1 minute til we see if it has ended or not. I hope it hasn't, but either way, this was a wonderful experience.

I'd like to see this comic redone with thought bubbles from the characters echoing some of these forum posts.

So, is he waiting (for her?) too?
Is it looping?

The guy was gone for 22 frames. The girl has only been gone 10. I'm going to wait at least that long before I start worrying.

More heavyhearted? Son, were you not here four dozen pages back when somebody speculated that this comic was about a god damn miscarriage?

That's as likely an outcome as any other I've read so far!

Yes, except mouse-overs instead of thought bubbles. (Less obtrusive and more xkcd-ish.)

I agree that this could be way sadder than some people think. Plus people who have undergone radiation have had cancer and undergone treatment have a much harder time getting pregnant. I'm hoping for the best though.

It lives! I'm going to go play Skyrim now. There was a DLC sale on XBL and I finally bought Dawnguard. I'll be back!

Later.

Note that it is, in fact, a new image. It looks a lot like the one from an hour earlier, but the arms are slightly different.

For the record, it's 2 frames away from 100 frames... A nice round number. That said this last one couldn't have taken more than 15 seconds to draw and I'm a huge fan of the idea that this will go on indefinitely.

Now the only thing I need to do is come up with a rationalization for why it is likely...

When I first learned of xkcd, I wasn't aware of the M/W/F schedule, but whenever I noticed a new entry it made me happy. Then I learned of the M/W/F schedule and I had to come to grips with only three new entries a week. But now, over the last two days I've become a downright addict. I need to go through withdrawal, I thought my supplier was about to pull the cord, but no, he just keeps slippin' me more!

I like how it seems that pretty much everyone is still super focussed on this comic and could almost care less about "The Past." Not sure why Randall even released another comic :P

New hypothesis about the reasoning behind this comic: Ensure that the individual comic thread with the most replies is no longer the result of a flame war. There are about 815 replies to go before that becomes true. Although this thread has already by far the largest number of views of any of the comic threads.

More conjecture... What is going to be left in place once this is done? Assuming that it is ever done. It would be easy to leave the server set up to continue serving the multi-day loop of 2 frames per hour video. I at first thought perhaps he would drop in an animated gif as a summary of the work, but there already is one here in the forum. The comic page would be the only place to see the original n-day video in all of its time-stretched glory.

This is quite possibly the first animation in history that is being discussed litterally frame by frame. While it's being broadcasted.
