SPARROW-RAPTORSES DON'T GROW ON BAOBABSES.

Postby lmjb1964 » Mon Aug 31, 2015 8:48 pm UTC

Ah, got it. I was going to ask you for some winning lottery numbers.
ETA: Pope again? Oh dear.

Decree: Give me some winning lottery numbers! Or just a winning ticket, that would be fine.

That could make more sense if you did it before buying the lottery ticket.

I passed just in front of a Polish consulate today. They have a nicely decorated wooden door.

No, those look like fine numbers. I'm sure at one time or another they've all been winners.

Although our lottery only goes up to 40-something, so some of those numbers wouldn't be so lucky for me.

Good luck on the new EFS, Neil! I hope it's molpish.

Re. lottery numbers: you could try the good old 4-8-15-16-23-42, but then you risk some unmolpishness afterwards.

lmjb1964 wrote:Good luck on the new EFS, Neil! I hope it's molpish.
Seconded!

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but did anyone notice the JavaScript? Time and t1i ONGed at the proper rate take 8626 hoursH to complete (sans the three one-off post-**D t1i frames). That's interesting because it's very nearly 1 yip. That means you can have Time throughout the yip (as my MTA wallpaper kindly provides), take a five-dip holidip, and repeat!

Very clever Balty! I would have done the opposite - required a password (which would be published in the OTT). But your method is much more wingish.

Here are some lottery numbers: 45-38-22 If you win the lottery, you might need them for self defense. :) But maybe not - a million dollars doesn't buy what it used to!

Happy FF Neil!

Aluisio - were those dots perhaps "safety hats"? Now that would be scary!

No problem, we'll call in the teams from RAZOR. You know what they say, we're from the government and we're here to help.

Thanks for all the winning numbers, everymolpy! I had to look up what some of them meant. SBN and DrSamCarter, if I do work out the time travel thing, I'll be set! Anyway, if any of the numbers end up being lucky (but not Lucky) I'll buy you a beer or something. Or a trip to the Chateau d'If. Depends on how lucky they are.

That's treeish to know, Link. Maybe we should create a Daily Diply Time 365 desk calendar. A Time of the Dip calendar! Hm, and each page could have some juicy quotes from the OTT that relate to it. I kind of like that idea.

Edited to remove heretical terms.

Re: If I know anyone who might be interested, it's OTTers

Postby Tatiana » Tue Sep 01, 2015 7:32 pm UTC

I just made this Memrise course to help me learn the Deseret Alphabet, and I thought if I know anyone else in the world who might be interested in this, it's OTTers, particularly the linguists who worked on Beanish, so I unbasemented to post it here.

http://www.memrise.com/course/763771/deseret-alphabet/

The Deseret Alphabet was invented by the Latter-day Saints in Utah in the 1800s for help in spelling and writing the English language for the large groups of immigrants who were gathering to Zion there, and to save time and effort in educating children, so that they might advance more quickly. It never really caught on and when Brigham Young died, the project faded away. It's now learned by historians, hobbyists, and linguists purely for fun.

Some of the cool things about it:

1. You spell words exactly like they sound, and there's one letter per phoneme, one to one correspondence.

2. It preserves the way words were pronounced at the time and place they were written, so we give language historians that extra information they love so much.

3. Uppercase and lowercase look exactly the same. Uppercase is just slightly larger. So that's super easy.

4. Practically nobody knows this weird thing even exists. This is arcane knowledge here, and super fun for sending secret messages.

5. These symbols are actually part of the IPA code system, but I haven't yet figured out how to get them on my keyboard or to show up in Notepad or Microsoft Word or on duolingo posts. If anyone does figure this out, please let me know! I want to be able to type in secret code too!

If anyone else uses this, please let me know. Enjoy! =D (If always, if you find any mistakes or difficulties, please tell me so I can fix them.)

Link wrote:Time and t1i ONGed at the proper rate take 8626 hoursH to complete […] nearly 1 yip […] take a five-dip holidip, and repeat

I count 3094 Time frames, where the first 240 are ONGed every shortpix and the rest once per longpix (and not counting the Meteor frames in order to keep to the spirit of "at the proper rate"), plus 1414 t1i frames also at one per longpix. Convertingf to dips, I get (3094-(240/2)+1414)/24 = about 182.8 dips to ONG the whole thing. That's 1/2 yip. How do you get 1 yip without doubling something? (Your 8626 would be about 359.4 dips, but 2×(3094-(240/2)+1414)/24 is about 365.7, so it isn't even exactly double :? )

 — mrob27 Image

fFormula explanation:
3094 frames would take 3094 hours,
… but the first 240 frames were only 1/2 hour each, so we need to subtract 240 half-hours, i.e. we need to subtract 240/2
so Time took about 3094-(240/2) hours
Not counting those three extras, there were 1414 t1i frames, numbered t1i-0000 through t1i-1413 (see mscha's list)
That adds up to (3094-(240/2)+1414) hours, and we divide by 24 to get days.

IIRC, t1i was ONGed every 4 longpix, which would make the total duration (3094-120)/24 + 1414/6 = 359.58333... dips.
Wait on.

Thank you @ZoomanSP, that of course is the answer. The t1i number is what needs to be doubled, in fact it needs to be doubledoubled :D
So now I have (3094-(240/2)+1414×4)/24 which is the same as what you said, about 359.6 dips. Maybe the extra time can be filled in with epilogue frames.

I've put the one-off frames at 8-longpix intervals after T** **D of t1i now (Waiting for it for 8 longpix seems a bit molpier than the several mips in the correct interval -- plus this way I can fit it in a yip), but I guess I could throw some epilogue in there.

Has anyone ever tried to attach non-images to a post anywhere in the forums?
I've done some research and we seem to be the ones who talk most about them in recent history.

There's a bunch of .ogg and .mp3 files in this FaiD thread, so yes, non images can be attached.

The spell seems to have worked. I am sorry for not being here, guys, and I am really, really, really sorry for calling of the speech on Beanish back in February, in an extremely short notice (to say the least...). You know, personal stuff.

I will try to resume my work on Beanish, from time to time ideas popped up in my head. I have checked the OTT and apparently haven't missed anything asked directly at me, but if I did, please ask one more time. There were some doubts about the posts on the pronunciation of Beanish, but they are not ordered or dependent one upon the other. They were just hypothesis (and not very good ones) in the scientific sense, grouped by a common title.

And now, let's decipher this thing! :D
My blog on Beanish: https://beanishlang.wordpress.com/
Beanish corpus on Github: https://github.com/tresoldi/beanish/blob/master/corpus.txt
If you want to ask me anything, feel free to send a private message or comment on my blog, I might miss it on the topics (particularly on the OTT ;))

Throughout all publicly-readable areas of these fora, I found all of those; here is my (incomplete) list: XLS/XLSX, DOC/DOCX, PDF, RAR, ZIP, TGZ, GZ, 7Z, MP3, WMA, ODS. Looking at randomly-selected examples, I learned that the fora include discussions on many topics, including love, math, sarcasm, and language (not necessarily in that order).
