ETA Apparently i'm not doONG this right, but I'm not sure why.

Decree: Tell me how I screwed up the ONG. :( Oh wait, I fixed it. Now I have to come up with another decree. Find me a cheaper flight to Germany than $1200. Or figure out how we'll get into Phantasialand.

And hey, Neil's dead again!

Oh, finally ketchuped!
This thread went crazy in the last NPs. The posting rate first accelerated to a speed not seen in mips only to slow down to a molpish meta-analysis with seaishly long posts that were so interesting I had to read almost all of them.

Just one thought on the meta discussion about sustainability: there have been thoughts that one of the reason this thread is so conflict-free or at least conflict-self-dampeningm is because we are quite a small community where we know each other. While this is surely true to some degree, it's still weird. Because in my experience in too riverish communities people ultimately tend to get on each other's nerves exactly because they know each other; if not all the time then at least once in a while. And that's the exact opposite of the OTT - this place is probably getting more and more molpish as Time goes... So this is truly a unique experience and we should be proud of it.

m Yes, I just completely made that term up

I got a delayed present today. It's a book called "Co kdyby?".
Spoiler:
Image
Some guy named "Randall Munroe" wrote it. Do you know him?

Anyway, I was curious how would they solve Randall's handwriting - was a little bit afraid they would replace it with some comic style computer font. But no, it's handwritten too! Either GLR himself is writing all the international editions or someone here did a pretty good job at imitating Randall's manuscript (especially those typical T's with tilted top line overhanging the next letter made me happy  ). The translation seems to be fine too (so far; I have read just first 7 chapters), that was my second worry because many times I've been annoyed by incorrect translations of some sciencey stuff. And not only those really technical terms - for example wrongly translated billions, trillions, etc. (because we use long scale, while English mostly uses short scale) are an evergreen. But I guess since this is a whole book about science and not a movie starring one science guy, they've been paying attention to it.

OTTer confused me for a minute, as one of my online personas is named OtterSmith. Why OTTer? ADDer, someone with ADD (ADHD.) OTT? Aha! The One True Thread, which is not called the One True Needle-Pulled Thing.

I mean, really, this is just too totally unexpected. I should make some kind of gracious speech referencing Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn watching their funeral after they were thought drowned in the river ... no. Just "Thank you".

This thread is truly mind-boggling. You have your own language. You are your own unique, self-contained internet community. If I took 5 minutes per page in blitzing (in order to actually comprehend what was being said, instead of just skimming), I would have to read for close to 7 days, non stop, before I could be caught up, and even then I don't know if I'd fully appreciate or comprehend all the meta-meta-references and events happening, because I didn't experience the Time comic unfolding live.

As the Wiki says:
There are many ways to enjoy Time. The best way is the one that best suits you. This can change. Do not feel you must enjoy Time the way anyone else does if that way does not suit you. Do not feel you must continue enjoying Time the same way if it stops suiting you.
Take your Time. Read and post as few or as much as you like. You are welcome here. :)

According to our polls, this is not the case in the OTT whose participants are much more diverse – in age, in interests, and other things. And nevertheless they are a sustainable community.

That's a miracle – a singularity. I want to understand it, so I can create conditions which further it to happen again⁶. Thus the conference I'm inviting you to.

I think the Brazilian one (see post above) sound even much cooler. :)

To follow up on my previous post:
Now I got to the Mole of Moles chapter. And guess what, there are several translators' footnotesf converting the moles into moths (see january1may's and my post from NP 2139)), for example stating that a mole of moths would fill Earth's surface up to 180 meters (contrary to 80 km as in case of a mole of moles). So the translation was done with great care which is absolutely molpish.

f Yes, the apostrophe is correct, it was actually translated by two people (that's how hard it was, I guess)

Image Seaish ketchup was seaish.

For the first Time in ages, I had an extra free dip todip (in addition to the wipend, which is rarely free anyway). My workload finally appears to be getting somewhat less Zanclean as well.

It's really treeish that so many Old Ones are returning! Looks like Landing flushed quite a few of them out of the basement. And there are lots of Revealers the Recent as well. Hi everymolpy! Image

I've finally started working on AUTOMOME again; the first major work I've done on it since mid-Commandment. (I'm nowhere near a new release yet, so Wait for it.)

So yeah, just dropping by to say hello. Hello!

Well, I was born in Italy, but I suppose I am now more a Brazilian than an Italian. Still, if we are close we can meet in Santa Catarina (should be half-way, right?) and held our own meeting! :D Not to mention that a beach in Brazil on 02/15 should be a good place to hang out, geek as we might be.

But really, how can Porto Alegre-São Paulo be so expansive?

I saw it yesterday at the Porto Alegre book fair, but they were selling it at R$ 60, almost twice the price at Cultura or Amazon. (and, suddenly, I become one of those people complaining about the price of all and everything... :P)

I'm sorry, but I doubt that our group will be seaish enough that we can persuade them to open specifically for us.

What about other activities? We have castles. (And other things.)

Baobabs, that's a much better price! It's like, two times better than what I had! Someone had mentioned Dusseldorf, so I was looking at the airport. Hadn't really, uh, looked at a map to see exactly where I was going (well, allegedly--I'm still a 0.5. Well, maybe a 0.6) and what it was near. What about flying into Cologne or Bonn? How is transportation between Bochum and various airports?

As far as Phantasialand, I wasn't really thinking of getting special permission. I was thinking more of yappo's solutions. But castles are of courses treeish as well.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'll have to ponder that.

And I would totally download a firstpost.

Hey, that book you got looks really interesting. I wonder what it's about?

Doesa all the bftf and chronotranspondering count as time travel? No one is actually travelling.

I once made a film (not translated to English yet). And in part of its plot

I invite my future self and ask him if they have discovered time travel in the future. He didn't want to answer so we still don't know.

Some of the recent automome ONGtexts are hard to believe they've been autogenerated.

If there is Time travel happening, it's only the words that are doing it. So I guess they could be knights temporal. Or words temporal.

And Automome just likes to mess with us.

Manvandemaan--shoot, I was going to say something and now I forgot. I think it was something about firing harpoons at the conference to make up for the other ones that didn't fire. Or something.

It is the most evil code I had seen in years. A long time ago there were some things possible on websites that should never have been. And I am not talking about hacking. You see, once all the browsers accepted the <blink> tag. It made text blink, which also means that it's really hard to read. Whole paragraphs were blinking. Since this was extremely irritating it was removed from the internet. As far as I know all modern browses just ignore it.

That code brings it back.

New post on Beanish: what if Rosetta's Unglish errors can teach us something about our favorite language?

By the way, did someone collect all the hypothesis on what is written in Rosetta's blurred Unglish? I used the transcriptions found in the wiki and my poor eye, but hopefully someone is better at deciphering it than me!
