Cookies are good!! :D

(also, jester is an advanced role according to mafia wiki so since this is vanilla I doubt there is one)

Aha!

The jester!

Game hasn't started yet so I'm just goofing off. :P better than voting MaJ or something else obligatory like that.

But with the number of players there are, surely there must be more than just vanilla townies, mafia, cop(s) and doctor(s). Vigilante and serial killer perhaps?

I'd guess that a good judge of some basic roles might be the "common" roles section from the flash tutorial. (I don't know if I can post a link to it though, having only 2 "real" posts.) (You can find it in the "How to play Mafia. A noobs guide ")

Godfather
Serial Killer
Mason
Vigilante

I would agree with that list. Probably anything that is on the "basic" list on the wiki:
Mafia - goon, godfather
Town - townie, cop, doctor, mason
Third-party - SK

Damnit, everyone PM me nao!!!!!11!!

Oh, and the game is close to starting. I have received 15 PM's of people confirming. I'd rather not have you confirm in the thread, because it's easier to keep a record of confirmations by PM.

Yes, I do keep a record of everything that happens. Except for silly PM's about sentient pong games.

Time for some "scenic" italics.....

The denizens of the town of xkcd awoke one morning to find their mayor and magistrate dead. Thankfully, no one knew what a magistrate was. So no one cared about him, just the mayor. He died like a wimp anyway (the Mafia suffocated him with a pillow). Oh, you didn't know the Mafia killed the mayor and magistrate? Well, that's what they did. And now the people of the town of xkcd must kill them before they kill the rest of the town.

Day 1 starts now. 31 players, 16 votes to lynch. Put all votes in bold.

Oh yeah, and the town just may have awoken to find the mayor's body parts spread out, one in each room of his house. It was quite a gruesome sight, you know. This Mafia is serious business.

You have 96 hours to lynch someone.

I'm gonna post a role list in a minute.

Ok, 4 days to lynch someone. This is my first game, so I'm probably completely wrong, but as I see it we don't have a lot of options. First day there is no information on anyone, so we can vote randomly, lynch any lurkers or vote no-lynch. This is assuming people don't make slip ups, otherwise we can grill them for answers as to their mistake. Voting no-lynch doesn't help us; it just gives the mafia a kill and us no information on anyone. Voting randomly doesn't help us either really, though it may spark discussion. So once a discussion gets going, we could look for people who aren't contributing anything, or anything worthwhile in any case. This seems like the best option to me, but I don't know much about tactics in this game.

Thoughts, people?

Well it's my first game too, so I don't have a whole lot to contribute with, but everything I have learned and deduced from other games I have read or simply thinking leads me to believe that it is in our best interest to get as much discussion, voting and unvoting going as possible (even if the final lynch is random it can be valuable to know how people reacted to votes on as many different people as possible on day one), as the most important thing we gain from day one is not the lych, but lots of text to analyze. This is even more important as the mafia have not yet talked to eachother, and as such won't have a common strategy.

As well as other circumstances this leads to that day one often later can be a good referencepoint when it comes to later trying to uncover alliances etc. One of those circumstances being that noone really have any reason to defend anyone strongly yet. Therefore it can be easy for a mafiamember to slip up if another mafia is targeted. Especially if you have been moderately active thus far, and so have to give your opinion on it, to not look suspicious.

For the same reason it would normally be beneficial for the mafia to lay quite low for the day one, without beeing inactive enough to be accused of lurking. And as such I will encourage all of us non-mafia to stay as active as possible, as this forces the mafia to stay active too, and again will give us more to use later.

SuperTD - Either first day not much happens or a ton happens. The worst idea is a speed lynch though, IMPO. At least try and have some reason for the vote. Every strategy with a grain of salt...things really depend on the group as much as individual game play. I don't know yet if it is easier to play knowing someone's standard MO or not so for me that will be an interesting thing in this game because it seems to be a lot of oldies and a lot of noobies.

My thoughts? OOTD* is playing and he always screws with my brain, I have not figured out how to figure him out...once I think I have it I get all WIFOM'y! We could just lynch him now and get it over with. :P

(jk ootd, jk)

*for the noobies...some people there is shorthand for...ootd/OOTD/OoTD is oneofthedragon...other players with longer names may have similar shorthand.

Thanks Sungura. I think that everyone who is a newbie should say so, so we can take a better guess at who made a real slip up and who just doesn't know good tactics, or said a bad idea, when we analyze comments later on.

Well, I'll start. This is my first forum mafia game, though I have played werewolves a few times IRL last year. When I say a few times, I'm talking single digit numbers. So I'm new.

I like to call OOTD Puff, as in Puff the magic dragon.

A good way to start the first day off is with random voting, which will usually lead into a good discussion. Thus I propose we Vote: NieXS

Or so all the noobies, including you, have an excuse when you do a huge scum tell? Seriously, it is pretty easy to know who has played before...or at least a lot...

Fine I'll go along. This is about my 6th game?? (I did nickrole, matrix, crazy 4, and I'm in crazy 5, this one, proscription, rookie invite, ones pyp starts I'm in that one too) and I have played some on the IRC but most of those are assassin games but a few pyp's.
I have played with (including irc): Rodan, vieto, vox, tsc, jesse, gojoe, bulbox, overboard, moody, tigion, mars, myrrh, ootd, kells, lachevre, and MaJ, pepseiblue
I have not played with: radman, neixs, _jess, ameretrifle, superTD, trumpkin, lincoln, kyle, korora, levi seabee, summit, or kleptoman

Considering I am on the newer end of the "experienced" players (a lot of the list I have played with have been for a lot longer than I have been) I'm thinking it's pretty safe to say first list has experience, second list does not.

Does that help you at all?

This is my first mafia game so I'm only guessing that it's harder to play as mafia which means that it would make sense for experienced players to have been given the mafia roles. Therefore I think we should be careful around people who have played this game before and keep our FoSs near them.

I think I am the only mod that does not randomly assign roles. So I think experienced or not, everyone has an equal chance.
