I think sometime in the near future they're going to find an abandoned stash of LEGO bricks and will then spend the next 100 newpix constructing an elaborate castle out of them, with the occasional discussion of what the bricks should be called...

Because, awwwww, lookit that little guy.

My daughter and I came across these amazing creatures in a book last night, and we had a great time planning a new kids' show called My Little Star-Nosed Mole, featuring adorable blind underground-dwelling mammals called Twilight Sparkles and Fluffy Rainbow who use their 22 fleshy nose-fingers to sniff out and consume cupcakes within a quarter of a second. I hope she slept OK.

You're going to have to work harder than that if you want to out-cute the pink fairy armadillo:

I actually think moles are cute, but the star-nosed mole is a little freaky looking. And that armadillo-don't know what to think about that. Here's another candidate for the molpy, while we're looking for weird things that could be crawling around on the ground:

Thanks ttscp for this thoughtful analysis of the story/plot. I don't think though that Hollywood plot conventions apply. Someone was saying a while ago that the dialogue seemed not quite natural, a bit autogenerated or machine translated. I didn't feel that about the language, but I do get that sense about the plot.

It's definitely like a slowly unfolding puzzle, with enough clues scattered about to keep us guessing, but the overall aim is far from clear. It feels as if the narrative is partly, but not completely, driven by some arbitrary factor - as if the setting and characters were decided in advance, but the way events unfold within that context is determined by rolling a dice (or butterflies altering currents in the upper atmosphere, or...).

Not that I'm saying the whole experience can be reduced to sports commentary, but maybe there is an element of that?

They look to me like Hadeda Ibis (Ibisses? Ibi?) which do root around in grassland for their food. Closely related to the more famous Sacred Ibis, but drabber, smellier and noisy as hell.

I was thinking ibis as well (Just gonna ignore the plural altogether.) Or a crane? Curlew?

Going by the neck shape, I would say an egret. I think ibises ibis ibii have too long of beaks.

I agree with the Ibis identification (though I have never seen any other than in books, the net & TV) and strongly disagree with the egret claim (Seen them a lot)

Interesting. If they are Ibis birds, they should be about 45 cq long according to Wikipedia, so it might be that they are Ibis birds. In that case they're in Africa somewhere? Any other bird about the same size and structure from anywhere else in the world?

Ibises can be found almost worldwide. And I'd agree with the ibis identification, though the bird on the left in this new frame does seem to have a straight beak, a bit more egret-y.

Also, US English and UK English have that singular/plural thing going on:
The Yankees are in first place in the AL East.
Man U is the Premier League champion.

But we'd say New York is in first place. That's sort of a team/players distinction.
I don't know that you have team mascots/nicknames the way we do, to make the comparison.

Ok, atrocious/erroneous/Randallawful example due to "Yankees" instead of NY. (Haha, wrecked my own argument, of course it's "NY is in first place...") How about this one, Brits out there (who are actually asleep and by the time they uncoma this will all be many newpages behind):
Liverpool have just scored a goal, or
Liverpool has just scored a goal

American English is "NY has won the World Series for the 27th time."
and "Bank of America is..." but I think UK English is "NatWest are...."

Pretty standard usage for city/team split is the city is singular, but the team is plural.
So Liverpool is a port city, Liverpool are mid-table in the Premiership.
I'd also expect to hear Manchester United are Champions rather than the singular verb I saw earlier.
Company usage less consistent, I've heard both plural and singular in roughly equal measure.

Also, waiting for dialogue, we simply must have a canonical adjective to describe these creatures. (Edit: and don't say “neat”, Megan, think of something new.)

Looks like pretty normal waterbird flight to me, speaking as an internet expert on waterbird flight. You'll have to wait for the internet experts on OTT canonical adjectives to come by for the rest.

Xips/dips and all that are just weird IMHO. Why would you connect the One True Time Measurement to Outsider units? An outsider "day" is simply 2.4 decanewpix. A couple of "days" is a couple of decanewpix (a couple isn't precise enough to warrant a calculation)
An outsider "week" is just 1.68 hectonewpix, and a couple of "weeks" is a couple of hectonewpix.
An outsider "month" is 0.712 kilonewpix, a couple of "months" is a couple of kilonewpix
An outsider "year" is 8.554 kilonewpix, a couple of "years" is a few dozen kilonewpix
An outsider "Century" is 0.8554 meganewpix

and so forth.

Yeah, that might make the most sense. Let's go metric on them newpixes!
The OTT mustarded the coma schedules of many of us up pretty badly, so “days” and such have no relevance anymore.
