I'm considering doing just that. I spend most of the time logged off anyway, and the offsets are known.
(Remembering the difference to RDT, which I often need, is another matter.)

XLVII

Lurchingly Blurchingly
thundered the Blitz-machine
carrying Cleric The
First on his way.

Mediterranean
vistas flew by as he
waited for someone to
open the bay.
Spoiler:
Knocking again as the
Blitz-thing went faster, the
throb in his arm made it
clear he would pay.

Antideciciveness
may have its uses but
Questing is something that's
not done halfway.

Darkness was coming; the
sun dipping lower. The
temperature followed in
similar vein.

Still no response from the
portal in question, so
out on his own it would
seem he'd remain.

Where he was heading was
still to be fathomed, though
one thing was certain, it
won't be in vain.

Panintellectual
thinking was not what he
normally did, but he
must use his brain.

BlitzGirl was missing, and
Kieryn has vanished. The
list of the absent en-
gendered despair.

Circles of summoning
hadn't resulted. A
search of the basement showed
nobody there.

Bucking the wind he con-
sidered his options. He
wished he had something to
help him prepare.

Tiles from the Pope! It was
almost an afterthought.
Now it was time for an
evening of prayer.

Start with the Cuegan.
Insight comes in fits and starts
collapsing to truth.

Short journeys are long.
Time is a great mystery.
Have they forgotten?

Darkness approaches.
But lights on the horizon
hint at something grand.

Giant spires loom.
They reach up towards the heavens.
Soon we will be there.

Send them a picture.
Sandals have many uses.
Can you see me now?

I have two sandals.
I can send two images.
Two can be as one.

Soon comes Rosetta
What can she tell me this time?
I will contemplate.

Dawn comes rapidly
Now the Blitz-thing is slowing.
Journey's at an end.

I look for a sign.
In the distance is a bar.
What will be inside?

Playful sea creatures -
there are seven in number.
Stop and have a drink.

Last frame looks like they were able to stop the leak somehow. So what they were manipulating above the breach was some sort of glue?

Or maybe it wasn't a leak, but just a regular outlet (perhaps of a power plant), and they're shutting it down as a precaution because of the earthquake?
Could be a wheel that they've been turning.
(The water still behaves weird, though.)

And we're above the water again in the hidden frames!

Yes, but not very successful. :( Thus begins Time. ;)

Some observations²:
  • ZoomanSP's visit to t-1 went from 0167 to 0179.
  • In t-1_0201 to 0203 we see the rope elongating due to the weight of the two Beanies entering the cabin of the lift. From that we can calculate their relative weights. (Due to Outside stuff I'm leaving this to the interested reader as an exercise.)
  • Judging from how she :?: entered the cabin, I conclude that Hammockgirl :?: seems to have some acrophobia.
  • In remapt_0174, cutiebot is visible on the right of the building.
  • remapt_0199 to 0203 aren't identical. Ths sun position is changing.
    ENHANCE!
    Spoiler:
    Wait for it.
    (The Outside is calling. Sorry.)
  • remapt_0204 isn't just blue. At the top we can see 1 pixel row of the hose, and some whirls.
  • In remapt_0254 to 0256, something orange is sticking out of the yellow box.

Val! Hi, Val! Image Thanks for the cupcake.

Wow, we have burbulence! At first I thought that rope she was reaching for, which may or may not be strong enough, was just a tie-down for their basket. But it does seem like it was controlling some sort of shut-off valve. Which then broke, so maybe the rope wasn't strong enough. But what is causing that little upburst midstream?

Epilogue Sequence Predictions 2016-2017

Postby hujackus » Tue Oct 27, 2015 12:14 am UTC

I have an update for my epilogue sequence predictions!
lmjb1964 wrote:Hi, hujackus! Nice to see you back, and with some excellent epilogue theorizing! The whole epilogue-sequence things has been a mystery to me, so hopefully someone more useful will comment. I'll just say, Ooh, pretty colors!

ggh wrote:Wow, hujackus - neat prediction! I was hoping to do no better this year than to predict 21 of the hours based on the other 3, and now you've gone and predicted the lot! I'm not getting how you've figured it out yet, but I can't tell if that's because it's over my head or because I'm really really tired. Will look at it more later....

mrob27 wrote:Wow, @hujackus, that's quite steakish!

