I would like this post enshrined as the "Kipper Doctrine" for future Defcon style games (of which I am sure there will be not a few).

Is there an easy way to search a topic for posts by a particular person? I've been trying for the last twenty minutes or so and can't seem to come up with anything that won't also bring up topics that contain content I shouldn't be reading.

If you want to look at all posts from a single person in a single topic select "sort by author" at the bottom of the page, just above the buttons with page numbers. The find the page number that contains his or her name.

Alternatively, you can search an author's posts for the title of the thread. But Knightshire's method is far better, especially because sometimes when searching through people's posts you can read spoilers.

Adjust the time range as necessary as the game goes on. This way you don't have to figure out which page to look at, the posts are in order, and you don't have to worry about spoilers (because of both the -canNEVER and getting all available characters).

I have yet another method that I use:

1. Take the thread identifier from the URL of the game thread and copy it to clipboard (for this thread, it's "&t=29022").
2. Go to the user page of the user you want and click the "Search user's posts" button.
3. Paste the thread identifier from the clipboard onto the end of the url and hit enter.
4. Read the results!

Here's maj's results for this thread: search.php?author_id=26741&sr=posts&t=29022

However, I'm fairly sure that I've accidentally got to a state where spoiler tags didn't work doing something similar to this in the past, which is potentially dangerous before you paste the thread identifier bit in. I think it might be if you do a search within the "user's posts" page using the box at the top left.

Is there anywhere where there are generally accepted rules for this particular mafia forum, since I have noticed a few things that are different than where I usually play.

I mean for the games themselves. For example, I saw someone edit a post, which results in a modkill usually where I play, is that ok here?

No, it is not. Accidents happen, and we tend to trust people to not cheat. It has never been a problem so we tend to be a bit more lenient, (mod dependent).

Rules for the games themselves are in the first post of this thread. Each mod also modifies them to their liking in the first post of their own game threads.

Roleclaim [rohl-kleym] IPA: /roʊl kleɪm/ Use roleclaim in a Sentence.
    - verb. To publicly state one's role. Okay guys, you are forcing me to roleclaim here: I am the cop, so don't lynch me!
    - noun. The assertion of one's role. Just because my last roleclaim was a lie does not mean this one is, Adacore.

edit: added the noun definition, as Adacore is correct that we often use it both as a verb and a noun.

You can nounify it as well, of course: I don't believe MoA's roleclaim, he always falseclaims cop.

I'm not surprised 1984 mafia was so popular- we're practically speaking newspeak already!

When a double claim happens (when 2 people claim to be the same thing) we generally lynch one of them, if they are town, we then lynch the other one. This is a very sacrificial way of doing things. Using logic is a much better way to get past this. Like seeing who is being more suspicious

I'm not sure if someone asked this already asked this, but wouldn't it be safer to lynch both of them, to be 100% safe?

Oh I know. I meant it like this.
Day 1: I vote dude A!
Day 2: I vote dude B!
Then when they're both lynched, you don't have to worry about one of them being Mafia.
(Although it'd be ironic if they were both not mafia. And stupid)

Could we modify the OP so that it reflects on some newer happenings? Things that could be done:
-Explain how to use the signups and pre-signups threads
-A more comprehensive/clear explanation of current and common types of games (especially turbos)
-Some editing for clarity

We could use Googledocs to create a new guide, then ask for Jestingrabbit to put it in the OP.

From where I come from, "Gojoe's false claim" is known as "Softclaiming", "Double claims" are known as "cc" (counter claim), "Follow the cop" known as "Uncc'ed cop", and "Mafia helping the town" as "bussing" (getting a fellow mafia lynched to gain town's trust).

And I'm new to xkcd forums; where is the discussion thread for Mafia? I might want to try hosting a game on here.

EDIT: I found it. Why isn't it stickied?

It was kind of linked to my avatar at the time. In any case, we need a logo for it. Something that is both xkcd and mafia related.

I wanted to move the wiki off of my site, so it becomes easier to move ownership, and because my host had database issues.
