I guess the various viewers need a box beside the pix to show what the tooltip text was, so you can tell when it changed?

I'll ask again: who are the alt-texts directed to? If Cuegan, then "Wait for it" doesn't seem to make sense. If us, then "RUN" doesn't make sense. (Or else we're all missing something vitally important... gulp... I hope the next post doesn't conclude with "And thus ends Outside"!)

I've been checking for it because of all the general worry about Time ending. I figured it would change to "don't wait for it" or something when it was all over.

By the way, I'm keeping multiple windows open just in case Randall decides to do another "live action" shot.

also, the most recent time, the Alt-text changed a minute or two before the newpix.

EDIT: I asked a friend who speaks Arabic and French about beanish, he had no clue.

I'd say it's just GLR adding a new dimension to the story, rather than an ending

We've apparently reached this stage:

When as a child I laughed and wept, time crept.
When as a youth I waxed more bold, time strolled.
When I became a full-grown man, time RAN.
When older still I daily grew, time FLEW.
Soon I shall find, in passing on, time gone.
O Christ! wilt Thou have saved me then? Amen.

Postby Eternal Density » Fri Jul 19, 2013 8:51 pm UTC

But can lightning run on ice?

ETA song by David Meece.
Appropriately named Run
Sinister shadows veil a dark, chaotic stage
Ominous thunder erupts in hate and rage
Desolate sidewalks cast a fear upon the wind
Evil awakens in the hearts of hopeless men
In times like these I cannot walk
No, I must...

CHORUS:

Run, oh run
Through the blood-red moon to the breaking sun
Oh run, run
Through the mouth of death to the Risen One
Oh run, run

Tremors of helplessness rumble in my chest
The mirror of midnight reveals my aging flesh
Time is like water wearing down a brittle stone
Leaving a mystery that is known by God alone
To Him I go
I cannot walk-no I must...
(chorus)

charlie_grumbles wrote:The rise of the water would possibly be gentle, but relentless. Think of a tidal bore that is 30 feet high, but one day's journey (for the water) wide. Not a few minutes, but several hours. The onrush at the mouth has spread out a hundred miles (??) by the time it reaches them.

keithl makes a great point about seismic effects.

The inflow will be gentle at first, as the opening erodes, then huge, then more gentle as the surface area increases and the difference in levels decreases. I think the Librarian (yes, randalldammit, Librarian), believes we are at the max flow period, say 10-20 meters per day of increase in depth. More if she is right about a "few days" to fill.

Thanks for again being a voice of common sense. People have been writing about a tidal wave as if the Forty lived just a few miles from Gibraltar, when in fact the water will have to travel most of a thousand miles to reach them. Furthermore, it's going to travel in a well-established channel only slightly north of east until it reaches "their" sea, where it will have to make a nearly ninety-degree turn to the north to reach their home. The current is going to spend a great deal of its momentum against Sardinia, and a great deal more will be lost to friction and turbulence crossing their sea; the 500-klick wavefront reaching Megball's beach is going to be much calmer, like a very rapid tide. Look again at the map that capnbuckle linked to:

Uh, guys, have you noticed the javascript?

No, seriously:

Code: Select all

<script type="text/javascript" src="/s/df5557.js"></script>

I'm pretty sure that's a different filename than before. Something to do with changing alt-text, I assume?

Sorry for the Doctor Who mini-thread, but GLR said "run," so... what would The Doctor do?

Cueball: Wait a minute.. you said that when you "discovered" the sea was rising you tried to shore it up, but failed.

Rosetta: Yes, we did, but -

Cueball: and that the sea would fill in a matter of days.

Rosetta: Yes, it will. But what -

Cueball: So, HOW did you happen to be there, RIGHT WHEN IT STARTED????

(dialogue skipped)

Cueball: And so it's your responsibility! You HAVE to help us help them!
Remember waiting a half hour for one darkening pixel? Pepperidge Farms remembers...
Note To Blitzers:It is advisable NOT to go past page 1130 until you've seen up to frame 2900 (Geekwagon Numbering). A lot is happening, and really, you do not want to skip ahead at that point.

I haven't seen any mention of the seismic implications of the added weight of water; good call! That's potentially a disastrously important point.

As for the Hugo: I already suggested (about 1200np ago) that Time might qualify in the "Best Graphic Story" category, the one Girl Genius kept winning. All we need is one OTTer who is a member of Worldcon.

They're running. I'm so confused because I thought she told Cuegan that it was far too late to save their family and they'd have to say their goodbyes from here. So why is she telling them to run again? If it's because a tidal wave is coming for their castle, why isn't she running as well?

WHAT IN THE GREAT RANDALL IS GOING ON?

Yes! Go! Go, Megball! Rescue your people, or die in the attempt! (i hope it's not the latter but i'm afraid it will be)

And that's not exactly a curtain.

My pre-coma prediction: A few decapix of Cuegan running until they reach the sea with the baobabs halfway under water.
Then Megan will whisper "no". ;(

They got their bags pretty quick too. They'll get to the water's edge and realize they are too late, but then it will flash to LaPetite leading the Cueganites to safety.

Hairdo isn't telling them to run, they just looked at each other for that "..." phrase and it must have passed as a look between them.
