Poped: If you have a baby, you're likely to get poped every so often.

If you have a baby, you pretty much sleep how the baby sleeps. It's actually kind of fun. *hair turns white* Now I wonder what a silver-haired fox looks like. Probably very distinguished. Probably smokes a pipe. Well, a bubble pipe.

I think I remember discussion of NaNoWriMo, last yip. I didn't remember learning what it meant, but I've looked it up just now. This does seem like a horrible time to initiate 50,000 words. People, theoretically, have a break until Thanksgiving, but the holiday season never seems to be stress-free. Maybe it should be moved to February or something.

I like the idea of this thing, though. If I were try this with code, would it be called the Bloated Code Project? lol. Maybe novels are too long. I mostly read short(er) stories...

Edit:
Decree: Whatever you write on this page, justify it with OTTish RELATEDNESS.

To fulfill my decree: There were issues of sleep in the OTC, but, aside from a comment during the Long Night, no one seemed to have any serious sleep-deprivation.

Writing a 50K Time Novel sounds crazy. Would this bring in more Outsiders if this were to find its way onto bookshelves and the New York Times list?

I like learning new things on the OTT! (I read the Otherwiki article.) I didn't realize that my pattern of taking a long nap in the afternoon during the fall/winter was actually something SCIENCE knew about. I thought it was just my brain being epsilon.

Yesterdip was my birthdip.

Postby NoMouse » Sat Nov 08, 2014 7:21 pm UTC

Happy birthdip, BlitzGirl!

Image

This is weird, BG is exactly one yip minus one dip older than me.

ETA: And apparently yesterdip was also edfel's and foilman's birthdip, as BlitzGirl pointed out a yip ago. Happy birthdip, edfel! Happy birthdip, foilman! And since I wasn't here at that time and have read that message just now, thank you for that wish, BlitzGirl!

ETA2: OTT Time Travel: Funny coincidence inside a coincidence inside a coincidence (coincidenception?): my blindpost about November 7 (the date that was originally believed to be the date of the starry night) being also my birthday ended up just below edfel's post about November 7 being also his birthday in which he is quoting foilman's post about November 7 being also his birthday.

Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Do they need to be coherent?

Probably, but good news, I wrote 2000 words in an hour and a half. Then I lost interest. They were pretty coherent, but my first drafts tend to be sparse and often focused heavily on dialog. No time for (much) revision though if I'm going to reach 50,000 words in the next 22 days. I'm going to have to write more than 2000 words a few days, so I'm going to have to find a way to maintain my creative stamina as the month goes on.

taixzo wrote:Oh, cool! What schedule are you on? I was on the Uberman schedule for four months last year.

I'm just going to say it, that's crazy. You are a crazy person. I'm basically doing a dual core plus naps. 10p-2:30a, 6a-7:30a, and a nap usually around 10a and 2p. Note a huge gain in awake time, but I used to need 9 hours of sleep a night, so this is an improvement. Also, it's a very easy schedule, there was almost no adjustment period, and it's very flexible. I can easily move the naps around and if I miss one I'm reasonable function, I probably shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car, but pretty functional.

EVERYTHING is RELATED. I don't feel the need to justify ;)

Crazy is relative. :P

But, I ended up switching back because the naptimes (which are very rigid in Uberman) were interfering with other people's schedules.

I also did a dual core for five months a few years back - sleeping from 7pm-11pm, and then from 2am to 7am. No change in sleep time, but it let me talk with friends who were in very different time zones.

Soon after you posted this, googlebot tried to remove the message. (and then to quote it). But forms are still too difficult for this bot.

I was alarmed  when I started to read this.
Until I read "a pm".

ETA: 'Twas a brillig brilliant Jabberwocky on NP 2147, Dracomax.

I consider my username to be case-insensitive: I don't care how people capitalize it. I just chose lowercase so I wouldn't have to press SHIFT when logging in, thereby reducing the risk for carpal tunnel syndrome by 0.0000000000003 percent.

I'll find out how long it takes for me to go by train to Bochum; that must be the sustainablest transport, right?, apart from teleportation Skype. It looks very close on the map, if I zoom out enough.

Probably.
If you want help with that, drop° me a PM. We have an expert here.

mikrit wrote:apart from teleportation Skype.

Skype is not sustainable.
But we'll provide a sustainable alternative. Wait for it.

°: Depending on the height, being dropped might have the same effect as being shot. Fortunately, the sentence goes on with “a PM”.

Is there a recommended speech length, Sustainabilizer?

Very wise, mIkRiT. :)

For decree: MiKRit has "it" in it. Thus RELATED.

I discovered that username input to the fora isn't case sensitive, which saves me some shifting.

(But for the love of molpy capitalise my name. And apostrophise when stating what he is doing, whoever he may be.)

Sustainabilizer: Thanks, I will.
About Skype: "secure" and "sustainable" are different things, aren't they? Example: a solar-powered spy drone would be sustainable, but would compromise security. But don't listen to me: I am biased, as I earn my living in a company that sells non-free <computery stuff>.

I don't understand why it would be bad for Backwards Hamply to see Nils. Nils sits at the desk next to mine. He is a nice guy.

wimpled?

Postby HES » Sun Nov 09, 2014 8:23 pm UTC

I believe the unsustainability of Skype is that it is owned by Microsoft, is not open source, and may disappear at any time.

That's something we can discuss and decide here. :)
(Discussions about Time schedules are RELATED, of course.)

A typical scenario would be: ½ np for the actual speech plus ¼ np for discussions.
Depending on the number of speakers and personal preferences of the speakers, we might shorten or stretch this.

There is a German rule about the length of scientific speeches:
Du darfst über alles reden,
nur nicht über eine Stunde.

Translation: You may speak about everything,
but not for over one hour.

(The German preposition „über“ means both “about” and “over”.)

Late ETA:
A translation which preserves the ambiguity:
You may speak about everything,
but about one hour must be enough.
