little reptilian, though they are obviously here to help us.

Also, everyone is wearing a hat to protect us from the blistering heat. And everyone knows raptors are anatomically incapable of wearing hats. So why do people keep dying. Clearly these must be replica hats, and we aren't organised enough to organise a town meeting to look underneath the hats.
