Just caught up since my last post... You know, when mscha first posted the animation and called it a gholpy in the back of my mind I was suspecting a big cat. If it wasn't for the doubt created by that extra movement to the left of the bush I would have definitely called it. Psssh. Ah well. So um. This is an interesting development I guess...

Yes, there have been several posters who think that the raptorcat is benevolent. (Check the last page.)
I tend to disagree. :twisted:

Prediction: Not Cueball's death. It just doesn't seem to me like GLR's style to do something like that. I kind of like him anyway, clueless though he sometimes is. He has been a helpful companion through the journey and before. Just too nihilistic to end here, like this.

Looks a bit like "kitty" is after something in Cueball's pack. Kitty treats?

It certainly seems less and less dangerous. Megan doesn't look too alarmed and if kittymolpy really did intent to kill Cueball - that would've been done a long time ago.

Looks like some sort of stick in the grass (maybe the mysterious disappearing shovel?) that Megan is reaching for, so I think this is still a very tense attack situation. Just in much more slow motion (less time represented per frame, as during the Epic of Pricklymolp, when we saw individual footsteps taking two frames each).

EDIT: Ninja'd by our favorite grumbling curmudgeon.

I think I agree with the Professor Doctor: Cueball will survive. But he may be seriously injured, so that they need help from whoever is higher up the mountain.

On the other hand, I stand by my prediction of four xips ago, that by next Monxip we'll see a change of focus away from the explorations of Cueball and Megan.

BytEfLUSh wrote:It certainly seems less and less dangerous. Megan doesn't look too alarmed and if kittymolpy really did intent to kill Cueball - that would've been done a long time ago.

Actually, it looks to me like Megan is going for a big stick.

I still don't think the raptorcat is friendly. Cueball landed face-first and the raptorcat is on his back. It may be tearing at the bag because it's in the way of Cueball's jugular...

Yep I'm agreeing with the stick/shovel theory. Personally I think it looks like something sharp enough to take some serious hit points off that mountain lion.

It's clearly going for the bag, but what's in there? Berries? Some food unseen? The remains of a previous molpy?

I'm not sure where you got your lyrics from, but the way I learned these verses was:
"What a field day for the heat;
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly sayin', "Hurray for our side"

and

"Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your heart it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid;
Step outta line, the man come,
And take you away."

For what it's worth. ("The heat" and "the man" are slang for cops or other authorities.)

I'm with you on this. At best the raptorcat just wants to make off with Cueball's food (which appears more substantial than Cueball's stick-thin frame), but I certainly don't see anything friendly about it and Megan looks to be casting around for a weapon.

Sorry, I am still not convinced. It would be a major change of style if something violent happened in the OTC.

Megan does look like she's going after an object to scare the kittymolpy away, but we still don't know its intentions. It's not that I don't want the GLR to change the pace, it's just that I have a feeling he won't. I hope I'm wrong. :)

I think that this is a violent attack by the raptorcat. I also think that Cueball will survive it (unfortunately), perhaps due to the brave actions of Megan. Image So a happy(?) ending, but still plenty of raptorishness. :)

Prediction: Meowmolpy (Raptormolpy? Raptorcat?) takes Cueball out of the fight, Megan puts up a vailant fight, but before the kittymolpy strikes there's a fade and we get a blag post describing how he did it.

On the assumption that this is someone's pet and that person is still around, they should be popping up in a few frames or so I should think.

I'm not sure it's a nice cat, just interested in licking Cueball's face or getting at whatever is in his bag, but I'd be very surprised if GLR killed off or seriously injured either one of his two main characters.

The sandcastle is getting trashed as well, but the flag seems to still be flying.

On the "it's all related" front, my wife just came into the room to show me this scary meowmolpy video. The timing of the music is perfect. As Beetlejuice says of The Exorcist, "I've seen it about a hundred and sixty-seven times and it keeps getting funnier!"

Hatred? The raptorcat only has Cueball's best interests in mind. After recovering from his near-death experience, Cueball will have a completely new outlook on life, and realize what it means to live it to the fullest. He would be a changed person, a better man, all because of the admirable actions of the attacking animal.

Cueball charged forward toward the cat and shoved Megan out of the way as the cat sprang forward, therefore it is unlikely that Cueball landed on his stomach, since the cat clearly knocked him straight backward.
