A bucket, afloat in the sea, which is big (and can do what it wants).
All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full.
Unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

Oooh, such an exciting time to ketchup! That must be a sea, and that's probably a bucket.

It looks like a floating bucket to me.

The bucket from the sandcastles? LaPetite (or someone else) would have to have untied it from the rope.

The bucket from the hut? That would be much more dire, and we could only hope that the dusty glinty (survey-y?) people have an ark or a spaceship ready.

Prediction: LaPetite is in the bucket and wants go to a place with mommies. It turns out Megan is her mommy and Cueball is her daddy. And they lived happily ever after. :)

Huh. This is an interesting newpix to come back to. Kudos to whoever predicted a transition.

ETA:
This reminds me a lot of frame 972, which I just mentioned, but the base level of the semencoffeecancerbabiesonice is much higher:

It takes me too long to post pictures as proof, but comparing frame 930 in preview to this one; the water level (if that's what it is) is lower than the lower cross bars of the scaffolding.
That doesn't mean it hasn't been washed away.

Uh, yeah, it kinda does. (Of course there's no way to tell for sure at this point.)

I wouldn't expect the platform to survive being flooded to nearly 2 cue depth.

And I could be wrong about the rope. I'd expect if the rope were still tied to the bucket it would be tangled in some of the timbers, but if it worked free instead the rope could just be hanging down into the water.

The bucket is the right size to match the one used in the construction of the Sandcastle. It's not exact, the original is a bit smaller when overlaid directly, but it's very close.
The bucket on the right is the first one, tipped to match the angle of the one in the current newpix:

This is true. The original Sea did not ripple...but, it was perfectly flat.
We have since seen rivers and killcricks that ripple, however.

So, options:
1) This is not water, but bumpy land, as usual.
2) This is water, but not the Sea, which is flat.
3) This is water, it is the Sea, which is now rougher than before.

Yeah, good point. But how will we ever find out?

Since I'm on a roll*, here's a new prediction: after looking at the sea for maybe 2 more newpix, we'll blitzfade back to Cuegan. So, the whole purpose of this exercise was to answer Megan's question wondering: “Our poor castle. I wonder what's left of it.”

Prediction*: Next newpic another bucket will float into view; then a few more; then about 20 newpix from now LaPetite will follow, franticly paddling a rowboat (with a bunch of other folks in it on a three hour tour.)

For the record, my first impression was land, not sea. And to me, although the size of the object is correct for The Bucket (or maybe A Bucket) - per BlitzGirl's image - the object just doesn't really look like a bucket to me.

To me the shape evokes that of a bucket, specifically the carrying handle folded down in that way. (I'm thinking of how the one at the attack site looked before Cueball picked it up.) The angle of it in the newpix suggests it's partially buried or submerged, depending on what we're looking at.

But we've only seen one frame. Only Randall knows for sure.

I do think it's the sea, maybe not in the same spot that the beach used to be, but further offshore. That might explain the rippling.
The bucket probably drifted off.

The surface is pretty horizontal, aside from a bit of ripple/wave action:

Yeah, it's sea and waves/ripples.

The only other option I can think of, is that we rotated 180 degrees around the bucket and are looking at it from the other side. But that seems unlikely.

Edit: so, how many bucket frames do y'all think we're gonna get? I say 42.
Edit2: welcome, madock345! This thread isn't that big, it's only about 0.4 page per comic frame. Pretty much every single xkcd comic has a higher ratio. Image

I haven't visited a sea for around 5 heretical years, but doesn't junk always end up on the shore?

OK, so it is the sea. And it has risen nearly 2 cue in height? That's more than a drastic rise, that's more like a tsunami, albeit perhaps a slow one.

The Sea giveth, and the Sea taketh away. The junk might not end up on the same shore it came from.

Good example: don't leave a boat untied on the beach overnight. It might not be there the next dip.
