That is a brief state, gain 1 more digit and you will get 10KW, then it goes through MW, GW, PW...

Silly Molpy - you're supposed to hear an echo, not see it!

Actually I think he did append surprising behavior.

And very touching Days of our Time. I won't say whether I cried or not, because I'm a Pope, you know. Can't have that. (just a moment, be right back)

Good luck on your gig yappobiscuits! In boca de lupo!&

Where's BlitzGirl when you need her! Hmmm... no BlitzGirl... hmmm.... (looks furtively)... Good luck on your piano exam. Remember - the key to the piano is to B# on the test and sustain the action so you don't autumn flat; that would put a damper on matters.

@ Eternal Density - Treeish (and fast!) OTTity! Pretty soon we'll be cranking them out before the originals come out, and will need a Tardis to ensure the timeline is unharmed!

Speaking of which, mrob27 - "from whence"??? Really now! BTW, there are pictures of you in todip's New York Times - a picture on the bottom of page C27 (CT edition). Alas, I can't find it online (the NYT site navigation is rather poor that way)

As for

That's knot happening. It's just a side effe.... whoa - was that an mrob going by? As I was saying, nothing to wor... another mrob? Wait a minute, something funny's going on. And there's another! And another! Quick, let me start numbering them so I can keep track. mrob1, mrob2, yikes! They're like S&Ms!

I think mrobs are being fired by Chekov's machine gun!

Nice OTTies, by the way. That last one ("Cueball's Potential") really gives me paws!

Thanks mscha for fixing the epilog colors. I wouldn't have called it mustard, but I think the present coloration more accurately reflects current thinking on the underlying fabric of the sequence. It will be interesting to see if the changeover hip changes with daylight saving time. :)

Well, perhaps Amtoo is just inherently better!

Glass Ceilings

Postby Flado » Fri Oct 18, 2013 6:34 pm UTC

Hi! Me again, still on NP 1044. I would've blitzed much faster if I was not busy hunting redundakitties in the Sandcastle Builder :evil:
Anyway, here my first (I believe) contribution to the OTT: step-by-step instructions how to break the glass ceiling and the PL/SQL package used to calculate it (spoilered for seaishness and SB-relatedness):
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE GLASS is
  status varchar2(10):='';
  function have(lev in integer) return boolean;
  function sprint return varchar2;
  procedure buy(lev in integer);
  procedure sell(lev in integer);
  procedure enable(lev in integer);
end;
/

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY GLASS is
  function have(lev in integer) return boolean is
  begin
    return status is not null and instr(status,lev)>0;
  end;

  function sprint return varchar2 is
    ret varchar2(10):='';
  begin
    for i in 0..9 loop
      if have(i) then ret:=ret||i; else ret:=ret||' '; end if;
    end loop;
    return ret;
  end;

  procedure assert(lev in integer) is
  begin
    if lev=0 then return; end if;
    if not have(lev-1) then goto errord; end if;
    for i in 0..lev-2 loop
      if have(i) then goto errord; end if;
    end loop;
    return;
<<errord>>
    raise_application_error(-20001, 'Can''t touch '||lev||' given |'||sprint||'|!');
  end;

  procedure buy(lev in integer)
  is
  begin
    if have(lev) then return; end if;
    enable(lev);
    assert(lev);
    dbms_output.put_line(sprint||': buy  '||lev);
    status:=lev||status;
  end;

  procedure sell(lev in integer)
  is
  begin
    if not have(lev) then return; end if;
    enable(lev);
    assert(lev);
    dbms_output.put_line(sprint||': sell '||lev);
    status:=replace(status,lev,'');
  end;

  procedure enable(lev in integer) is
  begin
    if lev=0 then return; end if;
    if not have(lev-1) then buy(lev-1); end if;
    for i in 0..lev-2 loop
      if have(lev-2-i) then
        sell(lev-2-i);
      end if;
    end loop;
  end;
end;
/

