Since mome has poems on the brain sometimes,
Your posts should boast some riverish rhymes.

A wounded deer leaps highest,
I've heard the daffodil
I've heard the flag to-day
I've heard the hunter tell;
'Tis but the ecstasy of death,
And then the brake is almost done,
And sunrise grows so near
sunrise grows so near
That we can touch the despair and
frenzied hope of all the ages.

Computers can write poetry, too. This one was generated by a program written by Ray Kurzweil - I'm not sure if that qualifies him as its author any more than William Blake's could be attributed to his mother.

I'm keught up, btw. They let me on a TimeAccessor between tests. The neurotoxin is gone. Everything is fine here. No need to worry.

.5 newpages daily? That's ever so slow
Whence went the days that the fora would flow
Like the river, so rapid that cueganites feared it?
Or the sea so grandiose that all seems petite near it.
Has there truly been such a large settling of waters?
Did the zanclean flood wash away all the OTTers?
what happened Lord Randall, why are we forsaken?
Have we fallen from grace, or am I mistaken?
Oh, perhaps maybe yes, this is a test
From old GLR and it's just for the best
It's our job to wait for it, it's Just what we do
And increasing the intervals is nothing new!
Just like the sea, with it's tides periodic,
Time ebbs and swells like the language of OTTish
Which repeats itself molpishly, self metaphoricaly
This too shall pass and we'll emerge euphorically!
Singing and drawing and waiting around,
For the sea to wash in all the castles it drowned.

In other news, I'm making a game that involves flooding. It's just a thing for school, but if it ends up any good I can link it.
I made my avatar, Buffygirl hatted it, Yappo smileyed it and ggh taroted it!
I've changed, witnessing this thing so beautiful

Good luck on blitzing, katakissa, username5243, musthavebeenmykarma, iskinner, thunk, GnomeAnne, and quantized ! Keep the signposts coming, we love em in the now!

Now you can see
Why I won't be
Posting on this newpage again
Walking the tree
Watching the keys
Not sure what I'm doing again
Maybe I should
Stop trying to
Write down my story stream
Focus on code
School and exams
Just give 'em a place in my dreams
I have to reclaim
The things I've forfeit
My empire's succumbing to rust
Michael be damned
And all of his friends
Gotta rid of that code all the dust
Bring me that map
And free up that server
The mustard'll chirp as it never been
I'll make it be worth
All the gold I've got
Even though I don't know where to begin

It's not that I never finish things. It's just that

Thank you, ggh
I thought that was weird
Because my newpage rate
Was worse than I feared

Odd error was done

I was thinking just one...

Indeed, should be configurable

Wow, a long time for me with no posting. I still have a big blitzreport to do too. But for now, here's some Image ...

lmjb1964 wrote: (OTT:1937:3) Thanks, mrob, for reminding me what all the letters in SBN's posts were referring to. ...

You're welcome, I guess ('cause I was wrong :P )

Really treeish frame m1213, @ggh!

lmjb1964 wrote: (OTT:1937:20) "Bottomless Mimosa's for Mother's Day Weekend!"
Maybe there's someone named Mimosa who doesn't wear pants, and we're supposed to go to her house Mother's Day Weekend.

I interpreted the apostrophe-s as a contraction of "is", and "for" means "promoting" or "in support of". Thus, the pantless person in question is a supporter of making Mother's Day into a wipend-long phenomenon. The opposite statement would be "Bottomless Mimosa's against Mother's Day Weekend."
Of course in both cases, "Day" and "Weekend" are heretical, but even after translating it to "Mother's Dip Wipend", the "Dip" is still redundant since it's a whole wipend now. But I had no problem with that, imagining that it the proposed wipend would still be called "Mother's Dip" for historical reasons, even though it's now a full wipend.

Oh yeah, just one or two clicks. :P

Yup, I can confirm this.

It's three clicks for me, but about 27 thousand keystrokes. I do everything in perl and emacs :D

BlueCrab wrote: (OTT:1938:27) I'm getting a little worried that the arc-plants aren't arcing. But I haven't gone back and viewed the backstory yet, do they always arc?

I now think the 'arcs' are flutterbees (moths) flying crooked due to their deformed wings, from radiation in the environment similar to the Fukushima moths. My ionizing radiation theory was totally unRELATED, except in the way that all mustard theories are RELATED.

BlitzGirl wrote: (OTT:1938:34) Neat Über-hattage find, balthaprimordial! And steakish Q04B raftcastle!

I have been happy to see Q04B be an inspiration for poetry, stories, comics, etc. but I have been worried by the comments from OTTers who have found it to be evil, e.g. as an unwanted temptation:
lmjb1964 wrote: In other news, I think I'm free. Not free as in destitute, mind you, although thanks the the IRS I am that as well. But free of the molpy on my back — Q04B. ... Many times lately I have wondered whether mrob is the devil, or just an agent of the devil. ...

