I think the chart is dividing up the journey era too finely. The fake loop was too short for a period; the mustard period has been removed from Time and therefore never happened.

This is my feeling. I went by the wiki, but it just feels a tad too divided.

The pre-river journey should be one period, in my opinion.

Love it - nice work! Yes, I'm inclined to agree with this picture, based on the fact the two of them do not seem to be changing in size. The camera remains at the same distance from them, but we are all moving either backwards or forwards.

I mentioned before that I felt we had proof of 3d space when the camera seemed to rotate. This kind of certifies it.

I'm with Smithers: I think that the Second Journey, Mustard, and Third Journey Periods can be consolidated.

Into one single Second Journey Period, perhaps.

I reckon the Loop-That-Wasn't should probably be it's own period, or at least the start of a new period - it was quite significant.

*agrees with descor*

I think that False Loop can stay. The appearance of LaPetite was a similar mini-period. But since the Mustard was heretical, it doesn't need to cut up that journeying segment, IMO.

descor wrote:how do people feel about condensing some of [the periods in the One True Geologic Timetable]?
The OTGT must reflect reality. Sometimes there are short periods, and sometimes there are long ones. That's just the way it is. Adjustments to periods in retrospect should not be based on their length but rather, on whether or not they indicate truly distinct divisions. They should also be labeled to what makes them distinct. "First whatever period" and "Second whatever period" seem a bit unenlightening to me. For example, the second journey period might better be called "The Rivers Period".

300 posts huh? I'm not sure what sort of conclusion I ought to draw from that. But I'll certainly go for some cake!

Yeah, that was a good early call. There wasn't much to say at the time because there was no way to tell, but as soon as confirming evidence appeared (when the second riverbank came in view) several waiters picked up on it. That was the very next page.

BytEfLUSh's reference to deltas (via the xkcd link where a delta was mentioned) was even earlier, but more oblique.

I suggest that if it does prove to be a delta, instead of giving pelrigg a title for predicting it, we should cede pelrigg the delta itself.

On the other hand, if the land between the waters instead proves to be a single Manhattan-like island as I've suggested, I get to buy it for some beads and name it Manhattan-Like Island.

I guess what my reaction was more about was there were two or three conversations about deltas (or whatever) going and they weren't inter-mingling.
I'm not trying to start anything and if I Could say it with a humorous tone in my voice I would have, sorry :(

Megan was standing too close to the River1bank, off of which Cueball had just fallen. He grabbed to pull her back, but then realized he was maybe invading her space, and so apologized. But she acknowledged that he was right - standing that close to the edge is foolhardy.

I think it's time to update my earlier post... just in case... :)

The End of Time was predicted 6 times so far...

- "Later" - "Bye" frame
- Age of slow pixel
- "We can't build it much taller" frame
- "bye." and fading
- Brief camera angle change
- Cuegan turning their backs on us

So, are we going to speculate about the ending for the 7th time? :D

Way back many pages ago I asked:
How difficult would it be to add simple colorization to the image? That is, the water is blue, the sand is tan, and the pillars are a brown wood? Could it be scripted?
I am curious as to what is water and what is sand.

COLOR?!?!?! The OTC does not have color! The OTT does, especially in the form of amazing hats and graphs, but colorizing the OTC sound like

As I've said before, I like the idea of an island, too. My mother lives on a riverbank; looking out her living-room window, you see a long narrow island running parallel to the riverbank, part of a chain of islands a good half-mile long.
Don't worry. Feed squirpys.

"Randall Munroe's xkcd webcomic has done some odd things before, but #1190, "Time," is something special. It's a time-lapse movie of two people building a sandcastle that's been updating just once an hour (twice an hour in the beginning) for well over a month (since March 25th), and after over a thousand frames shows no sign of ending; in a few days the number of frames will surpass the total number of xkcd comics. It's been mentioned in The Economist. Some of its readers have called it the One True Comic; others have called it a MMONS (Massively Multiplayer Online Nerd Sniping). It's sparked its own wiki, its own jargon (Timewaiters, newpix, Blitzgirling), and a thread on the xkcd user forum that runs to over 20,000 posts from 1100 distinct posters. Is "Time" a fascinating work of art, a deep sociological experiment—or the longest-running shaggy-dog joke in history? Randall Munroe's not saying."

Sigged!

Good Lord Randall, this feels weird. After treking through such huge parts of the OTT -- in silent, pseudo-Stoic fashion -- I'm now blitzgirling (from NP 502 of 535, not having posted since... whoa, NP 375? How is this possible? Damn that Outside. At least I've read everything since NP 375).

Anyway: an unconscionably belated 'Ray! to BlitzGirl! And not only for your amazing feat of trekery1, but for your wonderful comic, songs, poetry... Welcome back to Helper and HAL9000, randallspeed to Vytron and RobIrr and PhoenixRising and all other trekers/blitzgirlers I've forgotten (too little coma, too much Outside pressure). And too many posts to consider and think up replies to, and so I'll have to content myself for the moment with:
