Welcome to 2014!

Jump in! The water's great! It's been 2014 here for almost 2 hours, and we're giving it rave reviews here in Wellington.

And look what we just passed on Cambridge Terrace (I never noticed this place before)

It was jumping, so, rest assured, even our OTTers we haven't seen in a while can be having a grand old time. :)

Happy New Yip (well, 2/3 of a NoPix ago - I was a little distracted hotdogging and ketchupping) from Australia!

I'm not in the basement, just haven't been checking by as often and haven't been posting because I'm still waiting for someone to decypher the secret message in my 3000th post. It's a bit discouraging how slow you're being.

It is a Dogecoin address - currently the online wallet is down for importing addresses and has been for several dips. So I can't use it as an address to see what happens. (Same goes for your tip to me)

So sorry for the slowness - Couldn't seem to figure it out for the longest time. Hashes aren't really my thing. Last time checking it out though, can't say much thought was put in. Only now has it started to make sense... Never give up, eh? Gotta go coma now, really. (That sounds familiar... Almost dejavu-y. That's what I get for talking myself into refreshing the page "one more time" before coma. Ain't never gonna learn. Sigh.

Steambottle, Time zone trickery threw me off. When OFP9001 posted, it was only (2am on Dec 31st)H my Time, or 22 whole nopix before the new yip. It's still 16 nopix before the new yip, here.

Oh, and I'm happy the basement has a bar, though I'm concerned that may make it even more attractive.

yappobiscuits wrote:Baobabs, whoever's making these mysterONGs is very good. The molpies before, and that "scraaape, crunch" (if it wasn't pulled from an othercomic) look amazingly high quality and Randallish. What if it secretly is GLR?

It was, of course, c&p-ed from np3084 by our mystery author. (At least t1i-0203 through t1i-0221 appear to run in parallel to np3076 through np3094, where many t1i frames use elements from, and the later ones are identical to, the original np.)
But then, after an epilogue tease, a real continuation! Yay!

Wowterful newpixbOTTificator, balthasar_s! I'll check it out in more detail later.

What else? So many wowterful ottifications and original ottart, both of the musical and comical types, very topical (and awefulsome) Acts, hereticalmas presents, an ottsaw puzzle, and so on...

Funny that, throughout hereticalmas, the posting kept up on a pretty high level, only afterwards it dropped quite dramatically...
Anyway, took me long enough to ketch up - just in time to celebrate the heretical yip changing. Happy 2014heretical to those eastoutside, and happy new yipheretical's eve to those westoutside of me.

Happy Heretical Newyip, OTTers! I'm still without regular internet access... Turns out the power cuts m*starded our router somehow. But we've put in another router and I've still got no wifi (still works with an ethernet cable though). The mystery continues... For now, ketchup:

Well mondip's othercomic flew right over my head. As has a lot of recent conversation here, I have no idea what all this gobbledegook is about:

Well, not quite. "Spooky action at a distance" has been shown. You could look at it as "the information that this particle is spin up has been transmitted faster than light", but that information belongs to the system, not to us. No information from the real world has been able to be encoded into the spin of the particle in question because we don't create its spin, we discover it. We check the spin (of paired particles) on one end, and it turns out that the spin is complementary on the other end. Every time. No matter how far away. But wait - there's more! Before checking the spin on the other end, you can run it through a spin-scrambler. This has a certain probability of changing the spin based on its setting. There is one probability curve if the spin was set before detection (i.e. when the paired particles were created), and another probability curve for the case where the particles didn't have a spin until one of them was detected (after which the other instantly acquires the complementary spin). Guess which one turns out to be the case.

It's like having the internet, but no leopards and no screens. Redundakitties all around, but we can't see them or post them.

Jose

Oh, well that's close enough. I give it 20 years until humanity is skyping with its Martian neighbors at speeds comparable to today's broadband. That is, assuming anyone gets to Mars by that point. GLR knows the Martians don't want anything to do with us.

I don't think that's possible. As far as I know, the rules of quantum entanglement make it observation-only (i.e. you can change the spin of one entangled particle, but that doesn't change the other one - instead it breaks the entanglement.)

But there has been plenty of treeish stuff that I DO understand!

Steakish work on the NewpixbOTTifier, balthasar!

Another one for the OTT-if - "What length would the OTT reach if the OTTers kept posting through the whole thread at the same pace as they did during The Fading or T** **d?" And I love all the Star Wars references in this one. The original trilogy was on ITV the past few dips so I've been in a StarWarsy mood! Also, RELATED: "We're going to need a longer snake!". And "Kitty!"

What an e**ish e**ing though, not being able to ride rollercoasters...

NEWYIPONG...

(couldn't think of a decent ONG title, sorry)
There are two films that I particularly like.
One of them is a science-fiction dramatic comedy involving a boy who accidentally travelled in time. Extremely popular when it originally came out in 1985, it retains a major cult following to this day.
The other one, of course, is Back to the Future.

We are dreamers, shapers, singers, and makers. We study the mysteries of laser and circuit, crystal and scanner, holographic demons and invocations of equations. These are the tools we employ, and we know many things.

Oh my molpies, my haiku were used in a Modern Major General OTTification! I vaguely recall knowing that when BlitzGirl posted the first part of it, but it could be a fabricated memory. Anyway, I was delighted to find out/be reminded.

I guess you would relate to this storyvideo version by Wil Wheaton, then.

Sweet Randall in semen, I just noticed that newpixbot's eyes are castles. And there are more verses to You Are My Sunshine?

I think they'll celebrate LaPetit's raft that saved everyone, and will reenact it, with much embellishment, in pantomimes and so on. There may be days of sandcastle building if there is sand where they are. There may be a night where people stay awake and tell stories about Megan the Brave and her leg. There'll be all sorts of myths about the beanies and celebrations of their miraculous panther salve; this could turn into a Thanksgiving-type thing where people binge on medical supplies.

Measuring an entangled photon is a bit like rolling a die. You know that if you get a four, there's a three on the other side of the die. But you don't get to choose which number you roll, so you can't transmit information to the person hiding under the glass table looking at the bottom of the die. You can sort of choose how the die is weighted (by measuring the spin at different angles relative to the angle the photon was measured at previously?), but that doesn't help because you can't tell the person hiding under the table what the weighting was any faster than light. Though it's been four whole mips since I finished reading Quantum Reality, so I might have already 404gotten how it works; I just dismantled a makeshift table (My castleraft wasn't buoyant enough to bring much sand with me from my old home, so I have to wait for furniture to be washed in by the tide/salvaged from the storage locker at the bottom of the sea2) to get at it and check the name of something for a footnote?.

M*stard, I'd better make sure I stay out of the basement now that it has a bar! Bars are usually pretty **dish.

That had to be the scariest newyear's ever! Whole new flavors of mustard! But it's fixed now, which is why we honor Davean with his own dix.

Treeish Ottercomics ergman and musottifcation SBN! And steakish ottcoloration balthasar_s! Has a nice watercolor feel to it.

I enjoyed the Will Wheaton video Angelastic - he no longer looks anything like his Trek persona. My wife and I also play scrabble, I usually beat her but every now and then she gets an end game rush and trounces me. The best was when we were playing with another couple (who were gloating at how far ahead they were) and at the end, she used two one-point letters to garner something like eighty points and clean up. She has an eye for those kinds of plays!

I forgot to mention what a good analogy you made with your dice-on-a-glass-table Angelastic. The kicker is that the dice don't get rolled when the particles are created - but rather much later when they are interacted with. In the interim, it might not even make sense to say the particles actually exist.
