At the time of Seven OTTers in a Bar there were only seven OTTers in a bar, but that number fluctuated within a shortpix either side.

SilentTimer wrote:If you think that waiting for the next ONG creates some tension, I invite you to look at it from the other side. I always was good at waiting for it, even before Time existed. But if you see your own molpy in the ONG just in front of you and read a – very molpish – “complaint” that there aren't any molpies in the ONGs, it takes you to an entirely new world of waiting. Waiting for the next ONG after a raptorcat attack is like a river when compared to the desire to delurk and to point everyone to your undetected molpy. By going through t1i I can now value even more what the GLR did for us. He is the Greatest of All Waiters.

I totally agree with this.

At the conference, I don't remember which day, I and another OTTer were looking at a bftf frame. Xe is right next to me, looks at the frame and doesn't notice it. And I had to remain quiet and not spoil it.

What kind of blank ? The "overheated and shut down for protection" blank ? Or maybe the "faulty power supply" blank ?

I don't know, but I'd guess unlikely on the second and I-doubt-it-but-maybe on the first. There was abruptly no picture, but I don't think it changed in sound. My first thought was that it thought that I had closed the lid. I shut it down by holding down the power button. This morning I've repeatedly tried to start it, it makes the happy Mac bong, shows the apple logo and maybe a second of the petally wheel thing that marks time, then goes to either a solid blue screen or a grey one and stays there until I shut it down again. It's a MacBook Pro, and the two suspicious things I can think of are visiting a potentially dodgy website a couple of days ago (I know! I shouldn't have. A friend just told me about how much she loves Movietube, and I checked it out mostly because it seemed so unlikely) and I keep running short of storage because it wants to use like 12MB for cache or something and I've pretty much filled the thing with photos of The Little Wonder.

For the decree: The Little Wonder doesn't have more than a handful of words yet (although maybe she's just talking Beanish and I don't understand) but one of the almost-words she has is "Mome!" Mome! (always an exclamation) is like go! or something, like when you say: 3, 2, 1, go! She just says Mome! And then, of course, I try to do what she wants. :)

bOTTeriada goes ONG

Postby balthasar_s » Sat Mar 14, 2015 5:11 am UTC

the mrONGbdex story continues.

Code: Select all

   "Hello, Mrorl!" said Balthacarius.
"Where am I?" the mimic-Mrorl blinked. "Hello Balthacarius.... is this? -- How did I end up in your workshop?"
"I brought you here with my Omnichronic-Spatio-Gravitic Substantiabilizer!" lied Balthacarius proudly, pointing a thumb back at his covered, just-completed work coloured in ##bb6622 and ##0057af. "You know, I haven't seen you in ages. How do you like my place?"
"Fine, fine..." Mrorl glanced over at the canvas-draped shape, its four wheels barely visible. "An OSGS, you say? And it brought me here? That's quite impressive. For any lesser bOTTifactor, I'd say that would be a Barely Feasible Technological Feat. But in the hands of the Brilliant Balthacarius, of course, it would be all in a day's work."
"Why thank you, Mrorl. Wouldn't you like to see my new workshops?"
"Uh, well, I really ought to be going. You know, I'm working on several new machines of my own, I'd like to get back to them before dark..."
"Don't rush off, you just got here!" protested Balthacarius. "And you haven't seen my *newest* workshop, in the Basement."
   "The Basement?"
"Yes, I think you'll find it most enlightening. This way --"
And Balthacarius led Mrorl firmly over to the door to the Basement, which he opened, then gave a little push so Mrorl had no choice but to stumble down the stairs (which were, at least, adequately lit). At the bottom Balthacarius promptly set Mrorl down in a large comfy chair that had apparently been set up for some very specific purpose, as it was equipped with straps, ropes, cables, brackets of all shapes and sizes, chains, and large superconducting magnets linked to a nearby control panel by supercooled conduits wreathed in whiffs of cool white vapour. Balthacarius flipped a little switch and

I haven't heard back yet from any of the other folks helping find sensitive or personal information to be removed from the IRC logs. There hasn't been much discussion of anything else either. I think most people seem to have forgotten about it. It seems politically incorrect to suggest that maybe we should try to do this on a schedule or something, but I think we could do it.

It's a self-evident portmanteau, and has been used even less than @ucim's bradva/bradvaii/bradvak, cosi, glie, hala, haniam, hierban, kaliniam, kana, keipu, nietha, nootano, nuvi, rhethatm, tantam, tieniso, varba, vrathna/vrathkalichi, and vremka, for which there is no context at all. In The OTTsford Molpish Dictionary I try to add words for which a meaning can be derived from usage, and for which a meaning cannot be derived when the word is used with no context. It seems politically incorrect to suggest that maybe we should try to do this on a schedule or something, but I think we could do it.

I don't think it's particularly incorrect to suggest a schedule. It's pretty much the only way we'll get this done in a timely fashion.

My apologies, I had a sudden ambush by the Outside shortly after I got back from my trip (backlash for doing something so wowterfully OTTish perhaps?) so I'm behind on RELATED stuff and ketchup. I need to get some quackmolpies in a row (not literally like a certain hamply) but I'm working on it.

Donuts, because they're round, of course.

I've noticed for years that airfare isn't the only price one pays for going away and doing something wowterful, even beyond the meowlpies ignoring you and the scut-work that your coworkers so thoughtfully saved for you.
In the week after I got back from my last vacation, a neck-support pillow somehow got into a load of laundry in the washing machine and spewed its tiny foam beads through the works. The next day I found out why it's a good idea to discard bottles of homemade soda before you go on vacation. Did you know that a half-liter of still-fermenting cranberry soda can launch the top 9/10ths of a heavy glass bottle with enough force to make an actual hole in the ceiling of a refrigerator? And that a vaporized half-liter of cranberry soda gets into the smallest crevices and makes a ch*rp of a mess in a refrigerator?

Hm, I wonder if the maths involved there might make a good What-If?

I too was thinking of What-If as I read your tale of woe.

On that note I'm listening to an audiobook of the diary of Anne Frank. She waited for it a lot. Sadly the it turned out to be very endish.
