Newpage 2600 Beanish Repository

Postby BlitzGirl » Wed Jun 21, 2017 9:25 pm UTC

Past Edits:
Spoiler:
Edit 1: I have an idea for a repository to put here so I think I'll move my reply down to the next post. Baobabs, 2600 newpages!

Edit 2: I'm getting this set up, still very much a work-in-progress. Current snippets are from the wiki, originally uploaded by Zorin 75 - I thought I'd stick a redundant set here on the OTT since wikia mustards hotlinking. For the Time being, I'm just basically transferring over relevant bits of the Dialogue page scene by scene. I also tacked on my final Beanish Update for those single-symbol images, though it's quite outdated and needs a revamp at some point. I'm thinking too of adding the Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics transliterations from Tresoldi's blog for easier text-based copying. Anyway, a lot more to go, but this is the rough sketch for the repository.

Edit 3: Added links to mrob's article and the otherthread. Integrated speeches into existing dialogue sections along with tresoldi's transliterations (for which I shamelessly stole mrob's green coloring). Added context section with material from azule, ggh, and SinusPi. Also put in SinusPi's transliteration wordcloud. Credited pelrigg for the post header image.

ᔪ - Dialogue Snippets

Three versions of each Beanish speech are included: a crop of the sentence by Zorin 75 from the original newpix, a construction of the sentence made up of individual glyph images, and the latest Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics transliteration by tresoldi in green.
(work in progress, more crops to go.)

"Hit" with the meaning of "not miss", maybe?

Yes, the Lucky attack. That was when excitement and drama firmly got established as parts of the OTC plot that had seemed so absent back then on the beach.

There are probably multiple characters within most of BlitzGirl's groups, some of which are rotations or mirrors (or both) of each other.

Yeah, I should mention that those groups are rather...archaic at this point. That section was lifted whole from the last of the beanish updates and is four yips old. For more modern and accurate glyph groupings, I highly recommend the posts on tresoldi's blog. The current groupings in the repository are mostly aesthetic and simplified, so anybody can pick and choose what to copy to make their own beanish words.

I've been thinking about the absence of fish in the OTC. Fish wouldn't be able to live in a significantly hypersaline body of water, would they? At least they aren't in the Dead Sea, as far as I've managed to research (i.e. look up on Wikipedia).

True! Maybe there wasn't enough smallwater nearby to fish in for Cuegan's group, so fishish fish weren't a food staple. Cuegan only knew about one river, and it seemed to have cycles where it would dry up. But possibly the people in the hills, who lived upstream, had more fishing opportunities. Beanies and the people from the abandoned habitations probably fished even more than that.

Hmm... That makes sense.
I would imagine there'd be fish in the rivers coming from the plateau and the Alps, most notably the Rhone.
A bit difficult for the smaller fish once they dry up though. And yeah, hypersaline lakes are not conducive to fishing. Regular what-if readers will know about the declining water quality in the Salton Sea due to its increased salinity.

In other news, I got home and thus should be properly yappocized. But instead I'm yappocized in reverse, and woke up at 2:30 am local time.

I thought I did up until you said "if you know what I mean."

Relocate the name-thing

The what?

Ah, the scarf with your name on it.
You place it in your drawer.
It will be safe there.

Now, when you don't have to worry about names any more,
what will you do?

Huh, I'm funny.

Hey BlitzGirl, I don't know if you'd like this for your repository or not, but I have a compilation jpg that i'd print out from Time to Time and bring with me. I'd pull it out and stare at it when I had a free moment, though I haven't done that for a while.

rsinry?
redundant spoiler is not redundant yet?

Anyway, that picture kind of reminds my of the "szalony koniks" (a crazy comic) game, because of the rows of horizontally arranged panels.
In this game one person draws one panel of a comic, the other person draws the second one, and so on, the result is a silly story.
Also the panels are arranged in horizontal rows and that's why I thought of this.
I keep the results of all these games. I have many pieces of paper collected:

I guessed “redundant spoiler is not really redundant”.

You seem to have a knack for this kind of collaborative storywriting. Which reminds me…

Interesting! I think my only association of "knack" as a sound effect is with a children's song.

This old man, he played one,
He played knick-knack on his drum;
With a knick-knack paddywhack,
Give the dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

I'm generally more likely to read it as a synonym for "talent" than as onomatopoeia.

Ooh yes, I'll add that tonight! Thanks!

Yes, my Beanish translation article.
In particular, I strongly advise using the technique of exploring each alternate path of deduction, looking at the conclusions of each, comparing their relative consistency or absurdity; and then settling on the less absurd one.
I illustrate this by considering ᘊᒣᓭᐧᖊᔑ/ᒣᓭᐧᖊᔑ and ᘝᘊᓭᒣᖊᐣᖗ, which can be attacked two ways: interpret frame 2671 first and then frame 2792, or vice-versa. I show that the assumptions with the best results are those that lead to the interpretation "paste-of-yarrow" or "yarrowish medicine" for ᘊᒣᓭᐧᖊᔑ ᘝᘊᓭᒣᖊᐣᖗ.
I was going to continue deriving things bit by bit, and I did write headings and a brief summary of each section, but as usual I got busy with other things.