Thanks guys, I've taken some time to put together an explanation and put it into a new image. The prediction I made on On NP2389 stays the same, but I added text describing the steps I used to make them. It's a process best seen visually so that is why I put it all in an image.

The image is too big, so it's probably cut off. Sorry. Image
I'm still trying to think of the way the date and time are hashed into an epilogue frame. Does anyone know what language the server is likely running when it hands out the image urls?
My best guess would be that a hash function returns an integer after passing in a string containing the truncated date-time. This integer is then truncated mod 5 and then sloshed to reduce repeated frames.
Check out this code to see my latest theory on the hash function.

Code: Select all

int lastFrame = -1;   //Keeps track of last frame
int getEpilogueFrame(){
    long time = getCurrentTime();
    String timeStr = DateFormat.getCombinedDateTime(time);    //Example: timeStr="2015-10-21T02:34:51Z"
    //hash the time string
    int frame = hash(timeStr.substring(0,13));    //Example: frame = hash("2015-10-21T02") = 1284921
    //modulate frame to be 0-4
    frame = frame%5; if(frame<0) frame +=5;

    if(frame==lastFrame){
        //do sloshing
        frame = (frame<3 ? 3 : 2);
    }else{
        lastFrame = frame;
    }
}
int hash(String date){
    int hash = 0;
    //Here's my wild guess at a hashing function
    //Don't hash the entire string, just read two chars at a time and throw away every other pair starting from the end.
    //Example: if date = "yyyy-mm-ddThh" then the hash will look only at "y##y-##-d##hh"
    //This fits the theory so far since the frame number depends only on the year, the ten's place of the day, and both digits of the hour
    for(int i = date.length(); i>0 ;i-=2){
        char c1 = date.charAt(--i);
        char c2 = date.charAt(--i);
        //apply c1 and c2 to the hash somehow
        hash = func(hash,c1,c2);
    }
    return hash;
}

I'm excited for the new year to come and feedback on all this theory stuff.

At some point in the near future, we're going to find out what Beanish for ch*rp is.

Love the finger in the dike mscha! Also, steakish cello animation.

Interesting article. I wonder though; the poetry thing is a way of typing more text to enter a (given) set of tokens, but its primary strength seems to emanate from its length. It would be interesting to know whether the rhyme actually helped (is it easier to remember just the first line of the couplet, or both together?)

I'd normally pronounce it "BI-bi", so don't see an issue.

@HES: Awesomeful penises! (wait - that didn't come out right!)

Just wanted to say you did a wowtreeful job expressing yours! (wait - that's not quite right either.)

Loved the way your penis post moved people around! (that doesn't sound like what I meant either... anyway, you know what I mean!)

Gotta remember that. For me, "30 days hath" works, but for my bots, they sometimes need it a bit more explicitly. Alas, Heretical February is still a mustardmaker.

Welcome back Valarya! Glad you liked the new AotC. (and also mscha and JuneBug) Val, you sneak in and out so fast sometimes I'm not sure you see my own greetings, but they're there. Hai 2u2!

So... what's that going on in t-1_0257? That's an odd burble. (looks back at previous frames) OIC. That's a semencoffeecancerbabiesonicebacon stream that is not following the first commandment!

@hujackus - Wow. Just wow. I am constantly amazed at the baobabishness of the research that goes into all this!

Seriously, hujackus, that's a good eye for patterns you've got there. I would have never thought to look for a perverse reverse transposition like that.

And the new mystery-ongs are getting very exciting. Will the beanies stop the leak, or will they get washed away as the dam rapidly erodes and collapses? And just what is going in with that empty cityscape?

These are exciting times. (Whoever said that was a curse was just short sighted)

Yes, that's about right and it reminds me of another joke:

What did the man say to his tailor when he found a hole in his new sweater? ...

Darn it!!!
