Awww... poor BG. Mopey Molpy Mome again...

for mrob: 1:286394:E:286394:0:.....0....53...2C...17.0.5E42.02A0

I plan to keep playing it though (hopefully) not on a compulsive level. I found it is a nice distraction when doing other work on the PC but it does get a bit repetitive after the first beanie tile.

Thanks, all. I did consider getting a Win 7 machine, but I decided we'd have to figure out 8 sometime. I apparently can't order my new organized sand online, because, "Our website works best with Internet Explorer" I told them I thought that was a bit like demanding that I drive a Chevy to their store to buy things. (Note, I don't have anything in particular against Chevy, that was just what I chose for my analogy.) I understand that they can't guarantee their site will work with every single browser out there, but just one?

Nice adventure. I haven't been to a real castle since last century. It's been 10 yips since I even went to a fake one.

There is (or was) a postcard with pretty much that exact same view in our kitchen. That's a treeish real castle, I'd like to go there... My nearest real castle is privately owned so you can't look round it, but there are some others a little further afield.

I don't relate to the othercomic at all because is it really that difficult to set your ringtone and alarm to different sounds?

My ringtone is the epic orchestral interlude from Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. My alarm tone is Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth. Image

My alarm tone is the acoustic version of Waldschrein by Equilibrium, which someone (possibly you) posted several mips ago in this thread.

That will definitely have been me. Funnily enough I've been working on my own cover of that song recently.

Actually, that song (original, not acoustic) would make a perfect alarm, since it starts with ch*rpies ch*rping and then a cockraptor(hehehe) crowing.

SchizoBlitz Report #7

This report is brought to you by the number 298.

I was gone for a bit of a long wipend due to Easter, but I caught little snippets here and there across multiple devices, hence the lack of specific quotes. Here are the biggest things I can remember:

I have now witnessed yappo's crowning as the Mighty Troubador of the OTT, in the wake of his steakish 1000 posts song!

Someone linked to Candy Box, and, well... I got to infinity candies, lollipops, and health yesterxip.

Also, all of these "idle games" are reminding me of Tribal Wars from my college days, which I can only describe as a competitive C**kie Cl*cker type game featuring a battle system. You build a village to harvest resources so you can take a village to harvest resources so you can take more villages so you can harvest more resources, all while defending your villages from people trying to take them so they can harvest more resources. Maybe once I finish my Blitz I'll start up another game of that...

Laura Mae, I saw your sister had breast cancer, I hope she has recovered well in these past 7 mips. Sounds like my mom is in a similar stage of recovery right now as your sister was in the afore-when of September, with her surgery scheduled for next wip, though I think she's skipping the reconstruction for now.

ED: I have a couple potential bugs to report on SB. Firstly, I started a new game on my workplace TimeAccessor, but when I bought my first bag it didn't start giving me sand. I had to save and reload for it to activate. I am on Chrome 34.0.1847.116 m (which purports to be the most up-do-date version), if that helps any.

Also, I found that, if you hit 'f' and '5' on your leopard simultaneously and hold them, it acts the same as clicking reeeeeeeeeeeeeally fast, since it seems that Windows reads that as very fast alternation between the two keys. I'm not sure if that's possible to fix, but if you're currently just reading text input or something then you could possibly change it to watch for "key down" and/or "key up" events and close that loophole, as long as the driver isn't interpreting that as switching between the two keys and telling Windows that's what's happening.
In a comically tragic turn of events, Addams didn't die. You can help her here.

Does the basement ever end?

Good luck to all the Blitzers out there!

mrob27 wrote:Just because of this OTT discussion, I spent about 1/2 newpix on the Windows 8 system trying to see if it's still easy to do that. Sadly, no, it seems. Snipping Tool is still there, but sadly the steps are harder:
  • Mouse to upper-right corner (or however you get to the Win8 start screen)
  • Type 'SNIP' and hit enter, Snipping Tool will open
  • Alt-Tab back to your browser window or whatever you want to snip from
  • Ctrl-PrntScr, and the cursor changes to a selection cursor
  • Select the rectangle to snip, then it creates an image and opens it into a new window
  • Click the floppy-disk icon to save it somewhere.

