Hi again. Remember that there is a comic here.

The Cuganites (dare I say Megballers?) seem to have settled on poling the raft. Flags seem to be frisky. The bucket has appeared. LaPetite has taken a seat of prominence.

I'm not certain that they dismantled the yurt. They may have just moved upstream away from it. The boxy structure on the ground at the right wasn't there when the yurt poles were at that spot.

They have an egalitarian society, I infer, and men and women pitch in on all tasks.

ETA. Oh dear, the pope said Megballers. Decree: everyone erase that thought from your mind.

Bloody hell. I let real world distract me from the OTT for a few days, then spend a few more days looking for the time to catch up, prevaricate for ages knowing that the longer I wait, the longer it will take to catch up, and suddenly here I am, 529 pages behind. I've given up; I'm no BlitzGirl (is she still around?) I will go back a few pages, though, and try and work out what the heck you're all going on about. I might have to spend some time in the Wiki - you are keeping it going, I hope!

In the meantime, and partly to explain one of the distractions, might I request anybody with a spare 2 minutes 20 seconds to spare, go here and watch my darling daughter in her first lead role in a film, and if you like it, and if you've got Twitter, click the Tweet button underneath to vote for the film.

OK. Now to catch up on the comic itself....

Welcome back, it's been a while! That was a very cute film, congrats to you and your daughter

I think you're correct Charlie. I think they are moving away past the partially dissembled yurt. The poles should work well enough for directional maneuvering, since they should be riding the leading edge of the rising sea. Should we not be expecting some indication of directional change? Are the survivors in the hill in the same direction that Cuegan came from, or perpendicular to their route? For some reason, with all the action and their alternate route, I keep becoming disoriented.

I'd think that the hillbullies (not hillbillies) must live near water also. Likely the same stream. So hope for it.

I don't know, do we really need that? I thought the wiki already was a Frequently Asked Questions resource - if we make a new list on the front page it might quickly become seaish and render the important articles list redundant.

Perhaps make a brand-new Frequently Asked Questions page, with a prominent link on the front page of the wiki?

I think that's a better idea. Also having "Yes, we saw the javascript." on top of the page like that seems slightly unwelcoming, kinda has a "Sigh, newbies..." feel to it...

The person would follow that link, see the answer, and at the same time see the answer to 20 other common questions he/she might not have thought of asking yet, as well as be introduced to the wiki.

Okay, sounds good. I just did a clean-up of the Important Articles List, let me see about starting an FAQ page...

Looked to me like they dismantled and loaded two of them and the covering from a third. Look for the rock LaPetite's cousin was standing on in 3034-3040...it's there the entire sequence including the latest newpix, just barely visible as the water has risen.

It might be a tricky to move with the poles after they pick up the survivors in the hill.

And I wonder if they meet the meowlpy again.

I have been thinking about that. I wonder if they have enough packed supplies on the raft to construct another raft. I just do not see how they are going to fit another 20 people on that. As optimistic as I am regarding the buoyancy of their raft, they seem pretty fully loaded as it is.

It occurs to me that if we're going to now ride the advancing water (poling as necessary to keep from going sideways or back out into the open ocean) that we're going to be going largely horizontal from here on out; the vertical bit will all be done by the sea....

I can't help but think they are just gearing up to burst into kenmelken's 'One Pix More' rendition what with the raft and flags and all!

My philosophy here was, the less one has to change the better, so I tried to make subtle contextual changes that redirected other unaltered pieces of the source text. Anyway, the following is a crazy mess, but so is the OTT and OTC, so that's kinda what I was trying to capture anyway. Behold...

That is one possible universe in the multiverse, but what about the universe where the people are exactly like us, but the books are empty.

As you eliminated causal (i.e. statistically likely) explanations for how the books ended up empty, you approach the eventual limit of "the books got empty by, against unfathomable odds, all the molecules of the ink in all of the books spontaneously undergoing the right series of quantum fluctuations to dissolve/decay/whatever causes that kind of ink to fade, thus blanking the books". Or, maybe the real limit is more like "quantum fields in empty space spontaneously converged, against even more unfathomable odds, to create a planet on which is a library full of blank books and people with false memories who have no idea why there is a library of blank books".

The problem to be solved is exactly the same as this one: You discover that there is a library full of blank books somewhere. How did that get there like that? There are many possible explanations, each with a different likelihood of being true. There are more universes where the more likely explanations occurred (e.g. someone rich guy thought it would be a funny prank present for his bookworm little brother, maybe?) than where the less likely explanations occurred (e.g. all the ink spontaneously decayed due to the exact right series of quantum fluctuations in its constituent molecules, atoms, etc).

What browser? If you use another one, does it work then?
Are you on some kind of corporate network (that may filter stuff), or a home network?
Can you try a right-click on the word “Image”, then “open in new tab” or similar? (Or if that's not there in your browser, “copy image location” or similar, then paste that in the location bar and press enter? What do you see then?

