[quote="ggh"]mrob - thank you so much for adding those to the wiki page! I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed this past week. (It's not really justified - I'm not especially busy.)

There are a few that need small tweaks to be complete:
Spoiler:
these are references to specific OTTers:
  • otter C,8
  • MyFavoritePony Friendship is Magic U,4 (hint: not so much an OTTer (just stopped by for cake) but currently looks like Lucky)
  • baobab (wowtree) A,7
  • Latent22 (?) X,9-10 (this is someone else)

Also,
  • the other kittens (R-S,8) of this - gingercat S,7-8 (other kittens nearby) reference a specific OTTwork
  • the trebuchet was just a trebuchet (sadly, I couldn't really see into the future to GnomeAnne), and
  • those G,13 cupcakes belong, not to azule, but to another nearby, not-yet-listed OTTer

Here's some um...answers to that.
Spoiler:
The rainbow dash head may be patzer's. She used that image before but you might want to look for an orange Klein bottle too.
The wowtree is Edo.
For cupcakes you probably want Valarya.
The blue peacock-cat at E6.5 is Vytron's profile. I also used that for a period of about 48 hours while playing forum games and not being a duck...er, googly-eyed dinobird.

Indeed, and I was shocked to see that hadn't yet appeared in bOTTeriada. Mustard on my part, which has now been busted.

I thought it was an Archeops. A very nice number you selected too, 3×7×27 = 34(3+4) = 567.

Hmmm, implied decree … help figure out more of the Find Each OTTer puzzle?

Nice!
Spoiler:
In the case of U,4, the pony isn't patzer, but that's good info for elsewhere.
The rest is spot-on.
I didn't know that about you using Vytron's avatar. Treeish that a shade of you is sorta in there too like GnomeAnne's trebuchet.

Yes, new frames.
There are some of the newest frames that I'm really proud of.
And now I have to wait so long until you will see them!
In bftf I also started with having multiple frames prepared but I quickly ran out of them.
So it became typical that many frames were drawn 1 or 2 weeks before being onged if I remember this correctly.
Once I even uploaded some frames in the last hour.

Now the frame rate is much lower because I'm not able to do this faster. I would like to keep the frame rate in the range of 30 - 40 hours but I'm having too much outside.
This automatic ongrate adjustment is a nice thing but it lets you know exactly how many frames I have.
And one day I will upload the final frame.
The current algorithm is not prepared for this.
There are multiple ways of dealing with it. I don't know which one I will choose.

Did you know that I actually wanted the "BB" link to be on the right side?
Image
That's because it belongs to different category than those three. Actually, I'm planning to add other things there, not only BB.
But I couldn't find a good way to have left- and right-aligned text in the same line.
Maybe I'm not familiar enough with some html/css tricks?

I remembered that the otherothercomic had left- and middle-aligned text.
I go there to check and no, it doesn't.
They just put some &nbsp;s there:

balthasar_s wrote:I couldn't find a good way to have left- and right-aligned text in the same line.

I use this:

Code: Select all

 <p class="a">
    <span style="float:left">Left-justified and</span>
    <span style="float:right">right-justified on same line</span>
 </p>

You can see an example in context (i.e. as part of an entire webpage) here on my RHTF test page.
Not a spoiler, but of limited interest:
Spoiler:
In case you're curious, the RHTF source for that page is included at the bottom of the page (Including the commands that cause it to include its own source! :D ).
The float:left and float:right styles can be defined as style symbols, using "define style symbol" commands:

  dss[%|float:left] dss[&|float:right]

then the formatting itself is simply:

  %Left-justified and% &right-justified on same line&

There are a limited number of symbols available as style symbols, so it then immediately undefines the style symbols so they return to their default styles. If a line consists entirely of RHTF commands like dss[…], that line and adjacent blank lines are ignored, so the resulting webpage doesn't have extra unwanted whitespace.
This sort of thing is probably the biggest reason why I created my own markup language and tools to convert to/from it.
In order to write this post, I had to enhance my OTT posting tool (which converts RHTF to BBCode) to treat double "||" as a literal "|". It already does that for %, $, @, and a lot of others. This sort of thing happens a lot, I've made more ongoing work for myself, when simply using the existing tools (BBCode formatting buttons and preview) might take a lot less Tim. But I've used these tools for four yips now, so… othercomic 974, anyone?

I can't see what you did, did you change it back right away?
I think the problem might be that you put everything inside the float style tags.
I don't think any float:left is needed, because that's usually what happens by default. My example may have been misleading in that respect.
If you really want all of the links to have an explicitly-defined floating justification, then try having at least one (printable) character of text that is not in a float: tag of any kind. Maybe just a dot "." at the end of the row of links. If you want it to be invisible, try matching the text colour to the background. Then (I think) it will see that there is some non-floating text and include it in the overall height calculation.

They no longer have writings on them.
The worse confusion is when you edit instead of quoting.
This way I destroyed one of my blitzreports once.
But I could recreate it.

Always preview before submitting a post.
If you see a quote around everything you will know something is wrong.
This works for me.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one this happens to since the Great Migration. I most frequently m*stard it up when I'm trying to sneakedit my latest post to the OTT and inadvertently quote myself instead. Then I panic and rush to delete the redundant quotepost before another OTT post gets added and I lose the ability to delete. It's a rarer thing these dips to have many OTTers simultaneously posting, but it happens enough that I still worry (and look, there's a previewninja now)!