What I usually do is (lets see if I get less steps):
  • Hit PrintScreen
  • Open IrfanView (which I have pinned on taskbar)
  • Press Ctrl+V
  • Make selection with mouse
  • Press Ctrl+Y (crop)
  • Ctrl+S to save it somewhere.
(well, it's 6 steps too...)

Also, if you press Alt+PrintScreen, you capture the active window only. And they have added a molpish feature in Windows 8 - if you press Win+PrintScreen, the screenshot is automatically saved in the Pictures\Screenshots folder. Which is great if you want to take a series of screenshots, which was very uncomfortable to do in older Windows without using external application.

Also, my string:

Code: Select all

1:1668370:G:3478:0:020003422.171..263..181.........0..

Haven't been playing since the win, because I didn't have Time. I would like to test if the algorithm is really working or if I was being extremely lucky or if it was skipping some keystrokes and therefore it wasn't DRUL (which you say you couldn't win with).

SBN wrote:
yappobiscuits wrote:I don't relate to the othercomic at all because is it really that difficult to set your ringtone and alarm to different sounds?

I can relate, but only because I often wake up confused and scared. Not sure why scared, but my family will confirm. I'd be more likely to hang up on a phone call than answer an alarm though. The sounds are different, but they are something like 'music 1' and 'music 2' on my non-smart phone.

I relate partially. Sometimes it's ok and I know it's alarm, because it sounds very different (it's not music, I have find out that whatever song I set as my alarm, I start being allergic to that song just after a week or two. Maybe if my phone would be able to choose random song, then it would be fine). But what happens sometimes to me is something like this:
*alarm goes off* What is that sound? Where is it coming from? What does it mean? How do I stop it? Should I get up? What time is it? What day is it? What year is it? Where am I? What planet am I on? What should I do? *slowly awakening* Oh ch*rp, I have to get up, do I? I hate mornings...
Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

I have a dumbphone, unfortunatelybut I'm happy with it.

On the castle discussion - I have one real-castle about 15 minutes of walk from my house, on a smallbut steep hill right in the city center. Even though it was founded in the 13th century, it doesn't look as old (or not all parts at least) as the stereotypical image of a castle, because it was constantly rebuilt as Time went, but the ditch and defensive walls made of red bricks look molpish anyway. There's another castle just outside the city, which is a little more old-looking.

Re Windows 8:
Some of the improvements were really good. The task manager is a work of art, ribbon in the explorer is nice, and having an app store is a good move, though questionable to make it controlled by a central authority. As HES said, the central issue was the removal of user choice. What if I want my start menu and glassy windows? I don't feel I should have to resort to third party tools to get back stuff I had in the older version. For this reason I have stayed on windows 7 and recommended my family do the same. The only larger-than-a-phone touchscreen device in the house is an iPad, anyway.

Re Q04B: I played until SurveyTower, stopped, and have only picked it back up briefly to mess with some javascript (did anyone notice it?), setInterval automation and things (the hanging saliva method got me to 130k points once) and while bored in class. I don't really have any intention of approaching it seriously again after I learned that my 1.5 hour game only got me 1/8 of the way to the end of the game.

Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Well, I keep telling myself that I'm just going to blitz through stuff so that I can ketchup, but there are so many treeish things to respond to!! So, sorry for seaish post. Ketchup through page...um.. 1884 or so.

Preview edit: I'm splitting into 2 posts. Something is my post was breaking the forum and I couldn't figure out what it was...

AluisioASG wrote:My solution:
  1. Select volunteers which have a suitable mental model and desirable qualities. Make sure they're diverse enough and in large number.
  2. Isolate the volunteers from the rest of the world, putting them into an environment that benefits the desired behaviors and attributes.
  3. Let them inbreed for some generations, removing undesirable individuals from the experiment. Eventually the target population will be able to perform this last part by themselves.
  4. Mix and bake for half a longpix.
  5. Profit!
This has 93.48% probability of going wrong, which is consistent with the fact I don't have an oven.[/spoiler]

I think this was my favorite response to ggh's question.

Okay, wait, yes, that.

