Yay, Soup! Nice to see you!

One of my favorite holiday celebrations (Christmas being my holiday of choice) is a Christmas tree, but since I usually go back east for Christmas, I never get one. This year I planned to get one since we're just going to LA for a few days, but I haven't actually gotten around to buying one yet. Derp.

I also love to carol, but i haven't done that for a while either. And bake cookies, but I haven't done that for year. Man, I suck at holidays. I did decorate my office.

ETA Thanks for the Time Drags On link, balthasar. It just plays for me; I try using the arrow keys on it, and try clicking and dragging, and nothing happens. :( azule, are you out there, but any chance?

Well, you managed to enter "b" so we can stick to that.
Or we can just continue calling him "that guy".

Of course, you may have Quail.
But; They don't come in Ones.

Quail come in covey.
Spoiler:
A group of quail is called a covey.
A covey generally consists of 12 or more birds.
They walk or run along the ground together.
I think a Covey of Quail would be lovely Christmas Tree decorations.

They look a little like a Partridge.

The Partridge does not have the darling little top knot feathers.
The California Quail does have this added fashion flare. (cute)

It will be a lovely Tree.

Oh GnomeAnne, I am so sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck for it to go smoothly so you can get to your family as quickly as possible. Also, I admire your fix-it-ness.

addams - those quail are indeed cute! And it turns out I can buy them here for $23 a head. Alas, as lovely as they'd look on my tree, I suspect they'd prefer a larger habitat.

On my tree are the best Christmas balls that $3/15 can buy! Also, some candy canes made of pipe cleaners. And, there are also 5 legit ornaments - one for each of the Little Wonder's five Christmases - a gift of my amazing Aunt Helen. The latest one features Tigger and Roo, hanging on a little bouncy spring. :)

My time budgeting has gotten worse. I was supposed to make 2-3 hundred cookies and deliver them to my friends tonight. I've made less than half of that and it's too late to deliver anything. It's 5am, there's light in the East, and the birds are singing. I'm going to bed. I'll figure it out in the morning.

A few years ago I made a post about Christmas traditions in my country Germany in general which I'm taking the liberty to link to again. (For reference, "this year" in the context of that post refers to 2012, the year the original text was posted in another forum, and the year with unusual loads of snow for Christmas was 2010. This year 2016, as usual, the weather for Christmas once more is fairly mild and snow-less here.)

I'm spending a quiet Christmas with my Mum and am looking forward to some of her delicious cooking. In disregard of German holiday food traditions, dinner tonight will be salmon; there will be a turkey tomorrow. This afternoon I decorated our Christmas tree - which, in complete and utter defiance to general German tradition, but true to a twenty-odd-year-old tradition in our family, is not a fir or pine, but a potted orange tree that has been kept in the living room all that time, having originally been grown from a pip.

Please excuse me for being late to the decree.

I have, for many a Christmas, celebrated by planting bulbs.
I skipped last year, I was not feeling well enough to walk.

This year I will be planting Gladiolus.
I have enough for two medium pots.

I harvested these bulbs from last years garden.
I have had a plan brown paper bag in the refrigerator for months and months.

Yes! Of course, it was labeled, Gladiolus!
Today, Christmas Eve Day, they are segregated onto two plates on the kitchen counter.
Tomorrow, taking Fair Winds for granted, I will place them in soil. Then....I will...

Postby mrob27 » Sun Dec 25, 2016 6:00 am UTC

As you may have noticed, my bOTTeriada story has taken to ONGing in a more raptorish fashion. That's because, indeed, the intersession has begun and I had a chance to finally finish the next chapter.
 Inasmuch as the present chapter (The Challenge of King Idle) has been ONGing since the 10th of June … 2015… you'd be forgiven if you have no idea what the story is about1. After the chapter is finished, which will be pretty soon now, I'll post the whole thing in a single message, with formatting.
 Happy Christmas!

So s=17 means that > and || are pressed.
Numbers that don't make sense physically are interpreted as 0 or 1.
The button image file names match their state values but they are hexadecimal.

I reckon It's referring to MSCHA's enhancement software that revealed otherwise invisible raptors and trebuchets, but I could be wrong.
Also, I did not do the yes hopefully.

First of all, that's the "record" button, you idiot. But I'm curious what plans, if any, Balthazar had for it. Did you include the depressed button image just for completeness? Or would it have become a button under different conditions? Did adding the underscore just remove the top half of the image regardless of which button it was? What triggered the different types of interference?

Did anyone try to press record and play simultaneously by using a bit-wise “or” of their respective bits?

I won't try that out by myself now since the system is running now, and, you know, never change a running system.

I didn't think to try that until after bstart, once bsta was activated, the buttons no longer worked. Balthazar implied that the tape interface would be used again, presumably the record button will work at that point.

I got the bright idea I was going to put on another layer or two of clothing,
grab my walking stick and wander out there to find out what was so light.

As I started to get more dressed, I remembered;
Not only is it Really, Really Cold out there;
We have big fucking Cats and they hunt in the glomming.