Me browser be IE 10. (go ahead bring on the "Get a real browser" jokes.)
And it's my only one.
Right-clicking does not give "open in new tab" as a highlited option (it's there, just not selectable.)
I did copy and paste the address directly to the Address field and I did get to see the Image on it's own page.
Copy and pasting and opening a new page seems a lot of extra work. Although I imagine some of the jokes are worth it. Which is the reason I was saying, I enjoy the redundant spoilers for those times when all I get is the "Image Box Of Emptiness".

Then, due to some form of a Cassinite scenario, a tornado sweeps by and picks up the sharks, depositing them in Beanieland where everyone else the Cueganites have ever encountered dies, thus making this a sequel to Sharknado.

I really really think that the OTT needs a voting/+1/star thingy for individual posts (replies). This could help a lot with the blog project and will also help speedy blitzers who could read (if they so wish) only the starred posts.
This will increase visibility for things like the (awesome) monopoly, time world painting, clever ramp+LaPetite prediction image and other posts that should not drown in the flood of posts which is the OTT.

Some Ketchup now...

Anyone have any ideas of analysis to do? I'm doing word frequencies and post counts, so far.

It will be interesting to compare this cloud to the cloud of the last 100 pages of the OTT.

And the Winner is C6M3!

So next step is to get the main Megan/Cueball voice recordings done. Also need to think about other characters and who can voice some of the 40 tribe who have spoken. Need to sort out how to do an instrumental version of beanish and find some way to voice Hairdo or whatever you want to call her in broken english.

IMO Hairdo/Rosetta's voice could/should be layered with multiple channels, as is the visual representation of the text. The main channel should be the loudest one, back channels can include the grey words, static noise (which gets louder in the black spots) and/or a reversed version of the recording with lower volume.

Probably.
It looks like the raft is placed on some barrels, which explains how it can keep them all floatONG. Seems like the HillBullies used to throw barrels down the river and all that the Cuganites had to do is pick them out of the river, remove the Hobbits from the inside and then tie them to the raft. Smart.

Focusing too much on one specific example is missing the point. The point the character, and I, was trying to make is that there are theoretical universes that are simply not consistent with the intelligent beings that occupy them. There isn't a universe anywhere with a person just like me having a bookshelf full of empty books, because I wouldn't have a bookshelf like that. Does such a universe exist because random quantum fluctuations make the books all go blank? And many more universes where only one of the books has blank pages? And many, many more universes where just one page gets blanked? And a huge majority of universes where nothing odd happens? It seems much more likely to me that there are deep, mysterious things that we don't yet understand about the relationship between conscious, intelligent beings and the physical and quantum mechanical universe, that would preclude "ridiculous" universes like that ever coming into existence.

No, that's “open link in new tab”, and there is no link, the image is not clickable.
It's IE, so you have to go the long way 'round: properties, then select and copy the address. But looks like you figured that out already.

Anyway, yes, I see the same thing as you.

This will increase visibility for things like the (awesome) monopoly, time world painting, clever ramp+LaPetite prediction image and other posts that should not drown in the flood of posts which is the OTT.

This is an idea that came up before, but was met with some controversy. Some really didn't want it. I don't think I'd mind though, sometimes you see something cool neat and want to acknowledge your liking of it but can't think of anything to actually SAY... Still, it's probably not going to happen. It would only happen if it were implemented across the whole fora.

Redundant. No kitty.

Which is exactly what I've been meaning to do, but haven't. I have a shortage of circular tuits.

Please feel free to check it out and edit away, as I have run out of Time to play around on the OTW todip. Right now it's only a skeleton and needs meaty answery goodness!

I'm schizo-blitzing right now, to ketchup on what I missed (but what to stay current) and I've decided to have a tab open just for those pesky "Image Boxes" with no attachments. It's a pain, but at least I can see what's been posted.

Postby Eternal Density » Wed Jul 24, 2013 11:48 pm UTC

Back in the present again. I've had the David Meece song 'Run' which I quoted a while back stuck in my head all mornip. Which is fine :D It's funny because I haven't heard it lately and couldn't remember the tune of the verses but it spontaneously came to me after I gave up remembering.
Lots of excitement in the OTC. It almost seems like a different comic now. Except that it's always changing in some way and the feeling that it's almost a different comic occurs every few wix at least. Change is constant. That's one thing we can learn from Time.

Also, doubleninja'd :D

I can't quite parse this...

If this is meant to be an impossible statement, then, well, you might as well look for a "2" in the binary expansion.

If it's meant to be impossible if and only if the thing being "proved" is in fact false... well, same thing really. If it's not part of the set of sequences of digits, then it not being present in pi doesn't actually mean anything.

Just goofing on Gödel's theorem. You could work out a formal Gödel incompleteness proof around a proof of the properties of the digits of pi, where the "Gödel number" for the theorem is encoded in the digits of pi, but it wouldn't make the joke funny.
