monkeygentleman wrote:Hello everyone! Long time reader, first time poster, etc. etc.

I've been a fan of xkcd for years, occasionally stopped by explainxkcd for some of the more obscure jokes, read through the excellent what-ifs, and recently reminded of the Time comic by the Wired article (and watching the OTC video from start to finish) I've decided to Blitz through the OTT as well. It's... marvelous. Over the last week I've read 471 pages, sharing in the joy, the grief, the wild mass guessing and the endless tangents spawned by the amazing comic and the wonderful community on the forum. Having followed more than a month of the OTT, I feel like I know you all, like I was there. The religions, the inside jokes, the terrible puns, the poetry, the art, the heroes, oh the heroes!

And in the footsteps of BlitzGirl and those who followed her, I too shall make my pilgrimage from first page to last. And while I know it's late, the comic is finished and I've missed out on contributing to the story as it unfolded, I just wanted to leave my own small mark on the OTT, just to prove that I was here. I'm leaving my own flag on the slopes of Mount Everest. I shall see you all at the top.

Throwing first-post forward. Welcome, Monkeygentleman!

Greetings all! I think I mentioned last wip that I'm without PC access until next Wipsday. Keeping up on mobile has proved exceedingly difficult, and I just haven't felt like checking in the last couple of days. My apologies. I'm still around, so BlitzGirl can put down the rope. I'm not going anywhere. That project I was working on, yeah, kinda need PC access for that. The longer it takes, and the more it gets delayed, the more I think about not bothering to finish it. But I shall, I shall indeed.

The cake is still a lie!

Also, in March 2014 I don't think any of us would be annoyed by a rousing chorus of grapevine grapevine, though it might lead to some tears of nostalgia...

Also, love the song yappo constructive criticism because I can never help myself: To me the pauses were too frequent. I would like to have had the instrumental carry through a little more between verses. Pauses are great for dramatic effect or building tension, but here they sort of broke the flow a bit as they became predictable between verses. The melody was great though, the feel of the piece really added to what BlitzGirl wrote, and I think I felt it more deeply when put to your music (cause that's what music does :) )
I wrote a book exploring the nature of identity and loss of self! And another book about babies!

You might be right there jovialbard. I deliberately didn't use a metronome and timed it more freely for emotional effect, but I must admit I did overdo the pauses a little.

Reporting in from the absolutely wowterful Yosemite area in California. It was a gorgeous day today as we drove East and entered the park. We stopped for a short hike (well, all hikes with my family are short) to gape at some Sequoias (also worthy of the title Wowtree), then got a taste of the beauty of the Valley itself (but, as some of us were quite exhausted from the travel and the hike, we put off the full experience to tomorrow) as we cut across it.
So, we have some new hourly ONGs, eh? Do we have a LuckyWagon or a LuckyWood yet? :P Interested to see where this goes...

I guess other than my recent ottification "The Timewaiter", this must be my first non-humorous recorded OTT song, which was a nice thing to do, getting a chance to do something more soulful, as well as getting a chance to actually write some original music rather than filking something. I went for a soft folk ballad style, kinda Mumford and Sons-ish, with voice, acoustic guitar, piano and accordion. Hope y'all enjoys it :)

Wow - beautiful! Just perfect! Even my daughter stopped eating her book and looked as contemplative as an eleven-month-old can. Funny... I was just humming BlitzGirl, Blitz like the Wind to her at the beach for lunch not a half hour ago (not a sandy beach, so no castles, alas) and then I got a free minute to take a peak at the OTT and here were these four minutes of gentle magic.

The outside has been nuts lately, and I don't know when I'll be able to enjoy any condimentational forays - maybe not for a while, but I hope you don't mind if I dip into the present now and then in the meantime. I miss y'all.

OK. Just stopping in to say "Hi".

Hi.

I am freaking out a bit - interview tomorrow. Have I mentioned I hate job hunting? I really feel for my fellow job searching OTTers. I wish you all best of luck!

To calm my nerves, I am listening to Rest With Me Here and reading A (mostly fictional) Autobiography of My Mind. Has anyone else ever heard of it?

As I have said before, and would like to say often, this place is a kind of sanctuary. Thank you all for the wonderful OTTifications, conversations, OTTerComics, and just the presence of everyone here, that keep my mind off the Outside things that threaten to wear me down.

ED, get well soon! I do hope you're getting your rest and drinking plenty.

Keep the faith all, and OTTify it.

OTTify it...
OTTify it...
OTTify it...
OTTify it...
OTTify it...

Molpy down!

Thank you too! I'm the complete opposite, I can write music, improvise and learn songs by ear, but I can't sight read for chirp! I know music theory and stuff, and I can work out a piece by studying the sheet music for a very long time - but I can't read fluently and it takes me forever to get the hang of it. I learn so much quicker by just listening to the chirpin' thing and working it out myself!