I've told you these Cats hunt single hikers, joggers and bicyclists.
Time; I don't lie to you. It's true. They do. I'd have been Cat bate.

Luckily (pun not intended) you had a thwapstick with you, just in case!
And say hi to your quails from me!

Also, new OtherComic.

Happy holidips everymolpy!
Wait on.

I think one of the three small circles is a stop watch,
What do the other two do? Or; Not do? If they don't.
Thanks! The top and bottom circles together are a stopwatch, along with the long, thin black hand: the top circle measures elapsed 1/20th of a secondH; the long, thin black hand measures elapsed secondsH, and the bottom circle measures elapsed minutesH and hoursH. The circle on the left contains only the normal secondH hand and is not part of the stopwatch.

So yeah, I can now

Also thanks for the Table of Contents info. :) I think my problem might have come from me being confused about what defines a heading and what's just font-size. I'll have to get straight on that sometime....

That's actually quite simple: headings of different levels are included between equality symbols in the source text.

Code: Select all

== Level 2 heading ==
=== Level 3 heading ===
==== Level 4 heading ====

You could also add level 1 headings by hand in the obvious way, but you never need to do that because level 1 is by convention reserved for the title of the page itself, and the corresponding heading is added automatically by the wiki software.

the mr*bdex story cONGtinues.

Code: Select all

 unlike that used to restrain the great bOTTifactors, and shall receive a daily allowance of stale chocolate, which chocolate shall be conveyed by a mode of delivery to be determined later, at Balthacarius' discretion.
  Sixth and lastly, The King need not crave forgiveness of Their Most Molpish and Baobabby bOTTifactors on bended knee, since he is evidently not worthy.
  In Witness Whereof, the parties shall hereunto set their hands and seals, &&c. and so on. By: Mrorl and Balthacarius, bOTTifactors; the Grand Commisioner of Inquisitorobots, the Minister of Royal Intelligence, the Chief of Hotdog Engineers, the Master of Royal Hodoggery, the Grand Warden of the Royal Game Preserve, the Decryptor-General, and the Royal Ch**rping Ninja Tortoise Carriage Drivers' Union Leader.
  The ministers turned blue, but what choice had they? Work on the ship was begun immediately, which the bOTTifactors showed up to supervise personally. Nothing quite suited them: This Discovery Detector should be where the Lightning Rod is, and vice versa; this hold should be equipped with Stretchable Block Storage; the exterior detailing should be Fireproof, and applied personally by a Dragon Queen. In Time the ship was ready, and the requested cargo loaded. Meanwhile most of the Royal Intelligence Ministry, along with the military and the local police, were secretly running all about the kingdom, searching and inspecting everything they could think of, much to the amusement of Mrorl and Balthacarius, who passed the time explaining to the fearful but fascinated Idlean citizens how it all happened, how they had discarded one hotdog design after another, until they hit on the perfect combination, custom-tailored for King Idle himself, patents applied for. Not knowing where to put the game logic, they had simply made nothing at all logical, so that the Flux Turbine might be a level-up for the Bone Clicker and the Soul Drain might unlock the <*:Blixtnedslag Kattungar, JA!:> -- or vice-versa -- or both -- or neither; and nomolpy would be the wiser because none, even Mrorl and Balthacarius themselves, would know which was the case. As far as the details went, they had only to find the proper universe from which to draw game

Gee, they really look more different (from each other) in that photo than I generally think of them.

They really do. They are both pretty typical looking Newfies, but very different. LW has the floofy fur, MSW has the sleek fur. MSW is on the small side. (LW we keep thin to help his joints, but he's not small.) I'm often surprised that people will ask how I tell them apart. Not that I don't call them by the wrong name, but I know which one I mean.

You also wonder if this is at least going to be RELATED.
He doesn't know either.
How could he possibly know?

The ong clock is nearly sixteen seconds different from the forum clock, making Ong times below twenty seconds impossible.

Heheh - I do that too, but this time I was quite slack. I even stopped to admire 00:00:NG on the countdown before I clicked over to the current frame.

I think the last two were 40. This one's 41! I can't help but suspect that these times are for us to use somehow. After all, we know that this frame had already been drawn on September 11....

Postby mrob27 » Tue Dec 27, 2016 7:40 pm UTC

OMCR, it seems someone on the Moonbase is Baltifying Homestuck :D Might I guess this was revealed in some non-obvious puzzle-like manner? I guess I'll have to do some Ketchup. Or triplexed3 schizo-Blitzing, as the case may be. Hmmm…

lmjb1964 wrote: mrob, I would love to have your story as a whole. I'm afraid I have lost track.

Yep, as Balthacarius said, there's a handy link to the whole story. Admittedly, it's in an obscure markup language so you may prefer to wait a few more dips, when that story will have finished ONGing, for at that point I'll post it here formatted properly, i.e. much friendlier for your MTAs and what have you.

They're all great, but I think I've enjoyed this bOTTeriada story the most. I thought I was hanging on every word, until it slowed down to like literally... every... word... and then I had to admit that I was actually hanging on every sentence. I'm so happy it's back.