I added the first couple boosts, and spent a lot of work on testing all the stuff it needs to do to handle these and future boosts, but I've been a bit reluctant to write about it. Perhaps most everyone's played as much as they'd want, so it's okay for me to add more to the game.
When I started playing computer games, they were called Nim and Lunar Lander, and "game" meant "fun". If it's not fun, I would find another hotdog. The good hotdogs were adjustable, with skill level choices and configurable options, world editors, skin toolkits, and often full source code. And no hotdog vendor would dream of not having a complete manual, with all details of the game revealed to anyone who cares to read it. Hotdogging success was a matter of intelligence or skill or experience, not on simply guessing the randomly-chosen answers to secret questions whose existence isn't even known.
I'm starting to think that the problem with this hotdog is that it makes enjoyment too easy. With Q04B as with all my software projects, I add things to make it more enjoyable. But I've been learning that "fun" is pretty much synonymous with "addictive". So I can't make it fun without making it addictive. Worse still, most of the things that make a hotdog addictive are the same things that drive us to be successful in real life.
I've given up on trying to resolve this conflict. I have to make my software enjoyable for me, and that means adding the boosts and other new features.

KayZ wrote: (OTT:1939:29)
azule wrote: ... I was surprised to see a credit for me there. For the font, btw. ... Question, why my version instead of the official .otf? ...

Initially, I wanted to turn all the text into the xkcd font when OTTification was selected. But some words just didn't look right with the default xkcd font. And I remembered that someone somewhere in the OTT already did some things with the kerning. That way I found your font. ...
Another benefit is that .woff is supported by all current browsers, so nothing to worry for me. And it's only appropriate to use OTT resources when OTTifying anything.

Oh, thank you for pointing that out. I did not know anyone had converted xkcd-Regular to WOFF. Now I have added it to mrob.com, so the pages that use it (primarily my replay viewer and AUTOMOME) now work properly in Internet Explorer! :D (IE9 or later, which is about the most I could ever hope for  ) so thanks @azule!

HES wrote: (OTT:1939:39) Ooh, Q04B updates.
Mrob, is there a way to disable the grid? I don't like the way it interacts with the Wait for It boost.

Oh yes, certainly. But I really want to get a few more of these boosts out the door first. I began working on Flutterbee about 2 wips ago. The hardest part of Wait for it. turned out to be a formula that cannot be solved for x without using the Lambert W function. So maybe I overdo it a bit  but I want this hotdog to be reeeaalllly molpish.
In case anyone was wondering, I think transparent tiles would make the Wait for it. boost better, so I've figured out how to do that (as another option in the Flutterbee boost)... and that alone took about 4 hours figuring out how CSS3 animation sequences work, and finding the most elegant way to make merging tiles fade so they are not still visible behind their sum.
There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes, and I've been testing some of the forthcoming boosts for wips.

@azule suggested an idea for ONG-type newpixly blitzing game opportunities; I'll have to think about it... I think an hour is waaaayyy too long to play at a single stretch. What about a mode where you can only play for a fraction of a newpix, starting on the ONG, and you only get a chance to start such a game once per dip? I think SB lets you Blitz for 8 millinewpix. There was (unrelated?) talk early that the hotdog could require Waiting most of the time, as a measure against the addictiveness or just plain Time-wastingH.

mrob27 Image

HHeresy.

Edit: Add WolframAlpha link. Edit2: OTTify a bunch of words and add early videogame details.

So I agree 100%. I'd agree more, if it was physically possible to do so.

Firefox 29 is the kind of thing you get when you look at averages, rather than feedback. Just because something is used often, does not mean I want it on my address bar. Just because something is used less frequently does not mean I don't want it easily available. And just because you say something is customizable, does not make it so. Also, stop cribbing off chrome for your look.

And an add-on should never be necessary to fix your browser just to the functionality it had last week.

So I did.

I just updated to firefox 29 and it's ruined everything. If anymolpy knows a fix for the broken tab switching (i.e. it doesn't) or a quick way to roll back to a version that actually works, it would be appreciated.
Fixed, but I really shouldn't have to install addons to undo "improvements".

Oops! Didn't rewrite this to fit decree. Well, let's fix that:

I do not like new Firefox
I think it's worse than Chicken Pox
It has no good points, not a one
Like they cheated, then called it done.

It lacks the basic use it had
I cannot like it; it's just bad.
The fix they say, is an add on
and then they give a weary yawn

As if they see they chirped it up
after they drank a bourban cup
yet they still claim a simpler case
makes an improved interface

Fools are they, yes fools I say
I hope then don't see light of day
until a better fix they find
or give us a way to rewind

For better was the version past
and I hope they see at last
That form is useless when it lacks
a function that's not full of cracks.

So what you're saying is that we shouldn't beat bushes by looking in the mouth of a high horse being led to the kool-aid even if it's dead before our cart?

Or am I making a jump of faith to reach that conclusion?

mrob27 wrote:I'm starting to think that the problem with this hotdog is that it makes enjoyment too easy.
That's not a bug, that's a feature! I think people "complain" about "addiction" to this hotdog because it's fun to do so - it's a roundabout way of saying "steakish!" Despite the time I put into it, I enjoyed it quite much... and because of the graphics and ottifications involved! Like I said before, I played a few other versions (like the number tiles) and got bored quickly. But not here.

Maybe it's just because I'm an Otter. But it was a thrill to get the next Baobab in a way that getting 512 just doesn't bring.

Anyway, having hit Rosetta, it won't be a goal of mine to reach the next tile (it will take twice as long each time!), but I will probably play it every now and again, and over time, who knows. :)
