1466: "Phone Checking"

Title Text: 'Where were you when you learned you'd won?' 'I was actually asleep; I woke up when I refreshed the webite [sic] and saw the news.'

Then I woke up again when I saw I'd started trending... And then I woke up again...

I'll bet the prize is constant updates about tips for winning next year's competition.

Riding the bus in a city that provides real-time arrival information is how this behavior gets started and reinforced …

The constant refreshing comes from us checking xkcd until that sic typo is fixed.

My boss does this with his email. He literally hits the Send and Receive button every few minutes... As if the connection weren't refreshing all by itself almost constantly. It drives me nuts.

Well, Outlook Live or whatever hotmail is called now quite often forgets to update itself. Although, even in that state, it will immediately respond and start pestering you in the browser tag if someone sends you a Skype message, like that isn't what the Skype client is for. And no way to stop it.

webite

1. An inhabitant of an web, particularly spider webs.
2. A contraction of "we" and "bite".

Check your back every 3 minutes for more definitions of "webite"; Engliſh is always changine.

As we approach day three of typowatch, will we find that people move on with the debut of the next comic? I plead that we all keep vigil lest we find more typos in our future comics.

People are busy celebrating New Year? Typos in xkcd comics are also usually fixed within a day.

Yep, that's an awesome link. My paraphrasing of it is:
The readability of jumbled spelling is limited to the error correcting we normally do, ie, nearby letter transposition but not when a real word is created from the spelling mistake. Also, letter clusters (like "tt" or "th") can be moved together, bypassing the single letter transposition limit.

I wonder if it also works if the first and last letter are not excluded from the "shuffling".

I think that it will never be fixed. GLR is showing that he's in control, not us. This typo will remain as a reminder of that, like an anti-rainbow.
