FTFY. For future reference, just take out "thumb|" from the file tag. The thumbnail option allows a caption, but also insists on adding the "Added" caption.

Thanks for adding the originals!

You Ninja'd me on the wiki. Went and removed the thumbs and clicked publish and said someone else has changed it already!

BlitzGirl wrote:Well, they walk pretty darn slow, so that's one sluggish river.

I'm a bit disappointed¹ that nobody has calculated the estimated discharge of the river yet, based on an estimate of the width of the river and Megan's assumptions.

Edit:
¹: translation: I'm too lazy to, so somebody please do it for me.

Okay, okay, I'll do it myself. Slackers...
Apologies for the lack of What-If-style doodles.

Based on frame 1025,
Spoiler:
and assuming Cueball is of average height (1.75m), the river is about 28m wide.
If we follow Megan's assumptions in frame 1049,
Spoiler:
and assume the average depth of the river is also 28m (which seems way too deep) and the water flows with a speed of 1 m/s, a pretty typical walking speed, the total discharge outflow¹ is about 28×28×1 = 784 m³/s. That's not too bad, that's 0.36% of the Amazon's outflow. (The river. It's 871 times that of the .com.)

Now how fast does that fill the sea? Well, that depends on the sea. Assuming it's a ‘proper’ sea, and is connected to the oceans, it'll have to raise the level of the total of ocean surface: 360,000,000 km². It wil do so at 784 / (1,000²×360,000,000) ≈ 0.000,000,000,002 m/s; or 2 pm/s.
That's about 6 mm/century, not quite enough to explain the sea rise we've been watching over the past kilonewpix.

But perhaps it's not a real sea. The Dead Sea (which isn't one, neither alive nor dead) has been suggested a few times, and that might be a good candidate. Its total area is about 810 km², so it would rise at 784 / (1,000²×810) ≈ 0.000,001 m/s; or 1 nm/s. This is about 1.3 m/year. Certainly noticeable in the long term, but not enough to explain the OTC's sea rise – not even if we assume that Outside time == Inside time. (In the time the OTC has started, the sea level would have risen by 10cm, and it's obviously much more.)
Of course, we haven't even considered evaporation, which I'm sure is much, much higher than that, especially at the Dead Sea.

I'll just test out my attempt at an avatar here. I hope it does not offend anyone.

Way back many pages ago I asked:

How difficult would it be to add simple colorization to the image? That is, the water is blue, the sand is tan, and the pillars are a brown wood? Could it be scripted?

I am curious as to what is water and what is sand.

Remember htom searched a quote from Cheyenne Social Club and this thread was the third link (way back on page 460 -?- 470 -?-)

Opiboble wrote:That way people could read the blog really quick if they don't have time to read the 30+ pages that were made over the weekend or something.

Phew, finally caught up again the the first Time in 48 TimeFrames. I don't really get the people who complain that they get behind at the weekend; I have plenty of Time at the weekend, it's midweek that I find myself so far behind after coma and work that by the Time I catch up, it's Time to coma again. Do none of you have jobs or anything? (I realise the OTC is more important, but still.)

Anyway, here's the first part0.5, of this evening's barbecue sauce1. I started out 18 pages behind, but I will have read more than that due to people posting while I read (as BlitzGirl must know only too well).

I don't think I've seen the vicey-versa2 case much. But use of i.e. where there should be e.g. is very much a pet peeve. Also the use of I.E. where there should be Firefox.

Yes, though I hope to be moving closer to Seattle in a month or two

Doesn't the OTT kind of fulfill the function of a group blog? Though it is a fun idea, Opiboble!

I had similarly thought that we could add a forum to the wiki ... the recursive possibilities are endless!

Die heretic! There is no "refresh." Lord Randall has put a Javascript that pushes each new frame to the followers of the One True Comic. Besides, your post is fail on so many other levels (ads? pft!). The sea is big, the river is small.

Is that our Blitzgirl???

Nope.

