Recently, I noticed something: When Cuegan arrived at the river3, they seemed to shrink when they sat down to drink and refill their dilgunnerangs (cf. here and here). Back then, we didn't seem to notice it, according to a quick mini-blitz of the OTT during the respective longpix. There might be several explanations:

  • The camera zoomed out a litttle, and the riverbank happend to change exactly in the way that it looks identical in the zoomed-out view, although we see a bigger part of the landscape now.
  • It's a first hint towards Expando.
  • Spoiler:
It can't be... mustard, can it?
Wait on.

I think because they were walking along the sea they had to sit further up the riverbank for fresher water, so they are further back than they were before.

Must be where Expando gets his expandy powers. He sucks size from others. Whenever anyone shrinks slightly, Expando expands a little more.

But until dnsd.info starts working again I'll use a redundant URL:

AUTOMOME 2.0 RELEASED

Although the visible changes are quite riverish (some of mrob27's memes have been added, I've added "baobabby", and there is one entirely new meme), this update brings a significant behind-the-scenes addition: a system that allows multiple forms of the same word to be grouped together. This fixes the "XING XERS GONNA X" meme, for example.

Thank you for doing that, @Link! It was on my to-do list, after noticing that the original AUTOMEME uses a five-column form for its verbs:

(Spoiler:ed for big-long-codeyness:)
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

 # intransitive verb (no object)

    'iverb': [
        # I write; He writes; I wrote; I have/had written; I am/was writing
'bail out; bails out; bailed out; ~; bailing out',
        'blog; ~s; blogged; ~; blogging',
'chew bees; chews bees; chewed bees; ~; chewing bees',
...

I had to make do with a dumb regex that only mostly-but-not-always works:

Code: Select all

 # "Haters gonna hate", possibly from 3LW song "Playas gon' play"
 # (2000) which has a few other lines matching the snowclone;
 #    I lengthened it to "hating haters gonna hate" because it's funnier.
 # %%% This creates mustard like 'KETCHUPPING KETCHUPPERS GONNA KETCHUPP',
 # '... GONNA HID FROM CORINNE' (instead of HIDE) and other incorrect
 # conjugations.  We really need a way to transform verb tenses by looking up
 # in tables (e.g. if the original verb is the 7th entry in the verb-tr-cont
 # table, then use the 7th verb-tr-actor and the 7th verb-tr-inf)
 [verb-tr-cont, verb-intr-cont] [$0/ING/ERS/] GONNA [$0/ING//]

but of course yours is much better

Code: Select all

 # vim: se tw=0 :
 BLITZ       | BLITZING          | BLITZES       | BLITZED       | BLITZED
 BLITZNAP    | BLITZNAPPING      | BLITZNAPS     | BLITZNAPPED   | BLITZNAPPED
 CH*RP       | CH*RPING          | CH*RPS        | CH*RPED       | CH*RPED
 ...
    # -ING verbs
    cls.classes['verb-ing-multiform'] = [x for x in
      (cls.classes['verb-intr-multiform'] +
        cls.classes['verb-tr-multiform']) if x[1].endswith('ING')]
 ...
  Meme('{} {} GONNA {}',
    MultiWord('verb-ing-multiform', 1),
    IndexMap(0, lambda x: (x[1][:-4] + 'IERS') if x[1].endswith('YING')
      else (x[1][:-3] + 'ERS')),
  IndexMap(0, lambda x: x[0])), # Credit: mrob27
I'll work on making mine do this too, and maybe nudge @azule in a similar direction. I'll try to add a [verb-ing-multiform] class too. It's the right way to do the verbs. Thanks!

Hey there. How goes the OTT? lots has happened since I last perused its fair pages.

Zombobeanies recovery has been quite exciting. Although the barrel discovery has perhaps rendered all the nuclear power station research and CIA baiting irrelevant.

I have however developed a new fear of the colour blue. Which could be a problem for me.

UNIX-speak is a bit like Ottish in that respect; it's completely incomprehensible to those who don't know the jargon. An example (true story):
Spoiler:
I dd'ed /dev/zero to a file and formatted it as EXT4 using mke2fs. I then debootstrapped Wheezy-armhf onto it, pushed it onto my rooted Android phone using adb, and wrote a script to losetup the image, mount the virtual block device, and chroot into it. I then used APT to install a full GNU toolchain, among other things, so I can clone some git repos and hack FLOSS. Also handy: I have Texlive and Vim, so I can do my homework (for which I use LaTeX and git) and latexmk it into PDF, all from my phone.
It is a lot like OTTish! I can follow the sense of the sentence structure, but most of the verbs and pretty much all of the nouns are words I don't know. Neat!

Oh! No, I don't mean that your post bothers me :) I mean the [size] function doesn't appear to have any logic to it, and it makes me crazy. It makes no sense at all that I can see - from my tiny, tiny bit of programming knowledge (one course in basic in 1982 on a machine that used punch cards, and one self-taught course in Visual Basic) it only makes sense to have [size] be a percentage of the default.

Some updates

Postby AluisioASG » Sun May 25, 2014 4:23 am UTC

  1. There seems to be a fatal error in the Heartbeat userscript. No, it won't bleed your data. Quite the opposite, in fact.
  2. For the record, currently it only records when your OTT tab was last visible, updating every 90 seconds (if still visible). I'm pondering whether to go creepier now that I have access to real-time synchronization (or maybe not, depends on the bug above).
  3. I'm back to working on the map. Last time I worked on it was 0.81 Times ago.
  4. Firebase is awe-some. My data models are now redundant.
  5. In case any of you have concerns about having a closed source blob running in the map, I can adjust the soon-to-be-old REST sync engine and keep it around. You just won't have the real-time nicety unless someone else writes the code.
  6. I apparently have given up on starting doing one of the course projects I was supposed to deliver next week. But I believe I've now gotten the gist of how things should work, so I should fare better on all disciplines next semester. (Assuming I have enough disciplines to justify my continued permanence here. I can't attend anything 4th semester onwards before completing everything from the first 3.)
  7. The discipline that project belongs to is a prerequisite to Operating Systems.
    Spoiler:
    Image
That's from yesterday. I fixed the issue formula a dozen minutes later. I'm thinking of learning other stuff to work on during the World Cup break.
  8. As you may have noticed, I'm thinking on changing ‘run’ to ‘Time’. What dayya think? Once t1i e**s, we could have ‘SilentTime’s too.
  9. Happy National Coffee Day.

