Hi all, and thanks for all the news!

My hair's doing well. Had to trim a little around my ears.
Been very busy programming a better replacement for my GrapevineGrapevine chat system. Currently I'm calling it GrapeChannel. It uses a new technology called Django Channels. It's mostly pretty molpish, but has been soaking up a lot of time!

There's a bunch of movie titles in Sandcastle Builder. In the Bag Puns section.

Per-Decree:

Spider Bites are Good.
Anecdotal Evidence:
Spoiler:
I'm, kind of, a sickly one.
Every community seems to have at least one.

I was going along, as usual, when I was bitten by a Black Widow Spider.
I had not taken proper precautions. I became even More ill and sickly.

The symptoms were classic.
I rode them out, like a flu.

I have, on-hand, every medication the hospital could or would use to ease symptoms;
With the exception of anti-venom and intravenous fluids.

As I recoverd from the Spider Bite, I felt better than I have felt in Ages!
A Black Widow Spider Bite makes a sick person feel better! (if they live.)

On a more serious side;
Spider and snake venom is being explored by
little pharmaceutical researchers in Real Life.

Go! All you little pharmaceutical researchers! Go!
Everyone else, take chemistry, to learn respect.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_venom
Snake:(I was not bitten by a snake)
Spoiler:
Given that snake venom contains many biologically active ingredients, some may be useful to treat disease.

For instance, Phospholipases type A2 (PLA2s) from the Tunisian vipers Cerastes cerastes and Macrovipera lebetina has been found to have anti-tumor activity. Anti-cancer activity has been also reported for other compounds in snake venom.

Phospholipases A2 hydrolyze phospholipids and thus could act on bacterial cell surfaces, providing novel antimicrobial (antibiotic) activities.

The analgesic (pain-killing) activity of many snake venom proteins has been long known.
The main challenge, however, is to deliver protein to the nerve cells as proteins usually are not applicable as pills.

Spider:(beware: link has auto audio adverts.
Spoiler:
Another recent study found that 7 different compounds in spider venom could potentially be used to help people with chronic pain too. Researchers analyzed 206 different spider species, and found that 40 percent of the venoms had compounds that blocked nerve activity linked to chronic pain.

The Other Comic touched on the subject of Fungi.
It is Mushroom Season in the Pacific NorthWest.

One Long Dry Summer + 2 Weeks of Seemingly Endless Rain + One Day Warm Sun = Explosions of Fruiting Bodies!
Washington's Olympic Peninsula has the most mushrooms I have ever seen; Both in variety and in individuals.

Many look like human body parts.
Often the most embarrassing parts.
https://www.google.com/search?q=weird+m ... art=0&sa=N

True Story:
Spoiler:
I went camping with a California Girl and her boyfriend in the Olympic Peninsula.
After three days her temper flared, she said, "Why The Fuck is it Still! Raining!??"

I told her, "Because we are in a Rain Forest."
She yelled, "Rain Forests are in South America!!"

That was a college educated woman.
She was also a damp and unhappy girl.

I recommend Armchair Tourism.

I've been trapped in the basement for about a week with more mustard than a Jewish deli.

A friend and I were replacing windows and doors down there, and upon removing the old slider, I found that the beams were rotted and termite-eaten. It was old damage; there are no termites in the sandcastle. Also the support for the joists and such is the cinderblock, not the beams (which are just a jury-rigged studs for the old aluminum slider), so I wasn't in any danger of having my entire domain succumb to gravity. But, I clearly had to re-frame the area before I could put in the new sliding glass doors. We did this, night fell, and we still couldn't fit the (door) frame in properly (and also ran out of sealant).

Ch*rp!

So, with a gaping hole in the basement, we couldn't really leave our abode. Bags or no bags, "finding out" would have to wait. Nextdix was going to be rainy (and cold - New England Almost November), so I covered the hole with some plastic from an old pool cover, and held it down with some wood beams, and covered the hole from the inside with the paneling we had taken down from the basement (but saved - I save everything until the voldeframe - you never know!).

The dix following I didn't have any help, but managed to get the frame out and in the daylight was able to see the rest of the mustard. The beams were not lined up properly in the original construction, so when I had put the new beams in (where they had to go based on those joists), nothing fit right. So I spent the day making six foot long shims and other fiddly pieces to compensate for the condiments we'd been living in and got the door frame to fit.

Dix after that (still with a gaping hole in our sandcastle) I pre-stained the door panels as my assistant wasn't available until the following dix, which was yesterdip, when the two of us did manage to get the frame in place, seal it, and put the door panels in. Yeah, it was dark by the time we finished, but at least it's done. There's still outside sheathing to do, but we can close the door again!

It does occur to me however that the OTT could remove the basement door and maybe the trapped OTTers would return. It's risky though; somebody has to go into the basement to do it, and there might be mustard.

There Might be Mustard is the B-and-a-half side of VHF's other three sided record.

So, a few pages to reketchup (I've been peeking); I saw that our Mighty Troubadour has popped in with something that I must pre-order. And there's a decree about movie titles we have. Was it Eternal Density who proposed?

Sadly it looks like my Sandcastle Builder game has ground to a halt. Seems that past NP7000 or so, the browser just get incredibly slow playing the game :(

Looks like I'm off to California again early next year. Hopefully the pound will be worth more than 1 cent by then!

Hey BytEfLUSh! Great to see you around these parts again! How's the basement? I think it's getting a bit too... comfy, if you know what I mean. :)

The weather-changing aspect was the most interesting thing in that video - never thought of it, but in retrospect, quite obvious. Single point of failure, well, I think we all realize that one!

Oh! Jose!
Yey! You!

Remodeling/Remuddling can be so much fun.
You have a home secure from the elements.

And; You did it with help from your friends.
Three Cheers for your friends!

Today was a Good Day.
I blame the weather.

It was a perfect Fall Day.
Bright sunlight and crisp cool air.
The forests are scented with myrtle, cedar, fir and pine.

Today, the smell of damp mosses, mushrooms, leaves and
earth overpower the smell of the scented trees and herbs.

Yey! for Good Days.
Spoiler:
I've had Bad Days.
Days when a little cloud followed me everywhere.
The summer sun could not penetrate the gloom.

Apart from Forum Games, mostly active on the One True Thread.
If you need help understanding what's going on there, the xkcd Time Wiki may be useful.

Addams thanks all of us who helped. Her life is much better now.

Rakhal, what part of California are you going to?

ETA: Finally watched the video about Atlantropa. I did not one error in the video. He said that the land created would be salt flats, not much use for anything. We all know that's not true. It's very good for building sandcastles.