Welcome here, O Mighty Revealing Crow the Recent. I see you're about to have 30000 posts! Wow! I guess that comes of being a mod but still, impressive!

Belial wrote:I mean, we let people drive without requiring them to build their own internal combustion engines.

I believe you have just provided the perfect solution to our overcrowded freeways. Nicely done.

I think that using the Wikia infrastructure could be a good idea, along with the Talk page, but I can keep posting here, or maybe post only in the Beanish forum. I would like to keep things how I've been doing them, posting links here and the full text of my blog when I find in appropriate, after all we are indeed a community and we seem to like all kinds of Time-derivative work (and my "research" is just that -- I am a zero when it comes to drawing, so I would like my Time after Time to be written. In Beanish, of course. )

I think how you're doing it is just fine. I read through your Beanish posts yet. Didn't understand much of it, which is in no way a reflection on how you wrote them. I think there's a fine line between writing so that the terminology is correct and writing so that people like me who don't have the background can understand. What you're doing is great.

Hi, Bad Hair Man, nice to see you! Thanks for re-posting those limericks.

AluisioASG wrote:Also, I want waffles. For dinner. But we don't have these in Brazil, so I'll have a chocolate bar instead.

No waffles in Brazil??!? Now I feel like I need to send you waffles, although they wouldn't be very good by the time they got there. Come to California and I'll make you waffles.

The discussion that NoMouse started about gender in language was really interesting. As an English speaker, the whole concept has always been somewhat confusing to me. I've learned a (very) little bit of Russian, and it seems like in that language there's gender all over the place. Like, the person speaking says things a certain way based on their gender, but also the gender of the person they're talking to, and the gender of the various objects in the room--ok, maybe not that last part, but still. Makes my brain hurt.

I quoted something from mscha, but I have no idea what I was going to say. So, hi, mscha! (started this post in TextEdit, which really wants to call you mocha...)

ucim wrote:For Pope, Boontling is a fave - I don't really speak it, but it's a lot like OTTish in origin and effect. I've mentioned it before, but it's still treeish.

Oooh, yes! One of these days I need to travel up to Boontville and check it out for myself.

ED, I see you're now self-employed. That is so treeish. Congratulations and bonne chance!

There's more. It's all in my head. I need a thought-transcriber. Or to sit my butt down and actually type it out. But thanks, glad you liked it!

I actually liked that one. I thought it was hilarious, loved the bad jokes and the old guys. It had the special bonus of being filmed at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and other local places. But the one with Khan was my favorite. Ricardo Montalban is a badass. I like the new ones too. Like ggh said, I like cheesy.

Ah, thanks, oldpixbot, for posting so that I could post Part 2 of my ketchup. Took me forever to find the problem, but I think the post works now.

balthasar_s wrote:ETA:Yes it does! It did not tell me anything about lmjb1964's post even though it was posted after I started writing this post. Thanks, lmjb for posting so I didn't have to wait any more.
This is important. If we make an userscript that removes the two hidden fields from the form, after clicking "Submit" the post will be posted even if new posts were made. You will not be sent back to preview.
Also, if you have a bot that sends posts and doesn't include these 2 fields it will either send the post or get an error message if something went wrong. No going back to preview.

Ooh, I like it! And I got to unknowingly help test it! Cool.

Thanks for the 800 cake and wishes, Zooman, ggh and karhell!

More on language--There are so many times in this thread when I've said,"No way! <insert name here> isn't a native English speaker? I had no idea!" (You all remember our old friend <insert name here>, right?)(Actually, now I wish that was my username.) I am always impressed by how good everyone's English is. As others have pointed out, it's most often given away not by errors, but by being too correct and sounding a little formal.

Nice to see Maugrim posting again.

Maybe we could lead a Zanclean flood through the house, so that Mother and her furniture are washed into the new apartment. By careful engineering, the unnecessary furniture should sink forever, while the useful stuff should float, and the house would certainly become cleaner. Please stand back, I am going to try Hydrology! (Hydraulics? Limnology?)

(Notice how skillfully I got back on topic, while throwing in a reference to Hercules? I am as erudite as a volcano.)

Well, keep calm and molpy on.

Oh dear, I hope the project was eventually completed successfully sans flood.