  12. mrob, I liked your travelogue.

CONSIDER THE CUEGANITES OF THE BLUE CAVE

I'm really liking the blueness server, @balthablueinator!

Oh! I misunderstood.
It's odd though, because to me the sizes all come out in sequence:

This is with the browser's zoom set to 100%, but changing that just makes everything scale up or down proportionally. What browser are you using and what version is it? The HTML in question (<span style="font-size: 85%; line-height: 116%;">) has been part of the standard for a reeeaaaallly long time.

Excellent synopsis (the whole post, I mean, not just the Waiting ;) )

What did Megan say ‘thank you’ to Ms Frizzle about?

Certainly. But be careful with those claws, Muses can be sensitive.
Nah, she's a crab, too. I just have to make sure I don't snap off a pincer.

Yay, happy dance! Hey, if my jewelry-size wire figures of Cuegan work out, would you like some? I was originally thinking earrings, but the only jewelry I actually wear is bracelets so I could do that. Or hair accessories, I wear those too. Hmm...

Argh, I grew up with one of those. Even with a sump pump, we got flooded three or four times a year and had to have everything up on bricks. Even the meowlpie's litter box, which was actually kind of fun...

HES wrote:Now it all makes sense. People don't fall into the basement, the OTT is a building that is sinking under all the extra weight. The pastpresent becomes the basement as it reaches ground level...
So the more we post, the more basement there is? I don't like that at all... But maybe the lower layers of the basement compress as Time goes by? That would be helpful, unless they compressed enough to creat basementium - that stuff would be incredibly dangerous to OTTers, like krypton is to Superman.

My sympathies! I related my own Zanclean Basement experience back in the NP1700s.

It's from Happy Birthday, Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton, one of my favorite young children's authors. Little Wonder's about 4 yips old, right? She probably would still enjoy Boynton's books, they're very silly. Blue Hat, Green Hat is a favorite, but not for bedtime - it makes the little ones giggle too much :P

Mixed Ketchup

What is a duckhead, ggh? I'm guessing this is the local name for a wall adaptor. Do you have other cute names for everything? I'd like to visit, if so. hehe.

Sorry about your ratmolpy, laura.

KayZ, neat head hotdog. Was there a goal besides pfffthing around?

ggh wrote:Hmm. Guess I should have asked about that before I stayed up 'til 4:30am working on those. Oops. Now that I see what you want, mumble, mumble... <backs away>.
Sorry. Thanks for obliging....I don't think it went to waste, as many enjoyed them, including me. I guess I tend to not communicate the clearesty.

If y'all are gonna do that with my name then I'm gonna lol as such: me! :P

What show/episode? I'm out of the loop. :( Who's mummy? Is this British or Egyptian?

mikrit wrote:My brain always tries to parse that as "Moderately Safe for Work Furry Puppies".
FTFY. You know what I mean. *includes image explaining the joke* (I changed the last word to wolpy related...but you can probably guess the original version.)

yappo wrote:(My first OTTercomic made with azule's improved One True Font. Thanks, azule!)
You're welcome. Just wait for version 20, that'll be neat. I liked your comic. Sometimes I wonder why I didn't think of that (as I did a quick mental attempt at OTTifying and came up with nothing). I think that might be the first use of one of our era names in an OTTification. Neat.

yappo responding to an colpix wrote:Oh that's pretty, I don't remember seeing that one before. Steakish, whoever made it!
Yeah, me neither. I know at one time people were submitting directly to the wiki (only). Sneaky molpies!

Babies, too. Mine is saying "KH" for kitty. That's right, no vowels present and not "K". I still don't know what "GAH!" means (always yelled and short), but that's the go to word right now. This babymolp? is very vocal right now. (Yeah, I used your quote as an excuse. Sorry. I hope you like being used for the purpose of baby cuteness. ;))

lmjb1964 wrote:I yelled, "Dixie!" and she did turn her head ever so slightly--further away from me. Little brat.
My meowlpies actually do perk up and sometimes look. Sorry that yours are giving you a hard time. lol.

lmjb wrote:Image
Don't answer, but how did you do that? 'Cause I see these circles on the sides. I guess that's related to, what did you say, Microsoft Slide Maker (sorry)?
I like how Cue says "how big" and he's really big and Megan says "I don't know" while she doesn't look at him (to see how big he is).

ggh wrote:I only looked it up now because it was the second time someone asked how they worked. The first time, I just said I didn't know.
It's always best policy to answer all rhetorical questions. I expect all my rhetorical questions to be pondered, and maybe even answered. :)

Does the ‘a’ merge with the ‘e’?
Yeah, me neither. The EA in TEA is basically as if it were spelled TEE, where the A no longer has any A pronunciation of any kind.

I was reminded that you can also be called erg, ergman. :) Could you explain the reference? I've seen the movie but don't know the point.

Hmm, so does Zan mean something. It doesn't mean dirty, right? Help me out.

I should be documenting my code for coding articles. Yeah, maybe on my next step or next project. It would be molpish and informative. :)
