"THWAP THE MUSTARD" SOUNDS LIKE A MOLPISH HOTDOG.

Postby ChronosDragon » Wed Nov 12, 2014 6:07 am UTC

Have to agree with SexyTalon here: though it is Time-like, it's not really Time itself. Let's molpy on over to the ??? thread to talk about it.

Why must exciting things happen when I need to molpy down?

Also, senior Sexy Talon. Excuse us if we're a bit loquacious right now. There was a small chance that "???" was a sequel to time for a few minutes.

And I see that I was multi-ninja'd anyway.

And if it was a sequel, conversation about it would still belong in the Time 2: Time Nonlinear This It's thread? Not this one.

A sequel would be very related to Time.
A lot of the conversation would be related to both.
There would be a lot of problems of "where to post this"
It's one of the reasons why I'm afraid of a Time sequel.

Good point. Rules are rules.

When Time 2 comes, we'll have to migrate over to that thread. Or would you rather we still use this the place for all of the not quite on topic discussions and keep the new thread clear of OTTish babbling?

But then an entirely new faction of OTT2ers may develop. Then there'll be two crazed masses of forum dwellers with entirely different dialects of insane ramblings!

Seriously though, all of the options are a bit complicated if there ever really is a Time 2. We'll all just have to do our best to make sure we try to adhere to the rules a bit better next time around while still posting all of the frame cataloging, direct discussion, manips and such in the new thread.

Okay, so I freaked out just a little bit when I saw the latest Othercomic. I agree that the main discussion about it should happen in its Otherthread. I think we should still be able to post choice comments about vague RELATEDness to the OTC here, as we have done with virtually every other comic since Time. Just don't let ??? take over the discussion, as happened with the furious doodling earlier this yip.

Also, SexyTalon is the pagepope, so it's a decree.

SecondTalon wrote:And if it was a sequel, conversation about it would still belong in the Time 2: Time Nonlinear This It's thread? Not this one.

That would be...complicated.

I have a feeling that the mods will pay much closer attention to any potential Time 2 thread, precisely to prevent the circumstances that led to...well, us.

I think standard fora moderation systems break down when the postrate reaches several new pages per hour, sustained for weeks at a time. There'd need to be several mods working together in shifts, just to keep up. And then keeping a coherent message for deciding what's on topic, what to split out into separate threads and what to just delete would be near impossible with the comic itself constantly changing.

We'll have a much better chance the second time around though, since we can help by trying to stick to the rules ourselves and self-moderating as much as we can (without getting in the way of the primary topic, of course).

Yes, we're a cautionary tale. :)

I can totally understand how OTTers would get excited and start posting enhancements and analyses here. Old habits die hard. So, sorry, SecondTalon!

And I don't think there's any point in worrying about how we'd handle a Time 2 thread until there's a Time 2. Maybe it's heretical to say, but I kinda don't think there will be, considering how GLR seemed to get so burnt out with the first one. But maybe if there is, 1190 will just start updating and the question will be moot.

So that's way there are so many people active on the forum at once on my usual very quiet journey into work. I weakly hope that the Other Thread doesn't turn out to be as raptorcattish as this one...

Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.