1. I don't register for news sites just to post comments
2. Heretics should not die (kinda harsh) but rather be covered in chocolate and licorice, as per the Inquisitor's instructions
3. I don't think I have ever used the phrase "is fail" (*English-major cringe*)
4. I certainly have never used the word "pft" before (How is that even pronounced?)
5. A true Knight Temporal would know that the correct order of our battle cry is first, "The River is Small!" and second, "The Sea is Big!" (not the reverse)
6. I would have capitalized both River and Sea, as is my custom
7. I would not burden Helper by conjoining myself to him, as he already appears to have a second personality keeping him company
8. And I always, always CamelCase my name like so: BlitzGirl (although I don't mind if others forget)

Can I please be unsuspended now?
(Unless the suspension was for something else, of course.)

Hmm, the use of "Pft" is more like Buffygirl's style, IIRC, although I think she has a tendency to use more than 1 f.
Edit: I think her grammar also tends to reach a higher standard than "your post is fail".

### Re: 1190: "Time"

(Beware - I've been updating the YouTube version of the playlist...)

In the absence of a bridge (over troubled water - Simon and Garfunkel), they'll need a boat - either to go Sailing (Rod Stewart), or they could Row, Row, Row [their] Boat Gently Down The Stream (traditional), and [Cueball] Row The Boat Ashore (traditional).

If they misjudge the tide, they might Sail Away! Sail Away! Sail Away! (Enya - Orinoco Flow) - maybe they'll see others Sailing By (Ronald Binge), or land on a Desert Island (Discs - aka By The Sleepy Lagoon - Eric Coates). They'll no doubt wish to Speed Bonnie Boat (traditional - Skye Boat Song), but given their earlier discussion about their water bottle they're unlikely to be Drunken Sailors (traditional).

I mentioned Sailing By above - UK readers will probably know it as the Shipping Forecast music - broadcast every night at 00:45 GMT for about five minutes before the Shipping Forecast itself begins (it was deliberately chosen to be repetitive and easily expandable or contractible to fill the slot, to give a chance for sailors to tune in. Yes, they have electronic gizmos nowadays to do that, but the Shipping Forecast is still popular and has a cult following).

The version usually heard is an instrumental, but Ronald Binge also apparently wrote some lyrics for it. They're so unknown there have been at least two alternate sets of fan-made lyrics.

If you'd like to hear the full 15 minute slot, try this link (or this link without Sailing By) - you may find this map handy if you want to decipher where they're talking about...

Spoiler:
edfel wrote:After more than 20k posts, one could think we could be closer to understanding what is really going on in this comic (best way to guess at what it is we are waiting for). As far as I've seen by lurking around here, there are lots of scattered theories which are not always diverging. Blitzgirl and other blitzers might be the ones remembering best what's been said.

So, I'd like to know y'all ideas about this and that, just to see if we are somewhere near a consensus

First thing first:
1) Where are M&C ?
a- some fantasy world, nothing like anything we know
b- some fantasy world with lots of similarities with earth (but still, no wind, etc.) Somehow like 1110's...
c- earth (nowadays), that would explain the Ikea (see 4)
d- earth, in the past -> but then, when in the past.
e- earth, in the future -> so what happened in between so that some rivers "have not yet reached the sea"
f- other

2) What have they done all the time before being on the beach?
a- nothing, they just popped into existence. With the knowledge of what a castle should look like, and how to build a trebuchet.
b- they had a normal life, they know what a castle looks like but they happen to have [originally] no idea how many rivers there are
c- they had an almost normal life, but lost memories somehow
d- other

3) How many people in this world?
a- like earth: lots of them, we just don't see them
b- just a few (M&C, LaPetite, and presumably some others....)
c- other

3) Where do they take their supplies from ? Did they pay for all this ?
a- Ikea or similar. They just parked their car out of frame, and paid by credit cards.
b- the supplies just happened to lay there somewhere around
c- they manufactured everything from scratch
b- other

And other fundamental questions :
4) Are there cats where they are? (At least there are hats)
5) Will they ever meet Santa Claus?
6) What question should we ask to understand ?

