Good thing there aren't any coral snakes hereabouts.

What I learned as a kid was:
Red on yella, kill a fella.
Red on black, venom lack.

It had the advantage of rhyming and scanning neatly, so you'd know if you garbled it. Of course, I've never seen either a coral snake or a corn snake, so this has turned out to be one of those useless bits cluttering up my garbage-can memory.

[edit] Woo, Vatican ONGer! I hereby decree that posts on this page should fulfil at least one of these requirements:
I) if you had a pet molpy what would it look like and what would you name it?
II) each word must contain a vowel.

[edit] You can use an existing molpy or imagine a new/extra one, whatever you like.
[edit 2 newpages later] okay both my apparent ongpapacies got unpoped :(

Ideal pet molpy or actual pet molpy? Because my 12-year-old black meowmolpy is staring daggers at me right now...

My ideal pet molpy would be a little bronze fire-molpyzard like from the Dragonriders of Pern series. Or maybe a full size dragomolpy. Might be tough to keep fed, though.

I don't remember what the Pern dragons ate. Besides firerocks or whatever those were.

New charts! (I think I'm repeating something somebody [Kieryn, probably] already did, but what the heck, I'm having fun with it.) Again I've included links to PNG versions for the IE8-handicapped.

All posting:
Spoiler:
Image
PNG version

This one shows OTT posting frequency by time of day, comparing the number of posts over a time interval to the average posting rate. The heavy blue line shows posts per hour for all posts; it's clear that the heaviest activity is during daylight hours in North American time zones. There's a peak from 4-5pm RDT (1-2pm BlitzGirl Daylight Time, late evening mscha* time), and a smaller one from 11am-12pm RDT (8-9am BGDT, mid-afternoon mscha time). Posting rate absolutely craters from 4-6am RDT (1-3am BGDT, mid-morning mscha time).

The thin blue line breaks the data into 5-minute intervals, showing how heavily posting is biased toward the first five minutes after the ONG. (If newpixbot gets the ONG, that goes in the third interval of the hour.) More about posting rate over the hour later.

I've already pointed out that the overall post rate drops after March 29, when the ONG rate changed from 30 minutes to an hour, and even more after April 1, when Waiters realized Time wasn't an April Fool gag. So I separated the posting rate for the first week (red line) from April 1 onward (green line). Notice in particular, for that first week, how much higher the posting rate is for from 10pm to 2am, RDT─many waiters expected every midnight to be the end of Time, and wanted to be there for it (then posted their surprise when it didn't happen).

* I don't know whether the Netherlands use Daylight Saving Time or not.

By weekday or weekend:
Spoiler:
Image
PNG version

This one shows the blue line for all posts, but then separates weekday (green) from weekend (red) posting (all days are midnight to midnight, RDT). Notice how long it takes us to get moving in the morning on weekends; our posting rate stays well below average until noon, RDT. Presumably we're all sleeping off a bender getting yard work done while it's cool. But also notice how late we stay up on the weekends.

Me:
Spoiler:
Image
PNG version

Finally, there's a chart of my own activity (Yay!), plotted against the whole thread, and comparing weekdays to weekends. You can see I'm generally a good boy about getting my coma time during the week, but I stay up waaay too late on weekends. And on weekdays there's a surge from 7-9am RDT (6-8am my time, CDT), when I generally do a quick ketchup before I go to work.

By the way, I can do graphs like this for other Waiters, but due to privacy concerns I won't post any unless you give me permission. (If you do give me permission, don't be surprised if I have a comment about your posting habits.)
Don't worry. Feed squirpys.

Haven't condimented yet, just popping in to drop off the finished product.

Based on Little Bird, Little Bird from Man of La Mancha

Molpy bird, molpy bird,
In th'acacia tree.
Molpy bird, molpy bird,
Do you chirp for me?
Do you bring me word
Of what I lost?
Molpy bird, molpy bird,
I miss it so.
Molpy bird, molpy bird,
I have to know.
Molpy bird, molpy bird.

Upon that bank,
That riverine bank,
We learned the edge
Was undercut -
For there I slipped,
And there it went,
And there my dilgunnerang
was lost to Time.

Molpy bird, molpy bird,
Oh have pity on me.
Bring it back to me now,
'Neath th'acacia tree.
I have waited too long
Without its song -
Molpy bird, molpy bird,
Please fly, please go
Molpy bird, molpy bird,
And bring it home.
Molpy bird, molpy bird.

I have a couple of real Meowlpies, one of which looks alot like my avatar, without the tentacles, or licorice hat. His name is Royce, after a poster in the room he was born in. His mother's name is Howard, because we thought she was a boy at first. I felt like sharing this, for the pope :P

Excellent charts!

One problem though: I'm slightly red-green colourblind and you chose the two "closest" shades of Red and Green that I can distinguish. May I recommend mixing a _touch_ of blue into your green and a _touch_ of yellow into your red in the future?

I'd request a chart, but my post count is so low that it's probably pointless.

ETA: Oooh, 15 posts! That's a record! (for me for post rate in a forum, IIRC)

Pope's proclamation looks for only words containing one or more vowel symbols; however, of possible vowels, how to choose optimally? Moi, fond of roundness, goes for O.

Looking forward to oodles of consecutive ONGs of our protagonists slogging onward toward loftier mountain slopes.

Goodnight Rule110 and your lovely Goodnight Moon ottification!
Also, should mention that I give permission for graphage of my posting habits.

Now, I don't technically have my own molpy, but I do have a family pet wolpy:
BlitzGirlWolpy1.png

He's half German Shepherd and half Yellow Labrador.*
We got him when I was 11, and he's now an old man at 12 years old.
But he still takes his job of monitoring squirpy activity seriously:
BlitzGirlWolpy2.png

*His heritage is a little suspect as we got him from a "Free Puppies" box outside of a supermarket. He is incredibly large, bigger than average size for either of the claimed breeds in his heritage, so we suspect that he probably has some other bloodline mingled in there. Either that, or he's a fine specimen of hybrid vigor.

And a very fine wolpy he is, BlitzGirl! We could use him in the OTT, with those squirpy-monitoring skills...

Why, thank you! He wouldn't have been very helpful in his younger days, when he dashed after every squirpy he saw (he actually started out by stalking each one, but that inevitably turned into a chase when the squirpy noticed the huge white fuzzball creeping up behind it). He was quite adept at "treeing" them. Image But now he just watches them intently. If there's a squirpy in the yard (or in the newpix), he'll be monitoring it!

Speaking of which, I'm sorry I missed the second squirpy! Image Speedy little fellow!
