This brain slugpocalypse is the biggest tangent we've had in a long while. It might be off topic, it makes for a very intertaining ketchup. I also love the BeanONGs, and the sheer number of trees in the recent panels.
For decree, here's a double dactyl:
Infectious, jello-ish,

Started collecting data for my social network analysis project...

My dataset includes all posts up until and including this one.

Some factoids:

I failed to parse only 86 posts out of the total of 62320.

BlitzGirl has the post with the most images in the original non-quoted part (423 images):

azule has the post with the most hyperlinks in the original non-quoted part (985 links):

ucim has the post with the most quote-chains (73).

Okay, yeah that may be cheating because they are not real quotes from the OTT.

BlitzGirl I think is the winner for real OTT quotes with 70 quote chains in one post, although I think some of these may be from signatures.

Angelastic has the post with the most non-blank lines in the original non-quoted part (1376 lines). Seems like she did not break the forum, but nice try though!

mscha however, did even better. Though his post has only 691 lines, they are on average much longer, meaning the original post text is almost twice as long as Angelastic's monster post and is the longest post so far on the thread. I much prefer the collection of Haikus though... sorry mscha.

These are just tidbits from my first initial pass over the forum data. I will be generating and processing much more interesting data over the next month or so and will share here when it's available.

ETA:
mscha wrote:(snip a few random rows since message too long)

Looks like mscha did actually hit the forum post length limit... well done there!

Testing out a very quick and dirty algorithm to find poetry / songs.

Criteria:
number of non-blank lines >= 4,
mean non-blank line length < 70
standard deviation of the non-blank line length < 0.3 * the mean and is also < 12

It's missing lots of verse I'm sure, but it seems to be matching very well, with only a few false positives.

Warning: fairly seaish list of posts.

Like I've said before I'm planning to redo the whole site at some point. Once I've finished my course at the start of next year that might become feasible.

Wow. mrob27 ... a recent addition to the community is quite special.

I'm looking at the concept of a kind of quote index, lets call it QI, which is basically number of times you are quoted/number of posts you made.

The idea is that the higher the QI, the more you are quoted compared to how much you post... a kind of crude measure of the popularity of your posts.

You would think it might be a little skewed towards people that joined early... and it is, but only a little.

For posters with more than 30 posts, (there are 246 of them) mrob27 has by far the highest QI of 1.83 (quoted 108 times for 59 posts). The next highest in this set is balthasar_s with an index of 1.55. Oddly enough, his first post is also recent (August 14th). Vyrton is the next in the set (1.52)

Poor TheMinim has the lowest QI for the set of posters with more than 500 posts. Quoted only 296 times for 574 posts giving a QI of about 0.52.

TheMinim wrote:The sea destroyed the castle
So she built a boat.
They kept afloat on the sea
But then, T** E** was wrote.

Nice poem, TheMinim!

Heh, I got Catamaran first... and not by very long. And I'm now on Helo Wololo Wololo, so I'm catching up!
But that's using a lot of glass so I'm only on 752 blocks/run.
But I think I might leave LtCoftB as it is to see how far it goes. Maybe until prices become infinite. Which is fine.

Doctor, the incidence is spreading. In the last week alone at this hospital, the number of cases went from 12 to nearly 180.

Do any of the patients show signs of recovery?

Not beyond the usual false cessation of symptoms. 70 are confined to the Terminal wing for their own safety.

I...I have to ask, Doctor. It's not looking good: will you find a way to eradicate the parasite? Without killing the host?

I can only hope that a solution will become evident soon. This can't be sustained much longer not at this rate of infection.

You'll have to excuse me, nurse, but I need some rest. I haven't slept in days. Inform the others that I'm taking a break, and will rejoin them shortly. Let no one into this room.

Of course, Doctor. Do you need anything?

No...that will be all. Thank you.

In other news: hotdog update:

Code: Select all

## 2.4
- Second Chance was free to use for uncaged Logicats
- Logicat results are now put in the log
- Got rid of redundant non decrementing countdowns on Redunception
- Got rid of redundant Redundant icon on Badges Earned when there's one on Discoveries
- Half the Erosion boost was still being applied to Wave destruction without earning it.

I was gonna add a new feature too but I think I'll get the fixes out first and then work on it.

mrob27 has indeed been a nice addition, but I think you might need to look at post-length along with count. His tend to be long, while The minim's are often quite short. Nothing wrong with either, but a long post does give more opportunities for others to see something to respond to.