This needs to be executed in sqlplus (or SQL Developer, APEX SQL Workshop, or any other general-purpose Oracle client). It creates a package (sorry, but this is unavoidable) which may be called like this:

Code: Select all

set serveroutput on size unlimited
-- the above will only work in sqlplus and since Oracle 10g
-- see your tool's help for enabling server output
-- Before Oracle 10g, replace unlimited with 1000000
begin
  glass.status:='012345'; -- list the ceilings you currently have here
  glass.buy(6);  glass.buy(5);  glass.buy(4);
  glass.buy(3);  glass.buy(2);  glass.buy(1);  glass.buy(0);
  dbms_output.put_line(glass.sprint||': end');
end;
/

If everything goes according to plan, you get a nice list of purchases and returns ("buy" and "sell") to get from a to b. Here, by way of example, are all the 682 actions necessary to get from zero to hero. If you don't have an Oracle database handy (but, frankly, who doesn't?), you can try finding your current ceiling status in this list and follow from there. You're welcome.

A caveat: I have no idea whether there is more than one way to get from a to b and if so, whether this algorithm produces the optimal path. I got about 300k glass blocks from a locked crate, and DoubleOrNothing, Blitzing, and the Blast Furnace created Wololos of sand and castles for me (4.1W C at the moment the status below was exported), so I don't really care.
Also, bring your own sand, castles and glass blocks for all the "buy" steps :mrgreen:

And lastly, my progress for the sceptic OTTers (aren't we all?):

I note that in the five months between when that ketchup image above was uploaded, and when I uploaded the Bangs saw, 4,262 attachments were uploaded to the forum.

They haven't got us yet, Corinne, they haven't got us yet.

Corinne: No but they are close. The commander would tell us to abandon the mission if he knew how close they are.

Got some Outside chaos going on here. Probably at least mostly good in the long term, but very chaotic in the short term. Middle wolpy's favorite person in the whole world got a new job, 5 states away from here. Now we just need to find a place to live there (that will take the wolpies, of course.)

For the weekend, and because it's an amazing picture, I present a puzzle of ggh's 2110 picture.

callback !!((JSON.parse xhr.responseText)?.nukeLocalRecord)

Postby AluisioASG » Fri Oct 18, 2013 11:09 pm UTC

I've just updated the Blitzer Tracker to version 0.3. It now includes a flag (appropriately named nukeLocalRecord) I can use to override the “should I report we've reached this newpage?” logic from orbit the server. This will be useful to fix situations like Flado's, who's in NP1044 but the tracker have registered as NP1555.

No, that's correct. I'm asking so I can turn on the nukes.

Hm. But the server says you're on the previous page?

Partial Ketchup -

BlitzGirl, ha, your unicorn manip is treeish! Although... in your manip, Megan is saying neat in reaction to the unicorn not the tree, so does that make your manip "unicornish"? And then ZoomanSP's manip would be giraftorish? Or perhaps, should any cool manip involving a newpix of "neat" be recursivish?

Twofer to respond to. Aluisio, I'm wary to install something of which I know little. Maybe explain its purpose more or something. Looks like it tells you what page we're currently reading. Do I trust you with that information? ;) :P

My psychic powers say you were on NP1555, but is currently away.

Seriously, fair. Currently it reports to the database two things: 1) which page you're currently on (it's been designed for blitzers, so there are some checks—also so you don't keep hammering the server), and 2) when was the last time you've read the OTT (i.e. when it was last visible—I may need to use a better way to do this).

I've just added the code to a source control repo, so you may inspect the source code yourself once I publish it.

EDIT (10-19T06:01Z): The source code is now publicly available.

On the OTG front - I think I'm about the same place that Flado is. Yesterday I got my ceilings - though it took longer than it should have because I kept making purchasing mistakes when the redundakitties distracted me. Then a logicat gave me a temporal rift and I jumped. Suddenly, I went from Megan's worry about it not being a good reason back ~300 newpix to Cue's misplaced ladder, and had a chance to buy Time Travel. It felt strange, untethered to the steady beat of the ONG I was enjoying. So I opened up another game window, because I hadn't saved yet, and am continuing without Time Travel.