Another important question: why were they building a sand castle, and where did they go when they were leaving?
They seem to be in the middle of an infinite beach (reminiscent of Bientôt L'été) with rivers and a sea, so what could they have been doing out of frame?

I wasn't sure who was all still trekking, since I passed various signposts on my way here. (Kryton, Vytron, and one or two others.) But I stand corrected.
...which is why subsequent successful Blitzers will acquire the title "BlitzGirl the Next", rather than specific numbers.

A successful Blitz is awesome, and One True Path gets longer as Time goes on, so unlike most sequels, the title "BlitzGirl the Next" increases in awesomeness as (the undeclared) n increases.

Jose

Well, I kind of did a Blitz, except without a forum account. (The account was the prize to myself for finishing.)

Besides, I'm a dude, so I can't be a BlitzGirl.... Maybe just BlitzSel?

I'm a dude too. Just roll with it, it's a title of great honor. (Think of it almost as being the descendant of a great warrior. Wouldn't matter if the warrior is a guy or a girl, I would think you would receive their title when you did some awesomeamazing deed worthy of it.)

Anyone else read the Artemis Fowl books?
And one more thing. About my name - Artemis BlitzGirl - you were right. In London, it is generally a female name, after the Greek goddess of archery Troubadour of Time. But every now and then a male comes along with such a talent for hunting Waiting for It that he earns the right to use the name. I am that male. Artemis the hunter BlitzGirl the second. I hunted you caught up.

They seem to be in the middle of an infinite beach (reminiscent of Bientôt L'été) with rivers and a sea, so what could they have been doing out of frame?

Hmmm. Boy. Girl. (Mostly) deserted beach. I wonder...

Not really surprised, the Google bot seems to always be in the list of online users, think it's hooked just like the rest of us.

I mean. We don't have any sense of depth beyond the beach, so the world very possibly continues away from the sea, leaving plenty else to do.

I think that from now on, instead of saying "i.e.", I'm going to say "firefox". Of course, this will be hard, since I rarely actually say "i.e.". And I really should say "seamonkey" instead anyway.

Jose

Great, but you still have to be careful; firefox, the usage in this sentence would really peeve some of us.

Oooh lots of dialogue while I coma'd.
The slow and possibly broken river cannot possibly be the One True Riversmall, since no power in the 'verse can stop her.

### Re: 1190: "Time"

It took all day, but I made it to the Present! this was my longest mini blitz yet, as Outsiders reckon Time. I prefer not to formulate many theories, but rather to Wait like an empty vessel, so I have no answers for the questions posed.

I also want to add that the dialogue, sparse as it us, is unnaturally exciting. What happens now!?!?
I would like to request that anyone currently doing whatever and posting a large (or even medium) number/volume of responses in a singe post should
Spoiler:
spoiler them.
Thank you.

Yep, me too... I was reading a post and suddenly I saw his avatar change to one with a hat... My first thought was "What the... How... How did buffygirl do that in realtime??"
It took me a while to realize it was an animated GIF.

Ooo animated GIF is a great Idea! I've just been updating my avatar every 10 seconds. Man I think I'm getting RSI now though!

Yeah I lied it was always an animated GIF

I'm ashamed to admit that at the time I've been thinking about AJAX, phpBB, buffygirl and her powers until I realized it was just an ol' fashioned GIF.

From the One True Font?

One True Forum. duh.

You obviously missed the entire .otf extension discussion about 10-20 newpages back. I knew what you were trying to say, I was just making a reference joke. And it's the OTT (One True Thread)

Yes, as mentioned, I skipped about 30 pages.

And I meant OTF, because I was behind on the entire forum, let alone the OTT. Stupid outside stuff getting in the way of the OTT...

Heresy! There is no rest of the forum, only this thread.

The rest of the forum is small...

The OTT is big!
