Oxford commas are unambiguously superior, in that they are superior at making sentences unambiguous.

Hi Febrion!

Game updoot:
Spoiler:
We were working our way slowly through a crypt. One of us had been turned into a Lucky (a hybrid leprechaun/panther) and two of the others had switched bodies with each other, when we fell through a hole in the world and landed in a different plane. We were assaulted by golems and a nightmare, and barely managed to fight them off, then went to the tavern and got half the town drunk.
AluisioASG's half drunk Warlock wrote:Okay, let's recap what we know so far: we're stranded in a place with magic that's either almost non-existent or very unevenly distributed, in a continent surrounded by kraken-infested waters, on a planet none of us has ever set foot on before. Our only way out is the wall to our right, which might or might not still work.
Nearby there's a mine of something we know nothing about except that someone out there values it a ton, and that it glows like one of their suns. Said mine is also filled with undead, metal-eaters, skin-wearers and who knows what else.
Oh, and either the ruling class or their fancy golems are rather unfond of me, just as hard as everyone else seems to be trying to win my favor.
Now we have to decide whether to leave and continue our quest, or stop off here and help the miners kill some of the un-undead that are investing their mine.
Wait For It.

I don't quite know how the slang you guys use here gets coined, but might I suggest the use of a capital M (i.e. 0x4D) in place of an Oxford comma as an addition? As in "For lunch I ate a burrito, chipsM and salsa."

It gets coined much the way you just did it, once it's picked up. Which it probably will, because it's treeish, epsilonM and communal. But we need something for the Oxford Dropout... where because "foo and bar" is a thing itself, it's ambiguous if you don't know whether or not the Oxford Comma is in use. For example, "I had fish and chips, ice cream and salsa" screams for an Oxford Comma: "I had fish and chips, ice creamM and salsa". But what if I had ice cream, fish and chips and salsa? We'd need to disambiguate between "ice cream, fishM and chips and salsa" and " ice cream, fish and chipsM and salsa"

All fine if the Oxford Comma is in use. But if you just see: "I had ice cream, fish and chips and salsa", in a context where the Oxford Comma was not in use... yanno, I just realized we could use the Oxford Comma - that's what it's for!

Anyway, you are molpish, steakishM and act like a big tree.

ωIt's all related, of course!

That "M , " on our keyboards is surely some subliminal brainwashing effort instigated by the secret Oxford Comma Society. Occasionally I use a hand for some other purpose, such as reaching over to switch on a lightM and need to realign with the leopard. When I aim for the home row but land a little low, I hesitate, look back at what I just typedM and feel a strange compulsion to make sure there are commas before any conjunctions in the earlier paragraphs.

Yes, ice cream goes well with salsa, at least as well as cancer and snow, and much better than donuts and chain saws.

That's not actually an Oxford comma in that sentence, since it's not a list. Those are just commas offsetting a parenthetical clause. Compare:

"Occasionally I use a hand for some other purpose (such as reaching over to switch on a light) and need to realign with the leopard."

Yes, I was mustarding up my commas (0x4d, Cantabrigian, and otherwise) on purpose. No I wasn't, it was a mistake. Why would I do that? Subliminal suggestion is a powerful thing. Perhaps this will become the latest OTT-sponsored "Did anyone get a copy of the latest BSTA image?" debate.

Go through the gate
Image

B: Yeah, but it's just a gate.
KXA: Doesn't matter, let's go through the gate.
B: What, with the bikes?
KXA: Yes.
B: But why? That's silly.
KXA: We're already doing a silly thing. So going through the gate fits perfectly.
B: Ok.

That is rather silly. You could just go around the gate instead.
