I had to dig around to find out what this was about. A banner was added to the top of the xkcd main page encouraging people in the United States to contact their senators to encourage a position on a then-current debate. A Reddit thread (now locked) shows the banner and discusses its position. Later the Senate sort of did what xkcd was hoping for and the banner was changed to a "thank you" and a link to a summary of recent votes.

Maybe the hill people have a trade relationship with, and get their "stuff" from, the Beanies! This could explain why they have wood and other things, while as we've seen there aren't really big trees until most of the way out of the basin.

I can definitely see a trade relationship happening! There's kind of an open question of how far Beanish control extends. If they have that main city (or university town, considering that they are a culture of "learners") it is quite possible that Beanish people also lived in some of the lowlands Cuegan passed through, but had evacuated to higher ground because of the flood warning. The markings that Cuegan saw on the baobab (np1592) could have been Beanish. That would put the range of the civilization much closer to the hill people than the Chateau would be, and increase the likelihood of trading.

Something that I've been wondering now with the recent speculation about language is if the hill people spoke a language different from the Cueganites. In all of the talk about them, Cuegan never reference anything that was said by the hill people, just impressions that might be conveyed only by actions (yelling, throwing stuff, dislike, tossing things away). Rosetta in np2873 references another language she learned which is similar to Cuegan's Unglish, which could be whatever the hill people speak. (Possibly the Squarish in Amtoo's diagram.)

Whoa - I hadn't seen her posting lately and was wondering so I popped over here. Good!
There's a certain amount of freedom involved in cycling: you're self-propelled and decide exactly where to go. If you see something that catches your eye to the left, you can veer off there, which isn't so easy in a car, and you can't cover as much ground walking.

Oh yeah, that. I kinda forgot about that because I don't think anyone mentioned it. But yeah, I researched and found what I think was the correct one to link to if it was 2011. And I had to dig through my memories and figure out what I was working on for which FFS six yips ago.

Maybe,
but it's not easy doing this in the English language.
"Blitz the Thread" took about three weeks until it was ready.

I have already told it, but not here, on the OTT.
When I'm going somewhere alone on bike,
sometimes I'm humming or whistling something.
or singing.
But when I don't remember all the lyrics,
sometimes I make up different text which is not related to the original.

That seems difficult, given that every time someone posts, the reverse blitzer needs to start again from the **d. ;)

Anyhow, on the topic of shipping, I'm surprised I haven't linked this yet:

I imagine doing a backwards blitz (a ztlib?) would be very difficult, particularly with all of the quoting. You'd have to slog backwards through seaish quote chains in the earlier newpages, and by the time you've reached the beginning of the chain you might have read the initial query a dozen Times already.