No, this is something I want to avoid.

My brief Google search found a Maori supernatural being and "Cheap, high alcohol-content wine made from any combination of at least two types of fruit, usually wild." I suppose you could have the second one for breakfast, but neither of those seem to be something that you would cook. :?:

Nah, I'm still comfortable with shipping them if we get to be her next.

Hmm, Punga could be those things too... I was thinking of it as the fern. I ate some once at the Wildfoods Festival (the place where I tried all those testicles) but it was a bit bland. But in fairness, I think they had been selling different preparations and the tastier ones had sold out by the time I got to that booth.

No. While that would be quite adventurous, I'm not the type to do that. I had more lmjb's first meaning in mind.

As a general note, if my post titles make sense, I've done something wrong.
But I still sparked a discussion, hey.

This works.
But the links are now ignored when determining the dimensions of the <div>s they are in.
Wouldn't this be the case for a clearfix (there are a bunch of versions floating around, depending on what you intend to support) or a flexbox or grid layout (for modern stuff—though grid is not that new)?

I went to find out what this clearfix is.
I found some text to read, and links to more texts.
After reading some of it my conclusion is that thre is something very very wrong about all this.

More on the topic of shipping.
When I returned from Bochum I made a shocking discovery that my mther can be shipper.
After I returned home, of course everyone was curious and I had to answer many questions.
One of her first questions was if there were any girls.
This should have made me suspicious but it didn't.
I was telling about what we were doing, who was there and so on.
She found out about BlitzGirl (and others too).

Another day, before I was leaving home again.
I was talking with her about some things.
At some point I noticed that:
She was trying to ship me with BlitzGirl.
Until she realised that this is not realistic.
Later, the same day, she switched to a different ship (unrelated).
I was not prepared for this at all.

ETA: And, of course, this is my 2000th post.

Most mothers have a seaish interest in shipping their children! (I've seen fathers do it, too.) My brother, cousins and I have all been subject to it at some point from my family. It can get pretty embarrassing! Image

That's because it belongs to different category than those three. Actually, I'm planning to add other things there, not only BB.
But I couldn't find a good way to have left- and right-aligned text in the same line.
Maybe I'm not familiar enough with some html/css tricks?

It's probably been at least two yips (!?) since I last did any serious mucking about in HTML/CSS, but my first instinct would be to create a full-width div, then create two inside it aligned horizontally, where the first is sized to fit its contents and the second is sized to take up the rest of the space. Then set the text alignment property on the div level.
In a comically tragic turn of events, Addams didn't die. You can help her here.

Good luck to all the Blitzers out there!

Yes, you are right. Let's just say that certain aspects of HTML and CSS are... er... "still evolving". It's not totally ch*rpy though; there are reasonable reasons for some of the fishishnicity; it comes down to "what would you hope would happen if you {something CSS}", and the answer is different for different circumstances. They had to pick one.

There should be explicit ways to do {many things} but that didn't happen. So we're stuck with <computery tricks> to get it to do that. And then, when CSS version {whatever's next} comes out, there will be an explicit way to do {some more things} but your user base probably won't be able to take advantage of it because you can't control what they view the content on. People still have older versions.

More specifically, the float tag removes the floated content from the flow, which is what you need if you want the other content to flow around the floated thing. It's kind of like a raftcastle, with the sea flowing around it. The sea does what it wants, and the raftcastle is no longer part of the sea. It's on the sea. (Or under the sea, if random chance has not operated in your favor). The sea no longer cares how big the raftcastle is. More annoyingly (for certain uses), the sea no longer cares where the bottom of the raftcastle is.

Floated content flows independently of non-floated content; both act like the sea. But one of them will run out of content before the other one does when you need to start a new part of the page. What then? Ordinary flowed content wins over floated content; if you want the floated content to win, you have to tell it. Alas, there's no way to do that.

You can trick it though. That's what the clearfixes are. It violates the separation of content from formatting rules, but that's why it's a trick.

And I'm rambling on... there's a much better explanation of floats here: http://css.maxdesign.com.au/floatutorial/

There's a much better explanation on why what looks like it's broken actually has some sense to it, but I don't have it handy. If you irk the full width justifications, faith will probably be rewarded. (This is one of those halting problem things.)

balthasar_s wrote:When I returned from Bochum I made a shocking discovery that my mother can be shipper.
As long as she's not a drop-shipper, it's touching and harmless. Remember, many shippers become mothers, and all of those mothers were once shippers. But if you find yourself in a mailbox with a postage stamp on your forehead and no return address, then maybe there's something to be concerned about!

Happy two thousand! Only 48 posts to go!

Re: clearfix&etc.
I do understand some of why the things are the way they are.
I really don't like doing things like this by tricks.

Luckily, in my case it should be enough if the right part is floated right and the left part is left like it was.

I agree. But at the moment my chronotransponder is ch*rped, so I can't go back in time and fix CSS. Or HTML, which singlehandedly has set the web back ten years. So, tricks it is. I just think of it as shipping the sea with a pretty big tree.

I moved the "BB" link to the right side of the viewer.
I also integrated the frame info interface (/bsta/i/) into the viewer (there is now also a /bsta/v?b=2 available).
I also outegrated the BBcode interface (/bsta/v/?b=1) out of the viewer (there is now also a /bsta/b available).
To reach it, just click the "BB" link once again.
