I don't know if that's entirely the best idea. This subforum is for discussing specific comics and things directly related to them, so I think if we do continue posting here, it should try to stay much more on-topic than we have been; otherwise, if someone wants to make a comment on the comic itself, it may get buried in our ramblings. There's a reason there are other subforums. If we want to continue interacting with others from this thread (I know I do, for sure), we should start another thread, and leave this one for discussion of the comic.
Of course, discussion of the comic is still a pretty wide range and there's still much to discuss. The Wiki still needs more work, there's Beanish to decode, image-manips and song filks to be created, etc. But I'm not sure if it's the best idea to keep all of our wildly off-topic discussions (e.g. {not pointing fingers, these are just the ones I can come up with off the top of my head} pluralization, infinities, regional dialects) to a minimum here, and start a new thread or find an existing one if we have a question that doesn't relate to the comic.

Why on earth would we want to start limiting postings to on-topic NOW?

- Someone comes out of the castleraft and says, "Where'd everyone go? WAIT FOR ME!!" Fade out.
- Rosetta and a few Beanies walk to the shore, see the raft and walk back into the forest looking for Cuegan and their maps.

Wishful thinking, but I'd love to see more.

Exactly! That's the sort of thing that can stay here (in fact, nearly all of what we've been doing definitely fits as on-topic once you realize that the thread is pretty much a part of the comic for all of us). I was just pointing out that this thread can now be locked if the mods so choose, so we should carry on as we are now and try not to get too crazy.

It's not your fault, BlitzGirl - we all ended Time by breaking 50000.

No, the xkcd.com hard drives are 100% full, due to the OTT. GLR had to sell his house to pay for the overage. The bank just repossessed his drawing board and scanner. Thus ends Time, and the One True Thread, and xkcd itself.

I hope you are proud of yourselves. :-(

But many of us don't have any other home in the xkcd fora. BlitzGirl, you're probably the best one to create an "End of Time Support Group" thread. Do you think it's worth it?

You weren't. Even though Into the West was perfect enough, as is... I felt the need to filk it something proper for you guys.

So here it is.
Into the West from the LOTR ost
Spoiler:
March on
With your treasured friends
Water is rising
You've come to journeys end
Molpy down
And dream of fellow friends and dwellers
They are crying
From across the thread of Time

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
Meg and Cue will return someday
Safe in each others arms
You're only dreaming

What can you see
In 1190?
Why does the title text hurt?
Across our thread
A new hope rises
The water still moves on the new ONG

And we will turn
toward each other
A light on the Sea (big)
Forever friends

Time fades
Into the world of night
Through molpies dancing
In our memories and filks
Don't say: We have come now to the end
The thread's still calling
You and I will meet again

And we'll be here in our Time
just comaing

I love you all.

Hey! I just want to point out that I'm not saying we should stop posting here or anything! I'm going to be sticking around for quite some time as well! I just wanted to point out that it may not be a good idea to post things that would work better as a new thread (e.g. if you have a question about something from the Outside that doesn't connect to the OTT or OTC and isn't a continuation of a discussion we've had here, you may want to try drawing on the forum membership as a whole by making it its own thread in the appropriate forum, or looking to see if there's already a thread answering your question). I know that I can't control what you all post, I'm not trying to, and I'd rather not be accused of trying to!

On a somewhat lighter and slightly related note:
There's a whole forum out there, guys! Even if you don't want to stick around in this thread, you can see what the rest of the site has to offer. They don't post quite as rapidly as us, but I think it's a bit of a waste if all of us appear for one comic and then disappear forever.

You weren't. Even though Into the West was perfect enough, as is... I felt the need to filk it something proper for you guys.

So here it is.
Into the West from the LOTR ost
Spoiler:
March on
With your treasured friends
Water is rising
You've come to journeys end
Molpy down
And dream of fellow friends and dwellers
They are crying
From across the thread of Time

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
Meg and Cue will return someday
Safe in each others arms
You're only dreaming

What can you see
In 1190?
Why does the title text hurt?
Across our thread
A new hope rises
The water still moves on the new ONG

And we will turn
toward each other
A light on the Sea (big)
Forever friends

Time fades
Into the world of night
Through molpies dancing
In our memories and filks
Don't say: We have come now to the end
The thread's still calling
You and I will meet again

And we'll be here in our Time
just comaing

I love you all.

Wonderful.

But many of us don't have any other home in the xkcd fora. BlitzGirl, you're probably the best one to create an "End of Time Support Group" thread. Do you think it's worth it?

That's a conundrum - all we know is the OTT. I think, if we can keep discussions at least tangentially RELATED to the OTC, we can survive as a thread. If worst comes to worst, and we become too out-of-line and have to be put down by the mods, I think that will be the Time to make a liferaft thread. But I don't think we're there just yet.

(Semi-blindposting)

The... END? Image

Well, I'd have at least expected an explicit explanation of the Antares enigma and maybe the matter of returning Rosetta's maps resolved.

But well, that's {T|t}ime for you. You can't understand or even experience all of it first-hand and on your own. If you attempt it anyway, it gets seriously in the way of getting stuff done. At first, it seems to move so slow and a lot of it is spent with play. Then, the world gets explored. There is excitement, but also hardship. Relationships to other people are forged. You gain some knowledge, but also tantalizing glimpses of stuff that remains forever beyond your understanding. Then things seem to happen more and more quickly. And then, suddenly, for you it's over and some things are just left forever unresolved.

...Nah. I don't think you can use that as a metaphor for anything. (Or can you?) In the end By another view, it just was a webcomic where the author went out of his way to make it especially hard for his readership to access his work.

I'm glad that I was among those who, collectively, rose to the challenge, and I'm glad to have been, at the end, an active participant in this community. By the way, thanks for all your favourable comments on my ottification!

But to be honest, I'm also somewhat relieved that it is over. The OTC and especially the OTT had increasingly grown into the One True Timesink for me. But at the same time, I'm a little sad because even if the OTT somehow manages to buck my expectations, not peter out and keep alive instead, it won't be the same from now on.

Thank you all.

ETA: And most of all, of course, thank you, Randall, should you ever read this.

Edit 2: Not "just" a webcomic.

Apart from Forum Games, mostly active on the One True Thread.
If you need help understanding what's going on there, the xkcd Time Wiki may be useful.

Addams thanks all of us who helped. Her life is much better now.

Ninja'd, but I just want to point out that I think this is the most beautiful/bittersweet OTTification to date.

Well, I'm back in the present again...

This has been an incredibly amazing journey, and I wish I only had more Time to provide contributions of my own. Many thanks to everyone for being so witty and talented (and, I assume, attractive), and I sincerely hope this community finds a home in the coming weeks. Or maybe keeps this home, because it's not over. Right? Right?

Anyways, I'll treasure my buffy-hat always, and remember with probably a little bit too much pride being the first to make the javascript joke, and... well mostly I'll remember what other people did, and marvel that I got to be even a small part of it.
