...Your input as a mod would be greatly appreciated; even if you can't go to Germany, arrangements can be made to video yourself in. There's even real money in it - the conference pays 500 euros for a talk.
As to your preference that we expand to the rest of the forum, many of us do
frequent other parts of the forum. But do you really want OTTish all over the place?
Integrated OOTish? Sure. We already have otter/duck, Jacques needing to wear the makeup, everyone being Cheese and other such references that are fairly forum specific.
I can make all sorts of analogies (I like analogies) but the core of it boils down to - the Time thread breaks the rules. Specifically #5 (and probably #7 but I don't feel like digging up examples) of the General Rules, and, due to the incredible drift, Rule v. of the ITC rules.
All that's been hashed before - long before, and you'll note that despite everyone (more or less) being in complete agreement that yes, this thread breaks those rules... we're still not holding this thread to them. Mostly due to the participants of the thread not wanting it that way, and that is mostly due to the participants of the thread never having it any other way.
And - I just want to stress this again - despite the Mods not really monitoring the Time thread or participating or even following it closely enough to know who the frequent posters are, y'all are having a hell of a time in here and as it's the job of the Modstaff (among other things) to make sure everyone's enjoying themselves as best they can.... we've got no intention of changing anything in here.
What's done is done and it can't be undone. We'd much have preferred Molpish or Pope-ing to have joined the ranks of otter/duck or sould (anyone else here remember sould? no? Just me? .... okay
.) or attacks of the LARGE TEXT BARON
but that didn't happen and at this point it's not likely going to happen for... all sorts of reasons that have been hashed out and rehashed and rehashed and I'd rather not go into them again.
So.. yeah, if it looked like it was going to happen again, we'd break it up.
As is, this thread is the exception. Every other thread in ITC has to follow the rules. Every other thread in every other forum has to follow the general rules and, if applicable, it's subforum rules. Even the non-moderated FaiD has a rule it has to follow (that rule basically boils down to "Don't break US Law").
This thread doesn't. It should, but it doesn't, and we're not going to change that.
Because yes, something magic and special and unique and one-of-a-kind happened here. A bunch of people, some established, some not, got together and made something, together. And yes, The Mods regret that we didn't make the thread follow the rules like every other thread on the forum, we are also glad that we got to see something strange and new and wonderful happen, even if we didn't really understand what it was.
But it would never happen again.
Even if Time 2 started, even if there was something similar (as we're seeing now) that was only connected by the frame-by-frame format. Even if there was a new thread full of new people sharing their thoughts and ideas of what was going to happen....
You already exist. The OTTers exist. Most likely, anything in the Time 2 thread that started would be shaped by your hand. It wouldn't be a new, special, unique, once-in-a-website's-life experience, it'd be Time Jr - like it's older sibling. Different enough to be a new thing, but similar enough to be a bit of a rehash.
Because you, intentionally or not, would shape and mold it in the pattern you're already accustomed to. The tone, the style, the speed - you're already familiar with it, and doing it again would be putting on an old pair of comfortable slippers you've not worn in a bit.
Here, you were the first to rip apart roller skates, nail them onto a plank and ride on it around the town, occasionally making the "skating board" jump and twirl. Time 2 would be taking a board into a half-pipe and doing tricks no one had seen before, possibly, yes. I won't deny that. But it'd still be something we're familiar with. We may not know the exact notes and words, but we can already hum some of the melody.
Did I mention I like analogies?
