newold otters and newnew otters! Hello!

BlitzGirl wrote:And thanks, Jose. I actually did consider a used laptop, but given how much I use it for work in addition to otting, I figured updating it after five yips of the other was reasonable. 5 yips is a good run for a laptop. I have a 5 yip old myself, and it's unraptorish as the chirping 503s (I replaced it with this one a yip ago). It's my only option when I'm at my parents, such as around OTTmas, but thankfully ketchup and OTTifying are things it is capable of.

Neat OTThercomic, ED - very similar to what I was planning to do, which I may or may not get round to.

ETA: While I don't like to repeat decrees, there are several things I really need to get done todip.
Do something on your todo list. Or, if you don't have one, write one!

I still have my frst laptop - it was one of the first ones in the UK. I still remember going through Heathrow and the security staff calling all his collegues over to see it - it was the first they had seen. It cost my company about £7K.

It is about 12 inches square and 2.5 inches deep. It has a floppy drive and a 20M hard disk, 1M of memory and had a 80 x 12 character display. It ran Windows 3.11 with Word 5 and the lotus123 spread sheet. The batteries which weighed about a pound each lasted 20-30 minutes - I had 5 and a charger.

Starting the quest now :D
And just had to say: while I would be, mainly, blitzing, that doesn't mean I won't be trying to follow the present (at least occasionally). I'll try to do less of that than of blitzing, though :)

(EDIT: and I suppose that was part of my todo list... so kind of fulfilled the papal decree; I'll try to do some more of these on my way)
There are two films that I particularly like.
One of them is a science-fiction dramatic comedy involving a boy who accidentally travelled in time. Extremely popular when it originally came out in 1985, it retains a major cult following to this day.
The other one, of course, is Back to the Future.

Blitz "progress": NPgЮ 8, NPxЩ 28.
I suppose I didn't remember as much as I thought I did... the OTT (if one might call it that) was so much simpler way back then. If people saw what they thought was water, they said it was water, not semen-babies-coffee-whatever.
Megan's been called that a few times. I don't think Cueball had, but I could've missed.
There had been several pretty darn correct predictions (one particular correct-predicting guy is still onlineЪ - hi Envelope Generator!) and a few incorrect ones (mainly involving Randall's wife).
When I'll get up to something worth quoting, I'll quote it. But so far there's even no OTT slangБ yet (then again, I'm still really really early).

Щ NewPix

Ъ well, was online when I loaded that page; might not be so now
Б "Megan" and "Cueball" doesn't count, that's explainxkcd slang which predates OTC
Ц We really should make up a way to tell the two sorts of NP apart - it's been commonly used for either

Finally a post I really wanted to quote!

Ya know, it's easy for us landlubbers to under-appreciate tidal changes.
We parked our stuff on the beach one fine day and went for a walk down the shore. We passed a telephone pole jammed into the sand, marked off in one-foot intervals, with "High Tide" marked on top. It was so high (some 16 feet or so) we just giggled at it and continued on - maybe on some fluke it might get up there, but here? now? nah. Half hour or so later we wander back up the beach. We get to the pole. It's got about 3 feet poking out of the water. I freaked, ran ahead, and discovered some nice lady had - several times - pulled our stuff (esp. wallet & keys) out of the encroaching waters.
I'd be impressed if this scene ended with the couple leaving 'cuz their pleasant shoreline was under water.

You know, I noticed that post way back then in the original reading, and liked it already.
I could never have guessed, however, just how true it turned out to be (as in, truer than they intended).

Blitz progress (actual one this time): NP 17 (np206265 59).
People are speculating about sandcastles, Randall's wife, beaches, Randall's wife, tides, and sandcastles. And Randall's wife (which might or might not be called Megan). They still hadn't come up with any OTT slang yet. Meanwhile, the Book of Aubron had started.
I'll continue *tomorrow - it's pretty darn late right now :-)

206265 as proposed by azule; no idea if there's any *standard way to do it

Molpies should be cuddled and tended, toasting or any other form of cooking is bad for them.

Indeed, there will be no toasting of molpies unless done via fermented grapes (or other suitable beverage of choice).

Stanley sat at his computer and browsed the One True Thread. Unlike his menial job, it was an experience that an average person would consider quite interesting; Stanley, in his infinite capacity for repetitive tasks, found it exhilarating and different from anything he had ever done before. In order to cope, he had to break it down into small, easily manageable chunks, so that his limited brain could handle the sheer brilliance of it all. So he pushed F5. Then he pushed it again. And again. "My my, this is quite exciting!" Stanley thought to himself. "I can see the posts scrolling down my screen, just like the instructions that come in every day for my job!"

And Stanley was happy.

Looking at the stats page, there are a lot of cheaterssv.

I'm contemplating whether to spend four nopix saving the baby (and wolpyling).

svHmm, we have the s&m's, the comfy chair, the punsaw and the scrumptious doughnuts, do we need a serious room for those skipping pages?

Recent archaeological digs outside modern day Cueganville (location of the prehistoric land of "Spain") reveal curious artifacts left behind by an ancient race of nomads, who are believed to have been responsible for the mass exodus from the land of the sea shortly after the dawn of time. The purpose of these relics is as of yet unknown, some suspect they may have been objects of worship for early generations of OTT'rs.

Breaking News: The ambassador from Beannieland has just confirmed that similar relics were unearthed in the vast swamplands that serve as home to the Beannish Union's largest molpylife preserve.

If these artifacts prove to be genuine they may hint at the existence of ancient "Other Civilizations" that predate time itself!
