...yeahhhh.

Seriously though, don't be like that. "Everyone be quiet all the time" is not a viable town strategy, and I think you're aware of that. I don't know if you're just being petulant or if you're tired of this game or whatever, but if you're going to keep that up, at some point people (including me) are going to assume you're scum. So it would be a really sucky thing to do if you're not.

We can assume* that the snitches know the identity of all other snitches, so there is zero use in trying to appear less townie than you are.

As I understand it, the last snitch to have been recruited will have had no contact with Dr Ug at all -- i.e. will be very hard to detect. Of course, since we have two confirmed townies, at worst that means that we get that one when there are three people left. Right now is especially dangerous -- if we lynch right tonight, there is a little bit of breathing room. I'm still going to try to read b.i.o's last couple of pages before voting. (I believe deadline is still a ways away, though I do have to vote before bed tonight.)

I thought I could do this in the 15 minutes I had.

b.i.o. (From the beginning.)

Spoiler:
Confirms

Forgot this was a turbo. And a really fast turbo.

Votes for weiyaoli for lurking (while essentially lurking himself). Decides not to share his thoughts. Thinks the game is weighted toward the FBI. The only chance is reconversion or blind luck.

Disturbed that he finds himself agreeing with Lataro (who called NaR's argument wine).

Annoyed by the vote requirements. Votes for the bandwagon. For Hammer+1.

Points out that Brook has been making the same mistake over and over again. He thinks that this is more an error than malevolance, but the timing is perhaps fishy. Thinks Brook is FBI (correct) and a prime target for reconversion (check). Votes for me to keep the vote from being 1-sided.

Clarifies that he was trying to get discussion going in the setup that forces fast days/nights and high agreement totals.

Decides that EP is probably the agent (incorrect).

Votes for Dr Ug, saying that Brook had only pinged him on N3.

I hope to come back to analyze. Very lurky and there are a few possible pings here. I realized that there is really no enforcement of the deadline now, since the FBI won't recruit at night, so a no-lynch for running out of time just annoys the mod.

But I'd rather not do that, so will try to get back to analyze and vote.

Not just @mpolo but @everyone: I would very much like to have at least enough to lynch at deadline, because if town neglects voting, FBI can influence the result in the last few moments of the day.

Postby mpolo » Tue Jan 18, 2011 8:16 pm UTC

O.K. It turned out that I wasn't needed as I thought I was. Which means I can look at this before bed.

b.i.o has been consistently lurky throughout the game. This is partly because of the pace, which he didn't expect.

If he were a snitch, he would have known Dr Ug's identity, but not necessarily any others. On the other hand, his lurkiness means that he would have been unlikely to have been recruited on Day 2, at least. He could have theoretically been the first snitch, he could have been recruited after his posting picked up to a somewhat more active level, so that he was less noticeable.

The things that ping me: over-hammering. Going on about how hopeless it is for the mafia (those are both weak pings, I suppose). His vote to spread out our votes (he explains what he meant by this, though). He is quick to claim that EP is the agent. When Brook outs Dr Ug, he is very quick to vote without having Mavketl confirm the information. This seems the most egregious of the pings -- only a snitch could have known with certainty that Dr Ug was the agent and just immediately bus him.

They're all small things, but taken together, they make me quite nervous of b.i.o indeed.

The only thing is that ForAllOfThis's problems are also small things taken together. Just that he has put more time into participating.

I'm going to trust you guys to work this out and put the votes where they belong. I'm going to go with my gut feeling:

Vote: b.i.o

Hopefully I'm not wrong here.

b.i.o did ping me worse than FOAT did since the beginning, and he has contributed less, but it looks like FOAT is more obviously FBI here. Besides, a FOAT lynch resulting in FBI would confirm weiyaoli, I think.

Is there a point to the minimum to lynch at this point? I mean, a NL only resets all the votes and changes nothing. Seems kinda pointless to have enforce that minimum in this situation now that the FBI agent is gone. Unless the point is to make the game take longer.

The only 'meaning' the minimum to lynch has at this point is to make it harder or easier for FBI to steal the lynch if town doesn't care enough to actually vote.

Speaking of which, we need one more vote soonish.

Sorry guys, got caught up with RL after waiting for b.i.o. to respond and was only able to post now.

I don't think I want to vote a person who lurks, and agree that FAOT sounds scummy. All his responses right now, reread sound like some attempt to sound townish.

Vote: F.A.O.T.

So, b.i.o and mpolo have been accusing / voting / FoSing / hating each other for quite a while now. Weeks seems to have joined that fight on mpolo's side. Overall, I'm getting a better vibe from b.i.o than mpolo: wrong numbers, misrepresentation of probabilities/certainties (right after it was explained, so that's some impressively bad reading), etc.
What really helped me made up my mind, though, was yesterday. mpolo was insanely active and he already admitted that ForAllOfThis was totally scummy. He then chooses to vote for b.i.o, completely ignoring my "hey we need votes for ForAllOfThis to lynch" post, with this scummy gem:
mpolo wrote:I'm going to trust you guys to work this out and put the votes where they belong. I'm going to go with my gut feeling:

Vote: b.i.o

Hopefully I'm not wrong here.
Kindly followed by Weeks agreeing that b.i.o has been way more scummy all game, but reluctantly voting ForAllOfThis anyway. Night passes, no lynch (which by the way, Brook, if I hadn't known you were confirmed town... :P ).

