GnomeAnne wrote:@Mikrit, did you ever finish the project that the e**ish carpenter ch*rped up?

Well, yesterday I and Wife travelled to the cottage to meet Cottage Tenant and a real carpenter. He seemed very solid and reliable: third generation carpenter, together with his two brothers. They were recommended to me by someone who answered the phone on a really seaish construction firm that didn't want to do smallish projects like mine (they preferred to build an entire school etc). So we agreed that Real Carpenter should finish the project.

Now that I think about it, I could also have been a third generation carpenter. Well, hypothetically, so could we all. Except Adam and Eve and their children. And we could not all be third generation carpenters simultaneously because then we would have starved to death by now. Ahem. What I mean is that my grandfather and one of my uncles were carpenters. If there is an afterlife, I hope they have more enjoyable things to do than watching over me from a cloud, shaking their heads and saying "Tsk! Tsk!".

voip ovet tioc, sounds like a great idea.

How many layers that would be?

So he has a telephone, but wants a voip.
voip requires internet.
how to get internet outside?

Ok, let's make a phone call to a telephone at home.
a telephone which must be connected to a computer with internet access.
Then the connected computer must be somehow told (by DTMF for example) to start a VoIP connection and to forward that phone call through it.
So there is a phone call inside VoIP inside TCP/IP.
But we can't connect to TLF that way.
We have to use TIOC.
So there is a phone call inside a VoIP inside TCP/IP inside TIOC inside Coincidence.
But wait.
b's Coincidence connects to the server via the internet using TCP/IP.
So there is a phone call inside a VoIP inside TCP/IP inside TIOC inside Coincidence inside another TCP/IP on the Internet.
Yeah, seems right.

*looks at browsing users* Is it usual to have a rapid influx of 140+ anonymous guests into ICT now? That seems high to me, but it's been a while since I've been "live" immediately after an Othercomic appears.

* Is it an indicator that Cuegan's Unglish is not as close to English as depicted? Is it a clue as to how sentences are constructed in Beanish? Why use the word "people" specifically - is that the Cueganite analogue to "tribe" or "town" as in how they refer to the people in the hills? Because "I'm surprised we haven't been seen by anyone yet" would serve the same purpose. Do they not have an idiom like "run into somebody yet"? Are Cuegan used to being trespassers? Because surely the default verb should be something closer to "meet" rather than being the object of some strangers' observations. And ong, and ong, and ong...

Image Wingghish!

Here's a fun article I just read that's only vaguely RELATED, but it is about colors and neural networks and made me wonder what an OTColored made by our bottish friends would look like. It also reminds me quite strongly of the old color survey Blag post.

I was trying to pick my favorite computercolor from the batches on the original neural-network tumblr post (there is a sea of good choices), and while I really like Dondarf, I think that Sane Green has to be the winner because it speaks to me on multiple levels.

I wonder what our own OTC/OTT color names might be. Semencoffeesea, Sunset Gray, Real Castle, Max Fading, Cueball are all OTC colors I could think of. As for OTTish ones, there might be SpURLer Blue, Flashy Gif, Beesnake, Quotetree, and of course the multitude of colors harvested from OTTer avatars (mscha Scarlet, Hamply Beret, Zooman Green, Middle-Sized Wolpy, Gingercat, etc.).

Fun fact: When I programmed my ordered sand to create this I considered an algorithm to derive unique avatar colors to fill empty spaces. I was contemplating some approaches with different pixel weighting, different definitions of "average" colour and so on. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that the results were of not much aesthetical value at all.

Which could be precisely the point - To a human, there is little such value; to a machine, however, the results may be utterly and indescribably profound...

As I read somewhere recently of defence against criticism: "Of course you don't find it profound. It's wasn't made for you." Perhaps this is the case here; made by a machine, for a machine... :?:

The RAZOR agent flipped on the light switch and dragged herself into her apartment. Her meowlpy came running to greet her, meowing loudly; she allowed herself to be held briefly, then sauntered off to stare out the window. Just like a cat, the agent thought, and lowered herself onto the sofa.
Spoiler:
She ached all over and felt bruised and beaten, probably because she was. Departure was always a busy mip for raptor and zombie activity, but she couldn’t remember things ever being this bad. One battle after another after another, with little time to rest or recover in between. At last it seemed to be over, at least for now. There was still the odd skirmish here and there (and some of them were quite odd), but for now she could rest, at least a little bit.

The agent opened her laptop Time Accessor. Her meowlpy, apparently having forgiven her for her long absence, leapt into her lap and curled up, a paw on the laptop’s leopard. It was good to be home, but the agent wasn’t quite home. Not yet. There was somewhere she needed to go first.

She typed “for” into the search bar, and the browser helpfully completed the URL. It was a good sign that the browser had not forgotten. Still, she had the usual fears. What if they’ve all gone? What if the thread has gone dormant? What if they had forgotten her? This was the longest amount of Time she had ever been away, and she wasn’t sure what to expect.

It didn’t take long for her to be reassured. She saw one after another of her dear friends, still there, still posting molpish things. There was even a discussion of the OTC itself. Reading the posts gave her a most awesomeful feeling inside. She read the current NewPage, smiled, and closed her TimeAccessor. No time or energy for ketchup now; that would have to come later. For now, it was just nice to be home.

Today I discovered yet another name these fora live under: besides forums, fora and echochamber, there is also forums3.xkcd.com. (Other numbers don't work; I'm not sure what the 3 signifies.)
BlitzGirl the Next
BlitzGirl the Fast
Knight Temporal
Bringer of the Light

Useless utilities: Newpix clock for Mac OS X, Newpix clock for Ubuntu

Sandgarden - a relaxing experience for Time Waiters

Best wishes to GnomeAnne, iskinner, and january1may! One day you will all join me in the Present!

But are there any other ways of linking to the OTT I'm not aware of?
You need to be aware that fora.xkcd.com, forums.xkcd.com, and forums.xkcd.com all point to the same place. Only forums is officially supported; the others are there in case of mustard.

Jose

And forums3.xkcd.com .

So the page refresh thing going on with 1190, is it related to what's also going on with Garden, and why Garden doesn't work anymore?