Haha - I didn't get it before, so I didn't say anything. But then I just went back and looked again and it's a lot funnier. For some reason, my noggin chose to interpret the guy on the left as a doctor ("shot", as in vaccination). It makes a lot more sense without that mental mustard on my part. :)

I just discovered something about SB: Temporal rift + flux turbine + infinite mustard = castles reset to 0 every mNP.

Peeking at the source: Some time while sand tools produce sand, 0 castles are built. But flux turbine provides a multiplier of Infinity, and 0 * Infinity = NaN. Fortunately, the resulting NaN castles is caught fairly quickly, and reset to 0.

As I regularly break it, and sometimes provide fixes I can probably help. Please could you provide an Export of your current game, I will then fix the duff data and hopefully provide a fix as well.

I don't really care about the save (not much gameplay once everything costs Infinity), and you can replicate the result by unlocking flux turbine, and setting totalCastlesDown to Infinity.

The issue occurs when Molpy.Build is called with 0 as the amount and globalCastleMult is Infinity, which produces a single NaN which then converts both castle quantities to NaN as well (since 0 * Infinity = NaN, and NaN + anything = NaN (or anything += NaN = NaN)). Then Molpy.SandToCastles catches the NaNs, resetting the quantities to 0 (fortunately before they can affect anything else).

The question is what caused total castles down to be set to Infinity (and thus globalCastleMult).

I have a large supply - I went through a rift yesterday with 250YWW castles but that is a long way off Infinity.

Yes, once all the web footed raptors are properly aligned.
My job is portable, so not necessarily, but it gives me new reasons to hope.

A rather exploitable combination of features, which I though I read someone actually mention some time ago (but could not find it again). I doubt it's the only way to reach Infinite castles practically, though.

Welcome home. Its been deathly quiet without you todip.

I spent part of yesterdip and todip making a serious start on Beanies chapter 2, 2 lines through my storyboard - I thought they would be 20-30 slides, 70 done so far...

Wow, Chapter 2! Can't wait to wait!

Ah, bummer, BlitzGirl. Hope you're feeling grand in a jif. Here's a grand in a gif:

You face upheaval with great calm, SBN. Good luck on the house search. I hope you find something that both you and the wolpies will love. (Oh, and thanks for the puzzle. I have to admit I feel famous when you puzzlify an image I've posted. I'm, again, not going to admit how long it took me to do.)

Poor Minim. It's a common side-effect of being an OTTer, apparently.

wait a second. LaPetite had a snake... TheMinim has a snake.... HMMMMMMMM
Actually, it was Mini-Bunny who had the snake...perhaps Minim is really Mini-Bunny?!
Their names even start the same way!!

Soo... BlitzGirl = LaPetite = TheMinim = Mini-Bunny = Rosetta = charlie_grumbles ≈ GLR? LaBlitzMin(GL)RumbleBunnySetta?
But wait, we've seen LaPetite and Mini-Bunny together!
Then again, I see both BlitzGirl and TheMinim right now. Hmm.

BlitzGirl wrote:(I wonder how many of those attachments were on the OTT? Can we find out?)

Well, let's see... a quick search gives 1235 uses of the word "redundant" in the OTT. Scrolling through the first page of results, about half of them seem to be actual redundant spoilers. Notably, redundant spoilers show up near the top of the last page. This post seems to be the first use of them, on June 13. Redundant spoilers often contain more than one image, and not everyone uses redundant spoilers for attachments, so there may have been a thousand or more attachments in all.

Edit: And this was the first use of the word "redundant", on NP61:

So, of the 4200 attachments uploaded to the fora in the past five mips, at least 600 were posted on the OTT. And those are only the ones explicitly labelled "redundant." I expect that number is actually quite a bit higher.