Also, Weeks has this nifty bit of attempting to say bad things about Dr Ug yet defending him, and later on some banter with EP which sounds fake all around. And there seems to be a whole bunch of mutual trust between the two of them (for example here mpolo reads Weeks as townie) and that further convinces me that b.i.o is the FBI's favourite lynch target lately and Weeks and mpolo are nasty snitches.

...Ok.

I really disliked EP's shitspamming the thread with their stupid "jokes", so I tried to get them to shut up. I assumed people wouldn't listen to them, since that was pretty much what Lataro would do when revealed as scum: try to confuse the town.

I saw b.i.o as scummier mostly because he seemed to active lurk and flip a little. I thought, earlier, that mpolo was looking town. He might have been recruited somewhere along the line. It's not like we should lynch who an individual player thinks is town, but whoever you decide, or the majority, and guess what? In this game it's safer for the town to follow you than what the majority decides, because of the insane amount of scum we have.

It seems you didn't notice, but I have been assuming that you'd make good decisions without telling you. Mostly because I think you shouldn't follow scum's ideas. It was a better idea to let you reason stuff by yourself. (Of course, I now fail because weiyaoli helped you see the flaws in your logic.)

Also, uh...how does that vote come out as defending Dr Ug? He made a point. It was good. He added fluff and stupidity. His overall post was bad. I don't see how that reads as a defense.

Off-topic:
Spoiler:
If you want another reason for my lack of activity here: I've been bored as fuck in this game, what with being almost completely powerless, even when voting. So there you have it. Sorry MoA.

I realize this could be distancing, but I think I tend to trust bio a lot more than I did before mpolo voted for him.

Taking myself out because clearly I trust myself and the people who are definitely town.

We still have 2 FBI out there. I kind of trust bio, which leaves the following.

4. Lataro
8. Mieulium
9. cycoden
16. Weeks

Since it's currently 6/2, I think the mafia has pretty much won since Mavketl and Brooklynxman are definitely town and it doesn't really matter who we lynch today.

I just realized how confusing it was to read town and mafia and have it mean the same thing. Would have been more confusing if there had been an actual town to refer to as well.

Saying that, I think Weeks has been scummy:
These banter posts which I pointed out before:

Derp.

How do they stop E_P from talking? It's just you not actually contributing and active lurking. When I read you wrote them to stop EP from talking, I would have expected anything other than that which EP probably easily ignored. Also the buddy-buddy "oh hey look you're scummy for voting for weeks therefore weeks (even though I admit he is scummy for dallying about voting for Dr Ug) should be ignored" from FAOT was rather suspicious.

Vote: Weeks

I'm willing to give lataro the benefit of the doubt for now; especially as his behaviour the past few days fit exactly with his behaviour throughout the game, I'm therefore more convinced that he just feels that he has to vote with the biggest bandwagon at the time or on the advice of the GF.

In any case, I feel that cycoden and mieulium are probably more to be trusted than Weeks.
And you thought I was crazy...

I said I TRIED, motherfucker. I can't believe you're hanging on to that to accuse me.

Why FOAT decided to lay suspicion on me I'm still confused about, but take that as whatever the fuck you want.

Except for apart from those posts, you did absolutely nothing that day.

Spoiler:
This:

You basically can't base any strategy on what EP says.

Your post is insta-scummy.

And this:

We lynch EP then.

It's quite a no-brainer. Of course, we still need Mav's green light.

Were your only posts of content that day. And they are very very short. I'm not accusing you of failing to shut EP up (Though you definitely did fail as well as not stopping once you realized you did fail) but doing nothing that day, in other words active lurking, on a critical day as N5 was.

Except for you know, he was the one casually dismissing your case, not actually laying the blame on you. And surely you're not arguing that he was trying to set you up by glossing over if you were scummy or not?

So, you don't think this was content? Like, how many lines do I have to type to get my point across and look like I'm posting substance? 4? 10?

...I was making a point (which I already stated) that analyzing EP's posts that day would be futile. I thought it was clear that that was the case, yet you went and posted that anyway. It didn't look like the sane thing to do.

I wouldn't call it active lurking, but I did post little.

Except for you know, he was the one casually dismissing your case
And thus making me look bad. He was defending me when I wasn't defending myself.

Surely you can see that this is a viable argument?

Okay I might have been exaggerating a little about how you posted no content, but as you can see as you quoted the relevant section later, I did point out the posts of content which you did post. And as you admitted, it was drastically less in comparison to your jokey ones which was the point I was trying to make. Those two short posts were the only content posts you posted during that night.
And you thought I was crazy...

I guess "give them a chance to talk before there is the follow-the-GF excuse" didn't really work. So yeah, to avoid another no-lynch, everyone feel free to bandwagon on this.

Vote: Weeks
