If you prefer Apple stuff but don't want to fork over too much money, you could try to get a second-hand Macbook. Alternatively, if you don't mind doing a bit of <computery stuff>, you could get a cheap netbook and install Linux on it; you can make that behave like Mac OS with a bit of configuration. Cuegandix is a bit short notice to do that, but at least it means you won't necessarily be left with another device you don't like.

Yep. :) You can also set up a dual boot, where you can choose between Windows and Linux when booting.

Tablets can be a bit tricky; it really depends on the model. Historically, Linux on leopardless devices has been pretty tricky, and most distributions aren't really optimised for that yet. There are indeed some tricks Microsoft tends to employ to prevent people from installing other OSes on mobile devices, and I'm not exactly sure how to get around that. Most netbooks should work fine, but I'd recommend one with a CD drive. AFAIK Chromebooks are a bit tricky to get a proper Linux installation on. The closer to a classic laptop, the better, in terms of molpishness of installation.

I'm going to second the suggestions on organized sands. My lapleopard's screen is now showing all kinds of glitches, including fading changes in and out (the latter, never fully) and, coupled with its current use case (below), makes me want to get a desktop again.

I mostly use my computer to access the OTT and other islands, as well as non-CPU-intensive Python and JavaScript programming. Once every few days I (should) also use it to mine compile Chromium (the browser), which is a quite resource-intensive operation. Having never(^lie) built a timeacessor before, I'm particularly interested in which components I should pay more attention to and SSD suggestions (seems I'm late to that party, no?). Games are not much of a concern.

There are likely other threads I could post this to instead, but 1. this is home and 2. MTA.

Luckily I've got a new reading to pass the time with, just in time (no redundancy intended). By the way, have you been practicing your earthquake drills regularly, ggh?

OMR, Jose, that Dr. Suess bit was perfect. Well, I might go back and fix it, but considering how long it took me to get around to making the changes I just made, it might be a while. :D

And yes, I thought, I should go and look for a post from Jose so I can find the Ecclesiastical Calendar, but I had opened up the post window in the same tab as I had the OTT open, so then I would have had to open up a new tab and find the OTT and find your sig and I was being lazy. I always mean to open the post window in a new tab so I can go back and look at things, but I pretty often forget to do it.

I don't know if all browser have this, but if you right-click on your OTTab, you should find a 'duplicate' option. This will create a copy of the tab, so you can hit the back button and keep the post window open, at the same time 8-)

Huh, that is epsilon. I don't understand what the file numbers are doing. *looks closer*

Ah. The attachment in the original post by Rule110 has a different file number, 36183. Jose, you must have re-uploaded it for your own post back then. This is probably because the original image in Rule110's post was an attachment module so the image didn't survive quoting, and this was back in the Dark Ages of Attachments before the redundancy of attachment modules was widely understood. So you uploaded your sequel manip and then also the original crossing manip for that post, causing the file numbers 36188 and 36189 respectively. That they were both attachments to that post can be confirmed by quoting that post.

The upgrade runs pretty smoothly (or if it doesn't, you can force it to quite easily). Didn't even have to reinstall anything. To be honest, its been out long enough that any serious mustard would have been discovered.

Just make sure to select custom rather than express when installing, else it will set unmolpish privacy settings and reset your file associations to m$ apps.
