New charts! (I think I'm repeating something somebody [Kieryn, probably] already did, but what the heck, I'm having fun with it.) Again I've included links to PNG versions for the IE8-handicapped.All posting:PNG version
This one shows OTT posting frequency by time of day, comparing the number of posts over a time interval to the average posting rate. The heavy blue line shows posts per hour for all posts; it's clear that the heaviest activity is during daylight hours in North American time zones. There's a peak from 4-5pm RDT (1-2pm BlitzGirl Daylight Time, late evening mscha* time), and a smaller one from 11am-12pm RDT (8-9am BGDT, mid-afternoon mscha time). Posting rate absolutely craters from 4-6am RDT (1-3am BGDT, mid-morning mscha time).
The thin blue line breaks the data into 5-minute intervals, showing how heavily posting is biased toward the first five minutes after the ONG. (If newpixbot gets the ONG, that goes in the third interval of the hour.) More about posting rate over the hour later.
I've already pointed out that the overall post rate drops after March 29, when the ONG rate changed from 30 minutes to an hour, and even more after April 1, when Waiters realized Time wasn't an April Fool gag. So I separated the posting rate for the first week (red line) from April 1 onward (green line). Notice in particular, for that first week, how much higher the posting rate is for from 10pm to 2am, RDT─many waiters expected every midnight to be the end of Time, and wanted to be there for it (then posted their surprise when it didn't happen).* I don't know whether the Netherlands use Daylight Saving Time or not.By weekday or weekend:PNG version
This one shows the blue line for all posts, but then separates weekday (green) from weekend (red) posting (all days are midnight to midnight, RDT). Notice how long it takes us to get moving in the morning on weekends; our posting rate stays well below average until noon, RDT. Presumably we're all
sleeping off a bender
getting yard work done while it's cool. But also notice how late we stay up on the weekends.Me:PNG version
Finally, there's a chart of my own activity (Yay!), plotted against the whole thread, and comparing weekdays to weekends. You can see I'm generally a good boy about getting my coma time during the week, but I stay up waaay
too late on weekends. And on weekdays there's a surge from 7-9am RDT (6-8am my time, CDT), when I generally do a quick ketchup before I go to work.
By the way, I can do graphs like this for other Waiters, but due to privacy concerns I won't post any unless you give me permission.
(If you do give me permission, don't be surprised if I have a comment about your posting habits.)
