Yes. We've evolved from quote-walls to blitz-walls. Please do try to keep up with our maturation process...

Maturation process? We're...maturing? There's a lot of stuff going on this thread, but I never guessed that was one of them.

Well we better put a stop to that maturing right now:
Boobies. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

But... that wasn't your n-hundredth post.

Your next post will be one of yours, though. So you'll have a chance soon enough.

Wait, I cant say "Boobies" unless I am on a n-hundredth post??? That is a dumb rule!

Well, you can say it on other-numbered posts, but it's only justified on an n-hundredth post.

But how are we going to prevent maturity running rampant?!?! At this rate I am going to get on after coma tomorrow and everyone one is going to be saying "Good day sir, want some tea? How about a crumpet?"

The maturation process isn't because of stuff going on in the thread, but stuff going off in the thread :P

Wow, awesome graph thingy! And I found myself on it, yay!

So, we're now past 1190 newpix. Awesome. When will the number of newpix exceed the number of Other Comics? Not long I imagine.

What's wrong with boobies? They seem to be nice enough birds. Particularly when they're just hatched. (And of course a booby hatch is the right place for most of us!)

Hmmm... including the image directly from the source caused the message to be denied as spam, and so did including its URL, with or without a URL ... /URL tagging. Is wikipedia blacklisted or something? Or am I too much of a n00b to be allowed to use the four letters aitch-tee-tee-pee? I'd normally not do this without citing the source...

OK, sorry to interrupt the boobie-fest1 but I want to keep you abreast2 of something I though about this evening as I was in the Outside:

There's another reason why this graph3 is so awesome? Because it clearly illustrates that what's taking place here in the OTT is communication, conversation, and interaction. The reason there are so many quote links is because we're quoting each other to exchange thoughts and comments. This isn't a thread of monologues, where isolated people pontificate and throw self-important opinions out to other people wrapped up in themselves, and where the only interaction is debate, argument, and flame war.

True, much of our conversation and communication is irreverent and joking, but we're all playing off each other, like jazz musicians improvising off each other's riffs4.

I think that's very cool.

Now I return you to your regularly-scheduled titillating5 discussion.6

Well, that's partially due to the nature of the forum thread, I think. This one specifically, that is. Many threads, you don't need to quote because its slow enough that you'll be right after the person you're talking to/about/with. This one, it's fast moving enough that your post will probably be offset, and also a lot of times you need to target specific information in the (usually) long and thoughtful posts. Which is awesome, as you say, because it means not only are we having specific discussion but we're having (probably) meaningful specific discussion.

Looks like Cueball is getting tired. He keeps falling back, catches up a little, then falls back again.
Will he refuse to go any further, any time soon?

uh oh. judging from the latest newpix, that might have just happened.

They've been drinking (I thought) from a common source, although one of the containers might be contaminated.

As far as Cueball giving up to Megan, umm, guy gives up walking contest to girl? That is a bizarre universe.

Some of us are even learning stuff from the digressions (HAL's "Walter J. Ong" ong most recently). Sciscitor, that is a most impressive graph, with both versions being beauts.

He might be pausing to take a better look at something, in this area they've never been in that could happen. We're only being shown the important parts of this journey, I believe, in this shadow puppet play.
Besides they could be steadily climbing. I know they're going up and down rises, but they might not be coming down to the same elevation (go up 5q, down 3q; up 5q more, down 2q (example) means they've gained a net 5q in elevation)

They've actually been drinking from the same container, ever since Cueball dropped his in the river.

And then there are 3 AVI files and 7 jpg files that go into the movie. The AVI's are ~200 MB each.

Indeed. If anyone's got ideas to try so we avoid the panic, and less-awesomeness next time, I'm open to suggestions.

I do have to share what I heard while I was outside. I had on Marketplace on NPR and they did a segment on the themes used for conference rooms. (Apparently, Facebook uses disasters, so one of theirs is "Subprime Mortgages.") Marketplace Money is asking for suggestions for new names for their conference rooms. Currently, they are named "Big" and "Small." Should we all go suggest "Sea" and "River"?

The latter. I don't know the details, but you need five posts before you can do cool stuff. It's a spam protection thing, although the fact that you could post an image kinda defeats (some of) the purpose, no?

Kieryn wrote:Quick tip for those NP with annoyingly large quote blocks...

Enter in your browser's JS console:

Code: Select all

var bqList = document.getElementsByTagName('blockquote'); for (var i = 0; i < bqList.length; i++) { bqList[i].parentNode.removeChild(bqList[i]); }

That's not nice. Just removing all blockquotes? I don't get it. Why not create another spoiler around it all even though the forum doesn't want us to do that.

Update:
Okay, I just spent way too long doing just that. This can be used as a bookmarklet, or right in the address bar of the browser:

Code: Select all

javascript:(function(){var%20table=!!document.getElementsByTagName('table').length,longPost=table?document.getElementsByClassName('tablebg'):document.getElementsByClassName('content');for(var%20i=table?2:0,pi;i<longPost.length-(table?3:0);i++){if(!table||longPost[i].getElementsByTagName('table')[2]&&longPost[i].getElementsByTagName('table')[2].getElementsByTagName('div')[0]){pi=table?longPost[i].getElementsByTagName('table')[2].getElementsByTagName('div')[0]:longPost[i];if(pi.scrollHeight>window.innerHeight*1.5){pi.innerHTML='<div%20style="margin:5px%2020px%2020px;"><div%20class="quotetitle"><b>Spoilered%20For%20Length:%20</b><input%20value="Show"%20style="width:45px;font-size:10px;margin:0px;padding:0px;"%20onclick="if(this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName(\'div\')[1].getElementsByTagName(\'div\')[0].style.display!=\'\'){this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName(\'div\')[1].getElementsByTagName(\'div\')[0].style.display=\'\';this.innerText=\'\';this.value=\'Hide\';}else{this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName(\'div\')[1].getElementsByTagName(\'div\')[0].style.display=\'none\';this.innerText=\'\';this.value=\'Show\';}"%20type="button"></div><div%20class="quotecontent"><div%20style="display:none;">'+pi.innerHTML+'</div></div></div>';};};};})();

It adds a spoiler around the content when it exceeds your browser height by 1.5x. So, yes, spoilers inside spoilers totally work.
If there is a problem, let me know what error (in the console) and what browser and forum theme.

Well, I'll have to admit that though I had come across interrobangs before, I was only able to remember it because the latest othercomic prompted me to look up what it was.
Also, are we really this quiet or is everyone waiting for me to post so that I don't get to be Vatican Milliner's Perfect Customer again?
