What happens if there is a three-or-more-way tie?

Random selection. Hypothetical example: if wam has the most votes, and 3 other players tie for second, then 1 of those 3 players will be chosen at random to face wam in the pit.

can the tiebreaker ability win in a tie like that?

Yes, the tiebreaker role would secretly be excluded from the random selection.

If alek comes up scum im calling a ahammel alek scum team.

I was going to unvote and vote ahammel here but I feel it would be largely symbolic and the votes are rather delicatly poised.

sorry for being quiet, but tomorrow is my birthday, and I would rather not fail the permit test, I would suggest that the blacksmith and priest withhold their actions, so we can figure out the armor of the survivor out of the people we suspect to be scum.

As the scummiest thing I have seen was that thing about asking us to send in a person who is clearly a townie so the blacksmith and priest know who to target, where as I believe they should withhold their powers, so we can figure out the armor of the scummy person we send in who survives.

I kind of just am annoyed that the three non-self defense votes on me are Angua for having misunderstood what I said, and the two relatively new players for "lurking", which seems hypocritical coming from rosewinsall.

Gladiator Pit Mafia - Pit 1: Wam vs. Matt

Postby Adam H » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:09 pm UTC

End of Day 1

Votals:
wam - 4 (ahammel, Angua, UniqueScreenname, Rosewinsall)
Matt - 4 (Angua, Rosewinsall, Alekusandorosu, wam)
Alekusandorosu - 4 (wam, UniqueScreenname, matt96, matt96)
Rosewinsall - 1 (ahammel)

A tie, eh? The gods of fate will have to settle this.
…………….
WAM! MATT! Your numbers have been called. Prepare yourself for battle!

Wam and Matt need PM me their choice of their weapon. The Priest and Blacksmith must also use their ability at this time or PM me saying they want to withhold it. The Pit phase will end and night will begin as soon as I get all actions in. Deadline to get actions in is 48 hours from this post.

All players can still talk during the pit phase. (Cheer for your favorite combatant or whatnot. :) )

Bring it on!!!

Im not sure how that would help really, as all roles can be scum or town. Unless your suggesting one of us should throw this if we think the others a power town role but I don't think thats a good idea anyway.

End of Pit 1

Both players use Swords.

The gong sounds, the crowd cheers, and the combatants unsheathe their swords and circle each other, looking for an opening. Long story short, Wam cuts Matt up into little pieces.

Matt96 is dead. He was an Independent Armor Cop, his goal was to kill a scum player in the Pit. He wore LEATHER armor.

Wam survives.

Splendid, just splendid! Congratulations to our champion, Wam! Now rest up for your big day tomorrow. Because as you all know, the fun is just beginning…

Night time! The three remaining cops need to send me their investigation targets. Deadline in 24 hours (unless I’m feeling lenient). No talking please (scum can PM).

End of Night 1

You feel a startling lurch in the pit of your stomach… suddenly you find yourself in a terrifying dark place, filled with cackling monsters and strange low brassy music. What is going on????????

…A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away:

Hahahahahahaha! Jabba the Hutt wishes you to regale him and his distinguished guests. With your DEATHS! Hahahahahaha!

SILENCE!!

Now, regale! Regale, dammit!

It's now Day 2.

Updated probabilities:
Code: Select all
[alex@gottfried ~]$ ./pit_mafia.py 100000 2 4
two_town :  0.40068
one_each :  0.53324
two_scum :  0.06608

We should definitely think twice about pitting Wam again, as the result proves that he wasn't wearing one particular set of armor (I won't say which one, just to make scum work to figure it out). An incriminating cop result on him would probably be worth the claim, though.

I'm confused - are you for, or against, pitting wam again? The highest probability there is that we got one of each, assuming that we're counting matt as town (or, more accurately, NOTscum) for the purposes of calculations.

I'm not really sure how we can extrapolate anything about wam's armour given that they were both using swords. Also, as wam will have been in the pit before, unless it's the tiebreaker in the pit with them, they will win in the event of another tie.

I guess it's possible they could have had the same armor and the match was decided by the blacksmith and priest. Hmm, it's a tricky situation, but I'm not comfortable with not putting in suspected scum just because they might win. If we never put them in for that reason and they are scum, they will end up winning. Also, the numbers for getting two scum in the pit go up if you factor in good scumdar and real scumtells. This isn't as hopeless as it may appear. I'm gonna hope I got it right yesterday.

No, no, you weren't...but ahammel was. I just realized he said not to put in wam, but didn't give a real reason. If anything, knowing his armor would make it more likely he'll be killed if we put him in, not less. Or was that your reason for not wanting him in, ahammel? Also, he asked cops to claim, when the sanity of cops in the game is completely impossible to predict. There aren't many town benefits to that, as a scum result could easily be countered with, "You are probably insane." Also, immediate NK without a doctor.

Neither, at this point. Just saying that, if we pit him, he'll lose. Pitting him is equivalent to a lynch in regular mafia, so we should ratchet up our vote threshhold accordingly.

This was precisely my point, yes.

No point in having cops if they don't claim at some point. I would say an incriminating result against a player who has drawn some attention would be a reasonable time to do it. You evidently disagree, so I put the question to you: under what circumstances should our cops claim?

Given that they both used the same weapon, for all we know the result was due to random chance, and they were both wearing the same armour. Or it came down to the priest, or the blacksmith, or both, or the tiebreaker. Or it could be due to the armour that wam was wearing.
