1. Nothing personally. With a family of 10, it's easier not to have 90 gifts to unwrap!

2. Eternal Density Control, interior proofed against Zanclean water.

Nothing too huge, but I did get a 5th edition D&D player's handbook, which I'm quite excited to try out. Also received a combined total of just over $200 in cash, checks, and gift cards, so I guess I get to decide for myself what my big gift is.

Blindposting to wish everyone a molpish Boxing Day. Hopefully all of your Christmases and Hanukkahs were happy. I've traveled across the country and am now in the bosom of my family. (Heh heh, she said bosom.) Almost finished my ketchup yesterday, but coma won out. And it's amazing how much time being with family takes up.

I got a PM from ggh. While in the shed, she tripped and landed in the basement, and will probably be there for a month while Little Wonder's dad is in town. She asked me to wish everyone a merry Christmas from her. So send ggh some molpish wishes either telepathically or by PM.

Hey, did we decide on two days for the conference?

CH*RPING OTTIFICATIONS, HOW DO THEY WORK?

Postby Eternal Density » Fri Dec 26, 2014 11:36 pm UTC

A couple of gifts:
My parents gave me a cooling pad to sit my lapleopard on. It has airblowers that can be configured in appropriate positions for effective blowing.
One of my aunts gave me a very interesting-looking book: "God's Double Agent: The True Story of a Chinese Christian's Fight for Freedom".

Also a treeish blanket, some molpish pajamas, an audiobook and a kit to convert my bicycle wheels to be 'tubeless'.
Todip we travel again, to spend time with my mum's side of the family (on Christmas dip we were with my dad's side). Because there's more people (and several cousins) we're each bringing one gift and will be playing an amusing game to distribute them. (Take turns at picking a wrapped gift out of the pile and unwrapping it, or taking an unwrapped gift from someone who's already had their turn, which recursively causes them to seek a new gift either from the pile or another person...)

I guess I've forgotten how ottifications work, thanks for noticing automome :(

So they are in another building of the moon base now. Their view is mirrored. The earth and the antenna¹ are not in view. Maybe they are in the antenna building? (And the antenna is even more seaish than I thought?)

SW had her surgery yesterday, and is now home, resting comfortably. No trips to the wolpy park for awhile, but otherwise all is well.

We had a pretty riverish holidip since more stuff means more to move. But I got a couple new games, and a shirt with a big, black wolpy on it.

And MSWFP got this shirt.

As I wrote via PM:

Here are some ideas for the title of your speech:
  • Beanish: A community effort to decipher a linguistic mystery
  • Community effects in applied linguistics
  • Interactions between online communities and linguistic research
  • Image
Don't worry: If you speech does not really focus on the “community” aspect but it is real science, it is on-topic at the conference. I know that the target audience is highly interested in your ongoing research about the Beanish language. :)

tresoldi wrote:When should an outline of the speech be ready? Or have I already missed the deadline?

As soon as possible, ;) so we can write fliers and such to advertise the conference.
Since you won't need a hotel we don't need much personal data from you. Some notes about who you are and what you are doing would be nice.
OTOH we'll want to test our setup for remote speeches. We'll contact you and all remote speakers when it's ready. Wait for it.

Now, now....
Let's not go Nuts.

Well...ok..If it's a Tradition.

Spoiler:
Traditions are very important for Human Beings.
We are not born with a great many Traditions.

Traditions must be learned.
As we look at ourselves and our Brothers and Sisters around The World,
We find Strange and Wonderful Traditions. They serve a Purpose.

Everywhere I know of, Traditions tell us something very important about ourselves.
The very most important thing that Traditions do is connect us to other Human Beings.

Even if those Human Beings are only in our Imaginations.
Sometimes, The Best People exist only in our Imaginations.

You, the Time Thread of xkcd Forum are as imaginary as a Novel.
You are also Real....maybe...
Life is, just, an exchange of electrons; It is up to us to give it meaning.

We are all in The Gutter.
Some of us see The Gutter.
Some of us see The Stars.
by mr. Oscar Wilde.

Those that want to Know; Know.
Those that do not Know; Don't tell them.
They do terrible things to people that Tell Them.

I think it probably is a Tradition.
Original Timewaiters were quite Nuts to keep up with a one-frame-per-hour story.

The Madness also struck in the early days of Time.
Only the truly mad stayed around and endured it while Waiting.

I suppose we'll find out we're fictional if the conference starts and nomolpy shows up.

If that happens, there'll be nomolpy to notice.

Great to see you around addams! I won't be able to attend the conference personally but I will plan to do something via organized sand.

I wonder how meeting each other in real life will affect the OTT. While we're interacting via electrons, we carry a fantasy of who the other person is, based on their writing and their avatar, and we are actually interacting with that fantasy. It's easy to be selective in what one perceives. But reality is quite inflexible, being real and all, so a number of fantasies will be... er... at least modified.

For decree, I got a beer making kit. I like beer (I've been getting into IPAs lately) but I've never made it myself. I know people who do; they'll be a good resource. (I've heard that thing one is having everything scrupulously clean.) I knew somebody who made wine in college; he didn't have grape juice however, so he used Tang.

He didn't have grape Tang, so he used Orange Tang.

I did not go near the resulting concoction, and from what I heard, it lived up to my expectations.