Have to say it here, too. This is such a great song, yappo and Blitzgirl (Rest with Me Here). I've had it playing on repeat for about an hour now. It really captures the greatness of the OTT and the sadness of the OTC ending. Thanks so much for it. (big old fat tears of joy)

You've misunderstood a British idiom. The highest praise a Brit can give is "not bad". When written, one adds "at all" if one wants to compensate for the missing body language (a slight raising of the eyebrows - actually very slight, a mere tensing of the eyebrow muscles).

A friend was living in Japan. A member of his family paid them a visit after a two week train journey, across Europe, Russia, Siberia, through China. Upon arrival, my friend asked "how was the journey?", the Mancunian replied "oh, not bad".

Image 1190x1190 version
from the Scottish Deer Centre. Funny, these don't look like deermolpies...

everIf I had found one you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, as the hamply, leopard and wall are remarkably similar to mine.

The clock on my wall has a molpy pointing in a downard direction, so I suppose it's coma time. But something happened tonightthat I wanted to share since we do have a fair number of Le Mis fans here. I was watching the movie for the 2nd time with my parents ( who were firsttimers). I basically start getting sniffly the second that

Cosette finds Valjean in the convent
she asks me to get her a blanket. I do, and then resume trying to not break down completely bawling. The movie ends and she goes on with her life as though I didn't just experience emotional trauma at the hands of a movie.

Writing to report I'll refreshing my notebook tomorrow (Windows really needs a package manager), so I may not be available at all for most of the day.

But before I do that, I need my mind to be in a functional state. Therefore, molpy down.
Spoiler:
I was looking for "singing dragon". Top results, I dunno which scale is that:

This is what I was looking for (maybe not):

Spoiler:
An OTTer watched the seashore at the end of Time
Gazes at the oldpix as their sequence loops on by
A newly found island, but frames are all the same
The OTC is ended on a raft without a name

Thread without a comic for waiting ones to see
How can we still live on past the end of OTC?
He shows them the way, lighting hope in their hearts
The life and soul of our thread is too strong to depart

This is the ne'er forgotten
Comic that was their whole world
The oldpix cycling
The frames left behind long ago

The sparrowraptor's flying, making him daydream
The time before the end, when there were still newpix unseen
Beanies in their towers, Cuegan in the fields
Time gave him it all, an escape from the outside world

Now waiting's a memory, a ghost in the past
He closes the tab one last time, says farewell to Time's world
Anchor to the water, castles far below
But the thread still carries on, and he smiles as posts still flow

Wowterfull ottification Yappo. Most OTTificated songs I do not have on my MP3 player, but Dark Passion Play is there. My PC is to far away to use the Youtubes comfortably with the headphones I have and it would just be weird to play it aloud
An OTTification is always best appreciated with the music it was written to.

I haven't posted much recently, so here is my opinion on recent events.
Even when I haven't been posting as much, I have still been reading the OTT and the OTC.
After The Understanding the OTC sped up a lot. Some otters disliked this, saying that the OTC was better when we had to just wait for them to build a sandcastle. At the time I agreed with them. The next few hundred newpix after that were much more exciting than the first few thousand. Now we know that that was leading to the end of the comic. About 12 newpix before The Frame That Shall Not Be Mentioned, I went away for a 10-dix sailing trip in the Outside heresy.
Spoiler:
jelly.jpg
A molpy near Fort Clonque, found during my sailing trip.

I found out that Time had ended, but didn't check the OTT until I got back.
I was surprised to see the OTT still going strong. There have been some impressive ottifications, OTColored, luckypix, etc keeping the OTT alive.
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard about the epilogue sequence. In my opinion, Time hasn't truly ended when it is still updating. The OTC is only a ghost of its former self, but it still exists. Even if the frames are not new, the pattern between them is.
I can't see Randall leaving this epilogue sequence then ending Time completely. If he wanted to end Time, he wouldn't have given this epilogue sequence. I can think of two possibilities:
Spoiler:
He is leaving a coded message in the epilogue sequence

Spoiler:
Time hasn't ended. The words "The End" may refer to something else (e.g. Cuegan's escape from the abyss has finally ended). The sea had completely refilled before they arrived and the epilogue sequence shows the boat continuously staying in the same place for months. The Forty have exited the raft from a different 2D slice of the raft that isn't visible. At some point in the future, we will see more new frames. (possibly giving more clues about beanish)

Obviously, I would like the latter possibility to be true. I guess I'll have to
Spoiler:
wait for it.

I have to say I preferred the crazy religious atmosphere around NP 100, but I still enjoy reading the OTT, and will continue to do so.
I leave you with a song:
Spoiler:
To the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean"
A song about the Beanies going to rescue the people in the areas about to be flooded.

Yep - liked it too! :D (I rarely comment on ottifications - I don't know many of the songs and can't be bothered to listen to them)
Titled TheMinimastic as of NP 1610.
